Great job filming and editing this together. Quality training goes a long way, Rays training goes further. This will give a lot of people the chance to see some excellent practice.

That was great. Good to see things don't always go to plan as well. Too many videos only show the perfect solution and not the 50 takes where it didn't work. Hats of to Amanda as well. She got back into the water, that shows some guts.

That was fantastic Paul, really enjoyed watching how to put rescue into place. I relate to Amandas concerns re the force of the water, on slippy rocks and pulling a guy out.It worked well with the release and pull. I kayak in lochs mainly and only have ever used my rescue rope once which was a bit of a disaster, although safe result. We were kayaking down a river with a lot of trees and sunken roots at the bank when a friend capsised trying to turn her kayak to come in next to me in slack water. Fortunately she came up okay and I deployed my rope which caught on the overhanging branches. In the end I had to also let go of my end as thought it was a safety risk.Current, branches and risk of capcising too. She held onto her kayak which was stationary until I untangled the rope and draged her to the other side, which was a beach, from my kayak. I only stoped when she shouted she was skinning her knees on the gravely bottom. It was a good lesson as she probably should have stayed where she was and I could have gone across got out of my kayak and pulled her over. The real thing is so much more intense so practice is the key and its not a thing many do. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Mary

Good video for entertainment and awareness. Maybe doing another edit with voice over sharing more details, hazards, lessons learned, etc would be helpful to viewers. Perhaps this video is more of a promo to swiftwater classes you offer, in which you it’s great! I’m most curious about hearing the explanation on the live bait anchor and rigging. Maybe a short edit with that could be useful to ppl?

Two observations, at around the 15 minutes Ray is continually having to duck under a throwing line, you would have thought that he would position himself out of the way and secondly, there appears to be a large amount of rope at the throwers feet. Surely this poses an enormous hazard? I have found your videos immensely helpful as I'm about to do the DEFRA level 2 water awareness course.

awesome video as always Paul, as they say ,practice, practice, practice and then practice more, since we live near the trent and other body's of water I made all 4 of my kids learn to swim from a young age and basic self rescue techniques when they were old enough to understand ,plus of course me and my wife, you never know, keep up the good work, cheers craig

+Craig Twiner Hi Craig, thanks for your comments. Swimming is a survival skill that many take for granted and it's great that you had the sense to make sure your kids could swim well as soon as possible, as well as teaching them additional ways to help themselves out of water. Nice one. Thanks for sharing and I hope it proves a good example for other parents. Cheers, Paul

I can't remember where you were training, but I also did some throw bag/swimming training there, on the other side of that island by the car park. We had paddled down the river that morning in closed kayaks, then did some practice. Even though I only threw 3 bags, the skills learnt came in very handy on a trip to the alps later that year, where as a group we swam about 50 times. It can not be said how useful white water safety is.

Not off the top of my head. I would recommend looking up what Cliff Jacobson recommends. To me, he is the most trustworthy and accessible authority on expedition canoeing based in the USA. He's a great guy too! Apologies for not being able to provide a direct answer but I hope this helps. Warm regards, Paul
