This is a great spooky film! I liked it. I like all the cozy indoor scenes, the sea, carved wooden chairs, the lamps, candles, gorgeous interiors, and, of course, the supernatural terror. A classic to add to one's collection. :) My favourite zombie movie is Jacques Tourneur's I Walked with a Zombie (1943), because the setting for me has this wonderful, disquieting, creepy atmosphere; one is still safe but there is a danger lurking "out there" that we mustn't investigate; something like that; so, it is "scary-fun"; it was well done and is essential viewing. :)

I changed my mind (after reading many other critiques). You're right -- this is pretty good for what it was trying to do, even if the non-Lugosi acting, screenplay, and dialogue leave something to be desired. The atmospherics were pretty hot, too.
