Had this horse in a failed Patent bet before, it was the only section that came in. (For american people reading this, a Patent bet consists of 7 bets with 3 sections with 3 singles, 3 doubles and 1 treble, hence how a $2 Patent would cost $14.)

Whitebeam was much the best in the Diana; she appears to relish the distance; not so for In Italian, who may be better at a mile. Whitebeam had the added task of boxing in Fev Rover, who ran the second best race. According to what Pratt said, he was concerned Fev Rover was going to overtake In Italian, so he did the blocking and then went on to win. When you have 4 of 5 horses trained by the same trainer (Brown), no doubt tag team is in play. Despite the help from the other Brown horses, and running lone on the lead, In Italian was unable to win at the 1 1/8. As a side note, has anybody noticed the underwhelming cards at Saratoga these first days. Don't usually play/follow Saratoga, but one would expect better racing, especially given all the legacy pre-hype. For one, it is difficult to handicap in advance for a dry dirt track or grass track; for example, only to have the race switched to dirt from grass, with the erratic weather. Even if you handicap for mud, then a few races later the dirt track becomes dry. Sunday the third race carded for grass had 6 of 9 horses scratched, leaving 3 to run. Maybe they should have carded more races for the dirt and fewer on the turf. Hiring a weather forecaster would help. Better carding of the races needed. Looking forward to Del Mar.

Irad rode Italian in the middle of the track the entire race. On another note Chad Brown had 4 of 5 runners in the race. & that’s total bs what have horse racing come 2
