Excellent video! I'm a nurse preparing to care for patients receiving this therapy. Thank you for contributing to my learning!

We are so very glad that the video was helpful! It is our pleasure! Your patients are lucky to have someone caring for them that is working hard to learn about all these complex modalities! This is not intended to be an advertisement for another video, but if you guys use IABP there is a fair chance you also may be an ECMO center. We did recently put out a video on an introduction to ECMO concepts linked below only if interested! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYHJZnxmeLWSr6c

This is so far the best explanation of IABP on you tube. If I can only meet you, I will buy you a beer.
@WhiteboardMedicine4 жыл бұрын
Hey we couldn't appreciate those kind words more and if we ever happen to meet than I will take you up on that beer and after that I will buy you the next round! We have been doing a ton of COVID-19 content, but hope to get back to general medical topics after the pandemic passes. Have some videos right now ready for recording on ECMO and LVADs, but just not enough hours in the day. Anyway, thanks for checking out the video and for the kind words!

I wish you can do a video of the waveforms. You are a natural teacher. I am fignally able to understand what seemed confusing before. All because of you. Thank you

Very nicely explained. Thank you very much for simplifying it so well. I have a class in 2 days for IABP and this video helped me prepare for it so well.

Excellent video. One question. When IABP is used, are we using the augmented mean to titrate the pressors?
@anayathegoddess3251 Жыл бұрын
Typically no. Typically we're looking at other hemodynamics such as the patients blood pressure ti titrate medications. Typically increasing the pressor support can cause some vasoconstriction which can possibly defeat the purpose of the balloon pump (increase vasoconstriction, increase in o2 demand and less supply, increase preload and afterload, etc)

I just wanted to ask is the what is the meaning of augment in the iabp setting.
@jimmypradeepmehta2 жыл бұрын
Augment means to assist. We inflate the balloon during diastole and hence augment (assist/increase) pressure in the Aorta (the aortic valve is closed during diastole), in turn helping push the blood into the coronary arteries (the coronary artery ostia are located right after the Aortic valve). This helps increase coronary artery perfusion (myocardial oxygen supply) during diastole.
