I like how the cautious characters like Gamora and Wanda couldn’t kill or let their loved ones be tortured. Then we got Quill. Not composed at all, but he went for the kill when nobody else really could. I think that same aspect of him, the one that shoots without thinking, is exactly what let him do that and screw up his own plan at the end.
@gabrielbelli16073 жыл бұрын
To be honest, nobody talks about it but quill had the courage and maturity to end thanos plan right there and then by shooting gamora, but failed to do the same later, which just proves his humanity I get the same feeling from tlou, sometimes i sympathize with joels decision, sometimes i dont, i sure dont judge it, mess with our emotions and you can see how much it shakes our beliefs, im just not able to say i wouldnt do what quill or joel did 100% of times

I do like what they did with Thanos' purpose in the film.... I don't think the original purpose from the comics would have worked at this point in the MCU run. We hadn't really dealt with Cosmic level material at this point, and in the comics, Thanos wanted to sacrifice part of life in the universe as an offering to Lady Death, because he was infatuated with her, and that was his way of 'courting' her. If the MCU would have gone with the Eternals early on, and we already had a hint of the Cosmic level abstract characters of Death, Fate, Eternity, etc (which are all actual characters in the comics) then maybe Thanos' original intent would have worked. As it stood though, it worked fairly well.

I was so wrecked right from the beginning when Heimdall died (tbh I was more upset to lose him than Loki)- I had a terrible sense that things were going to get way worse and this movie wasn't messing around. I'll never forget the way people reacted during the end. The whole theater was totally silent, except when each person was dusted, there were audible gasps or moans, and a few people actually cried out, "NOOOO!" when a particular hero disappeared. Everyone just sat there numbly after the credits. Nobody got up and left, I think, because they were hoping for a sign in the end-credits scene that this wasn't really happening. I don't know if people realized who it was that Nick Fury was calling on that beeper. Luckily the Russos more than made up for it with the end of Endgame.

I like how this movie is a good example of the difference between a good guy and a bad guy is perspective and/or intent. To Thanos, he’s being merciful and making hard sacrifices and decisions to the betterment of the universe. The Avengers are literally doing the same. To the heads of the Earth governments, the Avengers are no better than Thanos. We defend the Avengers by saying or understanding that sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. (Like being willing for some to die in Sokovia to save millions) and there will always be at least some collateral damage. Thanos is doing what he’s doing for the same reason, the greater good. Personally I think the difference is the Avengers truly mean no harm and will try to achieve their mission with as few collateral damage as possible, including not killing “bad guys” as much as they can. Thanos doesn’t give a crap about all that and is taking the quickest route possible (at a snap of his fingers versus putting in the work).

Watching this with you guys, while eating California and Spicy Tuna rolls, is THE BEST. . . After watching it with my brother, I mean. Haha, definitely rewatching this one. Edit: Hmm 🤔it's super interesting watching this again and now being able to see that sort of slow progression into what could be Major Depressive Disorder in Thor’s character. I would be curious to know how heavily influenced by Adlerian theory the writer(s) for Thor’s storyline were while writing it, because there’s actually a lot of birth order themes going on there as an underlying source of worth . . . Which could have been a large part of what may have thrown Thor (slowly) into his depressed state in Infinity: End Game. He no longer had parents to be a good son to, siblings to be a good brother to, or Heimdal to be a good best friend to. Oh, and he also no longer had his home world nor 50% of earth (his adopted world and the home of his romantic interest) to be a good hero to. Not even reverting slightly to the comfort and familiarity of Stormbreaker and full usage of his power could save everyone, as awesome and epic as that scene was (when he landed onto the battlefield with "Rabbit" and Groot). He could no longer do any of what he was told he was born to do. Gosh, I would grimace to hear Thanos’s name too... But, also makes sense how handing over his birthright and choosing for himself what role he wants to fill could be him being more self-aware, setting boundaries, and moving forward in his character development, and in his mental health. 🤔

Thanos' plan is fundamentally stupid. Life and economics don't work like that, and I'm sure there's SOME species out there that's balanced. Plus all sorts of ecosystems that are in balance; ecosystems tend to have a dynamic equilibrium. But the nice thing... that doesn't matter. What's interesting is that Thanos has a coherent, focused belief system and cause that drives him, forged by trauma. It gives him a believable focus and direction beyond mustache twirling NYAH NYAH EVIL NYAH. We KNOW people and groups like this. They exist now, they have existed all throughout history.

Inifinity War has great acting, great dialogue, excellent special effects, and amazing action sequences. There's a big problem here though... the plot/writing is terrible. At nearly every turn where the Avengers need to make a choice, they nearly always make the wrong choice. It's as if, the writers had their end scene in mind and just had everyone make certain choices that would directly lead to that ending. For example, (1) how are 3 Avengers, Peter, Stark, and Strange going to fight Thanos and all his armies by themselves? They don't know what they're going to face "on his own turf". They do know that he has two stones at this point and is ultra-powerful. Yet the 3 of them can face him? Incredibly stupid. Smart move is to regroup on earth. Strange can make a portal and teleport them there. (2) Why remove/destroy the Mind stone from Vision when you can use it to fight Thanos and his armies. (3) If Gamora has the only knowledge in the universe that Thanos needs re the Soul stone, why go face Thanos? The smart move is to run or go to earth and join the Avengers. Or go anywhere but to meet him. Cause then he will only ever have 3 stones. No Soul, no Mind, no Time stones. (4) Why didn't Loki keep ahold of the tesseract and use it to teleport himself and Thor away. Thor could then tell Heimdall to teleport Hulk to earth. Done. Now Thanos has only two stones. They made only 2 good decisions in the whole movie. Go to Nivadellir to create Stormbreaker and go to Wakanda to defend the earth and protect the stones. Also, why wouldn't Hulk emerge? Reasons. Wouldn't losing to Thanos make Hulk angry?! Last, why destroy half of all life in the universe? If its to help the survivors then only kill intelligent life because the animals and plants did nothing and are regulated by predator-prey ecology (ie. Nature's balance). If you destroy half of all life then you're destroying half the food supply as well. We eat other forms of life. Half the people, half the food; you're left in the exact same place as you started. Terrible logic.
@Omegafire173 жыл бұрын
As far as Thanos, that's the whole point; he believes the logic is sound, but he's also the 'Mad Titan' ^His viewpoint is twisted to begin with, and when people shunned him for his idea, he merely doubled down upon it. Not admit that they're right, or that he's wrong... he simply chose to "do it himself" to validate his beliefs
@fortunatus13 жыл бұрын
@@Omegafire17 This is why I say that its bad writing because its easy to fix the logic to still have him be the Mad Titan and a genocidal maniac. The writers screwed up. It should have been half of all intelligent life (leaving the birds, fish, plants, and other animals alone). This eliminates the source of imbalance without causing new imbalances. I mean think about what killing half the plant-life on earth would mean... It would cause a death spiral which would kill nearly all animal life on the planet. Plants produce the oxygen animals need.
@fortunatus13 жыл бұрын
And BTW, I only listed some of the flaws above. There are more... Star Lord being an idiot. Dr Strange not using the time stone to reverse time. Thor talking smack instead of killing Thanos. I'm sure I'm forgetting some too.
