Your detector was $679.00 inn1983. Billed as the finest detector in the world. What you see on the side is a hip mount.

I bought a White's 6DB back in 1981 and, believe it or not, I still use it today. Like you I have found 1000's of coins with it and I was even featured in the Fall 1982 issue of Treasure Found magazine. Maybe I'll do a video on the 6DB in the near future.

I will go out on a limb here and say that the Whites 6000/DI Series 3 is one of the best metal detectors Whites has ever made. Why? Because it is one of the few detectors that can be double ground balance. You can take it to the beach and ground balance it in all metal mode and then ground balance it again (in wet salt water) with the trash control knob. WHAT? No way you can do this with todays detectors! Yes, it trashes out bottle caps too at the same time. Read up on it.

A truly awesome machine! Even today, an experienced user would keep up with modern machines.

I just bought this machine for $25 at a garage sale, same condition but broken meter lens and missing the set down clip and Batery holder... I remember this machine was top dog in the late eighties when I was a kid with a compass coin hunter, Its so funny I now own my "dream machine" from 1985, LOL Thanks for this~

The white's 6000 DI will pass Monte's Nail Board Test with flying colors. A lot of detectors today can't pass it. I had this detector for about 6 years. I used the hip mount kit and swang it fast to get extra depth.

I believe you have a knob on the 6000 that is labeled tuner, it adjusts your threshold.

You need to adjust the threshold to where you can barely hear it.

With these, bigger coils don't necessarily mean deeper. Even T/Rs and G.E.B.s from the 70s can outmatch newer ones with the 10-12" DD coils in terms of depth even with their stock 6-8" coils. The power capabilities of a T/R and G.E.B. is in it's transmit circuit, not so much in the coil. The bigger coil equals deeper' myth has always been a selling point for manufacturers but it's just that, a myth. And in VLF (motion) detectors, larger coils are harder to pinpoint single targets with and don't necessarily 'see' single targets and will miss a lot if they are coin size and within 12" of the coil. Larger coils that are used on any detector are more for cache or archaeology work. Even the mighty Minelab GPX5000 has a hard time on smaller targets because the coil only 'sees' the big and small individual targets, 28" away. It misses a many much smaller, individual targets near(er) to the coil because the coil is 15" wide. My old 1988 Fisher 1260-X can detect coins down to 8-10" with the little 3" 'gold nugget' coil I use sometimes on it and is awesome at finding small, thin zipper heads and other very thin(and very small) copper items that are 6-7" deep. And this is because of it's transmit power, not the coil.

That is true. I learned that lesson when I was all excited to get the 12" or 300 coil for my first dfx to discover that my 950 eclipse style coil actually hit just a touch deeper. The 300 would just cover a bit more ground. I prefer a smaller coil anyway unless I am at the beach. I had the original grey sword (numbered Excalibur) for that, But used a 10 inch coil and not the original hourshue. But that smaller hourshue coil was no slouch. In some situations better. Those were my first too real detectors from the mid /late 90's but I have played with many detectors and most all that whites has offered after BFO. It is a shame that they have closed since this video was made. When I was kid I would use my grandfathers old D-tex and he had all the coils. Lol

what is the most valuable item you've ever found? Value of a years worth of finds? How deep was the deepest item found? What is the smallest and deepest item ever found? Where is the ideal places to search? I see beach video's having so many rings and jewelry. Is there really that much out there or just a few lucky finds?

Thank you for this video. I don't know much about metal detecting and have always wanted to try. I bought a 6000/Di S2 for $35 (missing battery pack) off a charity website. It looks exactly like the one in this video except where the red box is located. After watching the video I am more excited than ever to try it out once my battery pack comes in. Thank you!

Is it BFO?
@conan6908
@conan6908 6 жыл бұрын
Hello mashersmasher. BFOs had a rise and drop in sound pitch which is absent on this Whites detector here. Whites had phased out it's BFO-type detectors by the time the one you see being used here was produced. Also, the BFOs did not go nearly as deep, for the most part, as the newer technology here did. This detector here was a T/R(Transmit/Receive) or could be switched over to the G.E.B.operating mode which is a modified VLF-type signal. The simple T/Rs are easier to operate as a 'turn-on-and-go' and if the T/R was non-disc., even easier to use and all T/Rs and Induction Balance as well as BFOs make almost perfect pinpointers as they were non-motion meaning, they didn't require motion of the coil to detect metal like the VLFs . The only thing required was to adjust the detector to the ground minerals, using the ground balance knob. And then there was a separate threshold/volume/gain(Whites terminology) knob. All three wordings generally served the same purpose with there sometimes being some variation. Some had both threshold and GB on the same knob and on those, it was only that one knob that 'did it all'. If they didn't have discrimination, they usually were still able to null out(ground out and make silent) most iron. In the 70s, this was the predecessor to the first discrimination.
