Boy, That bring back memories. A couple of friends of mine used to go to old ball parks, rodeo area parking areas and coin hunt. One thing about this metal detector is when you would get a "hit" you could be pin pointed at the "WE" on the head of the detector. With the new ones they have to use a probe to find the pull tab :-). I bet we found enough aluminum pull taps to fill a boat! We found our share of rings, coins and junk. It was exciting just to find a penny. That was something that someone lost and we found. We used screw drivers to dig up the money since the 66-TR could pin point the item. Thanks for this video.

A metal detector guy I met used a screw driver he had a smaller similar detector from the 70s. Used till he died 6. years ago he had a mountain of silver he found but had less as everything was now hunted out in modern. Times and it only went down 4. Or 5 inches. but we went and did ok he finial seen all the deeper stuff I was finding and got him a fisher. 75 I think it was just before he had his finial day on the earth. But. His screw driver digging was amazing to watch barley hurt the ground

I like the older Whites because they will accept the modern batterries as long as one uses the battery boxes. Some used the older 67.5 volt lantern batteries but nowadays, one has to re-wire these kind, just so they can accept a different battery layout and with modern batteries and connections. A (big) job and one that's not easy. Don't even think one could fit enough 9-volts or whatever kind would be needed to add up to 67.5 volts, into these type detectors. Garrett's old ADS Deepseeker(a very deep detector, even by today's standards), used 6 9-volts in tandem, in a slide-in tray. Well, needless to say, one would need to replace the whole bank after pretty much every outing, LOL. BUT, it can airtest detect a dime at 12.5"! Quite stout by even today's standards. Never owned or used the 6000 Di Pro but I hear they were pretty deep too. I have, in my collection, several vintage Whites MDs and one for instance, the Whites 'Apollo' is one of my favorites. SPOT-ON target pinpointing as it was a non-motion T/R but non-disc., "lunchbox" detector, somewhat related to the 66-TR you guys used here. It could, like you guys were hinting at here, null out the iron with the primitive disc.-like nulling circuit. Same length control box. The Apollo had a gold metal flake finish to it though but was basically a 66-TR but with the Apollo brand color and name badge. Not the typical Whites blue.

We used them to hunt on school grounds, old bingo places. One thing I liked about this is when you got a hit it would be right over the White Logo. You did not need for a separate probe. They used a lot of AA batteries. This technology really came a long way in the past 45 years. You don't see many people coin hunting any more.

Diggin Arkansas, it does mate, just don't tell the detector manufacturers .. I had one 35 years ago and it was getting depths (if you knew how to use it) greater than the really good detectors today. I found mountains of great stuff.

I have a 66tr paid 25 bucks for it. Came with 3 coils, small gold coil, medium size coil and a huge coil. Put a new battery box and it works great. Picks up flyshit gold no problem. More sensitive than my new one. Thanks for the explain on how to use it. Haven't been able to find any manuals or how to use it.

Back in the mid 60's I showed a Whites magazine ad to some other teens at school and they all told me it was just fraud. They said, "No machine can find buried coins." I ordered that Whites Coinmaster and could hunt just about anywhere I wanted. Only about 1 person in 100 believed in metal detectors. I had all sorts of people laughing at me until they saw what I was digging. I only wish I would of had today's deep machines back then!

hi there, if you're still around maybe you could point me in the right direction. i have 66-tr, i has a large black disc or pickup it's in good shape, i've never known how to use it, nor set it, maybe this video will help some, i know i used to get a hum with it near the ground, but i can't get that now. it'll detect a signal for aluminum and heavy steel. but not quarters on either metal or mineral.

Gary Rivard , hey don't knock it mate, I had one of these when I was 13 years old and used it for many years in Scotland ...I've found loads of coins and heaps of ancient and wonderful stuff with it at some very surprising depths. My Best find for coins was a 17 century leather coin purse. That thing was over 15 inches deep and in fantastic condition. I still have most of the coins and historic finds I worked for 37 years ago and they bring me great pleasure. We may not have had the easy to use, fool proof detectors that you guys have the luxury to use today ....but we have the certain knowledge that if we hadn't bought these old machines ....then the company that still builds them for you guys wouldn't be there. I wish you the best of luck in the future and loads of fantastic finds.
