Jeff, have a new Illinois 164 acre property. Didn’t have time to get many “morning” set ups in since the time we bought it. Have a big 60 acre field in middle and blinds basically surrounding it. You can’t get in mornings without busting deer. It kills me to not hunt AM opener but think it may be smart to only hunt nights this weekend. Thoughts? Thanks!

Is it possible to have a (mostly) un-pressured bait pile if you only hunt it a couple days during the season? I’ve been packing in 1/2 mile during bad weather days to a little spot. Hopefully it pays off!

Jeff, how about post-opening day hunts in the hills of NW PA public where pressure is high? Later in the week was dead for me last year and it was frustrating. How can I better utilize things like clearcuts as deer magnets, especially during afternoon hunts?

How would you hunt a public wma that is in Northwest Arkansas about 1hr from the Missouri state line.... this public land has 185 food plots This place is unique because it's only open for modern gun permit for 5 days and then it stops... it ended on the 9th. How long should i wait for these pressured deer to go back to normal patterns?

Lets see if i can get redemption here in the thumb area. Shot a nice public land 6er and lost his blood. I waited 3 hours before tracking. Lots of gun hunters busting brush to find their spots for the 15th. I shot this deer on the 12th. He kept getting bumped to the point where hunters wete find my blood trail. I was so bummed i tracked for over 500 yards in circles and the blood just dried up. One last slip in the bloody mud the absolutely 0 blood i could find. Cant afford the dogs either heck i cant afford a new limb thats about to shatter on me sooner than later. Sucks.

Boooooo to gun hunting. Way less of a challenge to kill em with a boom stick. Try stick and string the rush you get from not being able to move at certain moments and trying to get it done so close. You just can't move make noise or make mistakes in general that you can when gun hunting because the deer can be so much further away. I started out gun hunting but once I killed one with a bow shooting one with a gun just didn't feel like a challenge and just didn't interest me at all. I think guns should be banned completely with the advent of crossbows. I actually wanted to advocate for making crossbows only legal during gun season but the more I think about it I just would ban guns completely and just have one continuous bow season. Traditional compound or crossbows. 2nd weekend in September to 2nd weekend in January. But anyways Boooo to guns

While i only bow hunt and agree it is far more technical and skilled. Let ppl gun hunt. The experience is what we are all after. And besides xbows are designed for women and the old. Lol jk

"Traditional Compound" is the funniest thing I've heard about this subject matter. A compound bow user is doing literally nothing that isn't either made significantly easier to do to the point of not having to worry about it or is being done entirely for him by his equipment when compared to traditional archery. How do I know? I've done all three, and did traditional for years. I was also an infantryman and I hunt with rifles and shotguns regularly. In fact, between archery, slinging, and shooting I'd say the only two things I'm not comfortable hunting with are semiautomatic pistols due to ergonomic issues I don't seem to have with revolvers, and thrown weapons like javelins and stoning. It's all archery with bows, compounds, and crossbows, and running around with your Star Trek phaser comparing it to technology that was around a millennium ago and thinking its remotely similar is not up for discussion. And just because there's a similar (yes, only similar) motion in drawing does not mean you're utilizing a traditional archery skil set whatsoever when you use a compound bow. Despite being just as fast and hard hitting (yeah, science is in and it does compound no favors in a "contest" compound-only people are the only ones who remotely care about) as a modern crossbow overall with only negligible functional differences between certain models of bow and crossbow for overall FPS and ft/lbs in kinetic transfer, the compound has several advantages over a crossbow. Which I'll break down in a hot second. There's no reasonable comparison to a rifle either in any way, shape, or form because of pesky things like psychics. The only thing similar is the trigger system function for the end user. An arrow is an arrow. But, you know, I understand why compound guys would be confused because they think they're similar to traditional archers. Makes sense if you add a mountain of ignorance into that recipe. Your equipment is lighter, easier to stalk with, and easier to loose with out of tree stands, saddles, and blinds or just randomly when afield. I can't tell you how many times I wished I had bow that day instead because I can't loose without cracking a limb on something that'll destroy my equipment. And then there's the follow-up potential, which is minimal. But it is never going to happen with a crossbow under any circumstances remotely considered normal. With a compound bow? That's a definite maybe if you're competent. So how about a little respect for archery in general when you're rolling around pretending you're out there roughing it and realize that without the traditional and crossbow people backing the sport your season would get trimmed back by months, traditional bow would have a its own season cutting you out of yours, you'd get kicked out of the woods for rifle and muzzleloader, and crossbow still would edge you out of your season because everyone else is getting theirs? Thankfully you're in the very small minority of compound bow users. Unfortunately they're very vocal. I'm just glad most hunters are decent people who don't whine about their elitism nonstop and try to ban everyone else from enjoyment for their supposed gain which doesn't exist. And a big thank you to every compound guy who isn't an ignorant wipe.
