You have many options for planting a food plot, and most of them are bad. Why? because when it comes to food plots a location can destroy your hunt. Here are some great questions and answers for where to plant a food plot, and especially how to make sure you are avoiding a bad location and getting the most out of a great location.

I can relate to the cleanup. A previous owner used the woods as a trash dump. I haven't been able to get at the biggest pile, but I spent the time between spring thaw and green up picking up trash from old beer bottles, oil cans, to spent shot shells.

It's crazy, isn't it? That was trash site #2 for us. 2 old campers and just plain trash of all kinds...

Looked like a fun and educational experience. Hope to attend next year! Can’t believe that fall food plot planting time is right around the corner already. Thanks for sharing!

So adding UREA nitogen lowers the soil ph, how quickly does it actually lower the soils ph? And would you reccomend adding lime the following season to help increase the soil ph for the next growing season?

It actually doesn't lower pH enough to even matter. One of those things where if it does... it matters so little 👍😊 Which is a good thing! So many other things to worry about...

How many acres would you need to say it's safe to put some food down low in the center of? I've got about 70 acres total but about 35 acres of woods, but the woods sort of looks like a trident, so it's not 35 acres that's square or round. The south side of this 70 acres is a road with a guard rail so that helps with knowing if something is coming from down there. I know it's hard without a picture, but at least knowing if there is a rule of thumb of acreage before you add food? Thanks 😊

Hi Chuck...that is extremely difficult to answer without a better understanding of the land, elevation, neighbors, access, habitat, etc. That's a perfect fit for our Digital Land Management application at www.whitetailstrategy.com....you can sign up there! When we get it out it will help you recognize where not to plant a food plot, or where to plant a food plot. I wish I could help you more but that's a long discussion 😊

@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 oh yes I know, it's tough :). I did sign up a month ago or so, so I've been waiting to see what that has to offer! And that is a perfectly fine answer to my question, so thank you!!!!

Hi Jeff…you reference 50/50 corn multiple times…is this just your rotation? 1/2 corn and 1/2 beans? I utilize your no till process rotating each side of the plot between brassica and greens each year…my son is on my case about wanting corn? So now I’m curious when I hear you talk about the 50/50 corn in your video…thank you for all the content…it is the foundation of my western WI property

Hi Mark l! On our big plots we use 50% corn and 50% greens (never beans). That's 50% corn, 25% brassica and 25% green blend. On our moderate sized plots it's just the green blends and in our small hunting plots it's just our perennial blend. For example in WI we only have greens...50% brassica and 50% greens.

Jeff with all your plots so close together on your land you must second guess what stand to be sitting a lot?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

Hi Craig! They are spread out quite a bit over 3 miles of edge...and I rarely sit on the plots for bow hunting. Very rare...i think 3 times all year last year? In WI we have 9 stands and none are on food...we do have 1 blind for gun and muzzleloader hunting on food. It's crazy tho (and it's like this on any property), but you can have 20 stands and blinds and for any given wind you may have 5-7 stands for a certain wind. Then only a portion of those are good for morning Vs evening. Maybe someone just sat in 1 the day before. Maybe there is zero sign by one. But it's very easy to narrow down 20 stand locations to 2. Then it's more of how your gut feels. I tend to pick the least aggressive one too on private land, and choose the more aggressive sit on public land. I hope that all makes sense!

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks for the reply makes sense. I have a few different plots and seems my luck the bucks are on the cameras as I sit the other plot. But like you said last year I hunted both the plots the least ever with the bow. Both myself and hunting partner killed slammers off them during shotgun season.
