after listening to it again, i'm pretty sure this song is about the acknowledgement of the seemingly absent higher being; a lack of a God ("Who's pulling on the strings?") if you will, dwelling on the reasoning as to 'Start up a machine? Tell it what it needs And send it down a dead-end road?' whiiiich contrasts the omnibenevolent paradigm Gods are foretold to be, why make a machine designed for nothing in that case then? this song is a revelation, not gifted by a God, but by the absence of one. 'And thus, Nihilism was born.'
