Apologies to original uploader but I couldn't find this anywhere when I looked for it again.
If it's still on KZbin I'll gladly remove it from my channel.

Great memories of this place from my childhood came here most Summers during the 1970`s,we always stayed at Feathers Caravan site.Especially loved the Spanish City parts in this video as 1976 was one of the years we were there, just how I remembered it all & seeing the Leisure Pool again was also brilliant as this Pool was way ahead off its time in 1976.Another memory is going to Blyth Market on the Friday before we went home.Went a day trip to Whitley bay in 2010 & was saddened & shocked at the decline of the Town ......so very sad too see

Building a school on the old fairground site was the final nail in the coffin for Whitley Bay as a family resort. Its all about 'culture' and 'retirement' now.

Cheap international flights made sure that all of the old UK seaside resorts would be hit hard. It's never going to go back to what it was, so they've had to adapt.

I remember Whitley Bay like this .(.just) ...but the quality of the film makes it look a hundred years old not 40 ! time passes quickly and the colourful folk especially the annual pilgrmage from Scotland have all long gone and the place is definately worse off for that .

@@zeddeka take a walk around whitley bay center a lot of empty shops and a lot of DHSS which used to be B&B in times gone by The main attraction was Spanish City THe sea front is now the place of Dog Walkers and Cyclists who dont spend a lot of money Its a fantastic location which has been total wasted Caravan park is white van land Look at Scarborough and even south shields both have place like the old spanish city Look at Whitby They all do much better then North Tyneside because we have a council who has no business sense so much could have been done if a Good Business plan had been put in place and it would have cost the tax payer little the money is there to invest but business is not encouraged Thank god they could not change the sea the only thing in WB which looks fantastic

Whitley bay lost its character in the 80s and was derelict by the 90s the sea front looks nice now I guess put the town itself is dead all closed shops and the nightlife is a distant memory in history shame really.

Perhaps a good thing the nightlife has gone - it gave Whitley bay a terrible reputation. It could be quite wild west.

Working on the Ghost Train in the 70s - great money and met some interesting characters! It is great to see all the recent investment, a renaissance is underway!

Grew up in Shields when the gut was full of trawlers and hundreds of guys filleting outside and those crazy three wheeled 2 stroke trucks. That's such a great soundtrack of paul Davidsons midnight rider which takes me right back to a very hot summer of 76. Very good times though we had very little money.

The great mark knopfler wrote about his experiences here on "tunnel of love" from dire straits "making movies" album, local lad too has happy memories from his upbringing and related it marvelously in the song!! Have a listen folks, if you are not familiar with the song, you can hear it on KZbin of course!

I started working there on Good Friday, 1976. Talk about a baptism of fire. Incredibly busy, long days but a great experience. One I'll never forget.
