In addition to all the outstanding vocal elements ( tone, pitch, range, lyrical phrasing, emotive ability etc), Whitney's control is simply mind boggling and frightening. Her ability to hold runs, belts and vibrato etc is indeed legendary and unmatched. Where did that particular attribute came from? Her gospel upbringing under her Mom's watchful eyes at the Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey( I think it is in Newark). This genre of music does place a lot of emphasis on voice control. This is so effortlessly displayed in this song!! Whitney forever!!

Her studio productions were all flawless and made her look and sound like a goddess. She was smart, beautiful, talented, sexy, and rich. And she accomplished all that when she was still very, very young. I loved her the very first time I heard her on the radio back in the day. I loved her even more when I saw her perform on TV. Even in her latter years when her voice was mostly gone and she was easily out of breath on stage, I still loved her. She was sick with heart disease and emphysema, but she was still on stage singing live. I was one of the fans cheering her on even though she wasn't hitting the high notes anymore. She was Whitney, and she had nothing to prove to anyone. We were just so happy to see her on stage again. She's been gone a long time but I still love her and miss her badly. Rachel Q, I could not have said it better! She and that bloody saxophonist do the very same thing to me. Pay a little attention to the strings part too. It's incredible that no one comments on the orchestration of most of her songs. Granted, I am a freak for violin and cello music, through which my spirit can soar to the highest heights, even though, mind you, I'm no expert, but that is one of the parts in music (particularly her music) that takes me to heaven and beyond!!

I have always argued that she could have had one octave, and her voice will still be special, because of her one of a kind tone which is unmistakeable. Also, while some singers may possess some of the above mentions attributes, it would be very difficult to find all of these attributes in a single vocalist.
