I actually think her vocal prime was slightly before the Bodyguard era (more like 1990 I’m Your Baby Tonight/All The Man That I Need era). Her tone lowered slightly on Bodyguard, But this was definitely her “performance” prime. It was the height of her career and some of her very best songs came out 1992-1994.

Bryce agreed. 1990/1991 was her at her A++++ standard. Power, clarity, confidence, emotion, stage performance and everything was at the top of its game. Her voice had a tiny bit of rasp and not as much connection between her registers by 1992. Still, it’s like going from an A++ to an A+ grade

I think it was the Label which wanted her to sustain the high notes but Whitney was more about resonance in her belting which I loved. Sure miss her. Kevin Costner is actually the reason she was in this movie. Don't recall all the details, but the lore was that he prevented production from starting until she was available to star in it. Then she did the soundtrack and it turned out to be one of the most legendary movie soundtracks ever created. Numerous #1 hits. He was one of the biggest stars of the early 90s.
