The soundtrack to The Preacher's Wife is really great! Whitney sings many gospel songs on it with Georgia Mass Choir.

Loved how you identified the late '90s for this style -- I didn't really know like that -- and I loved your vocal description of the build up in songs at that time. Always enjoy your insights. 😍

**(90's) WHITNEY HOUSTON TRIVIA TIME!!!** ...do you believe? ...in you, or, ME!? - this tune was a cover version of a flop tune from the Four Tops in Summer 1983; It was mostly a 'quiet storm' favorite, but, bombed on the charts (for them)...THEIR version remains the best version...Whitney did it for "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack in 1996..... - ...Whitney 'updated' her look here, with a LOT of 'peach' foundation, & longer, orange-y hair....BUT! ...this was around the time she was (slightly) struggling to reach the notes, she once effortlessly could hit...her d--g usage was escalating here...Even Denzel & Penny knew about it, while filming..... I was hearing it, thru inside circles, even back in 1996..... - ...This version is the "Pop" version...there is a much better version on the soundtrack, which was closer to the 4Tops version; The Soundtrack was Whitney's "psuedo-Gospel" Album, giving her a FIRST #1 Gospel Album, early 1997, and has become the BEST selling Gospel Album of all time... over Mahalia...over Aretha...over Shirley.....over The Clark Sisters..... ....AND....here's the Top Ten, when Whitney hit #4 Pop, Feb., 1997..... 10. Mouth - Merrill Bainbridge 9. Foolish Games/ You Were Meant For Me - Jewel 8. I'm Still In Love With You - New Edition 7. No Diggity - Blackstreet 6. Wannabe - Spice Girls 5. Nobody - Keith Sweat feat. Athena Kage (of Kut Klose) 4. **I Believe In You & Me** - Whitney Houston 3. I Believe I Can Fly (from "Space Jam") - R. Kelly 2. Don't Let Go (Love) - En Vogue 1. Un-break My Heart - Toni Braxton (9th week at #1)

I remember that I was in elementary school and got the cd after a holiday party at much my church. I always tell my nieces to think of Beyoncé at the height of her popularity is pretty much what Whitney aquated to during this album. The preachers wife and soul food were black household staples lmao! Looking back on it Whitney was it ( my said that she thought Mariah was too silly and Madonna was too seated? The grunge scene was ruling everywhere). I think it was a good time for Whitney to have family friendly stuff. If she were still alive she would have easily clipped Janet and Madonna. I felt like Janet and Mary J were on two different vibes. Mary is just recently getting a lot of praise. It’s half gospel half pop. This was my favorite song off the cd!

You said it perfectly. It's not her best song or most memorable, although it is cute but you end up liking it simply for Whitney and her vocals. She could sing anything at the time and it sounded great. Not sure if this was a big hit, don't remember it but i was real young then. i remember other 90s Whitney songs though...

The movie is The Preacher’s Wife. It’s a cute movie, but I got SO sick of it. When my oldest son was about 3 (he’s now 26), he wanted to watch it EVERY day for a few months. He had a mad crush on Whitney. I don’t think I’ve watched it since. 😂

ALL her songs on “The Preachers Wife” soundtrack are outstanding! In my opinion this soundtrack was last time Whitney was in full voice. It’s sadly a slow decline after this.

oh wow! interesting!!

@@EmpressReacts Because the movie is about a preacher it’s a heavily gospel influenced album. So imagine the combo of Whitney Houston at full power and gospel songs!! 😃
@missbigkim2 жыл бұрын
@@EmpressReacts Yes starting with her next album “My Love is Your Love” in 1998 which vocally is still an amazing album, but if you’re a true Whitney fan sadly you can begin to hear the effects of her hard partying and drug abuse.

The version from the film is far superior to this surgary synth mix.
