It’s all the things:melisma, head voice, growls, pitch, tone, sustained notes, the belting, the volume control, the vibrato, the modulation..the emotive ability….thats why she is who she is!!

@@odumosuolusegun2781 Yes indeed. The stamina she possessed was unreal. Even up to the early to mid 90’s. Her performance of Porgy/And I Am Telling You/I Have Nothing was a shining example of her stamina….3 HUGE songs, 3 different genres…and she stood there and sang them like it was nothing. Amazingly phenomenal doesn’t even begin to describe her…that’s another reason she is who she is!!

People say this about everyone, but Whitney was the only one consistently better live than in the studio. All her musicality comes out. Its never "will she hit it?" but "how will she surprise us this time?" She lived in the music, always inspired on stage. I loveee what she does with her head voice 5:11 - 5:22

(And some jazz singers I guess, thats all about improvisation and stretching out live, but I was talking about the mainstream divas/pop singers)

Whitney is one of the very few vocalists I know who can sing a whole song with straight notes. She doesnt hide behind runs but can just sing straight from beginning to end .

Greatest singer ever! Hands down! Some singers sing pretty, some sing powerfully, she does both at the same time and made it look easy.

Whitney's voice and techniques are iconic, but her musicianship isn't praised enough. Her choices always seem tasteful and creative regardless of her vocal condition. Because of it, she never sounded like she oversang even in her prime and was able to deliver convincing performances even after losing much of her voice later in her career.

This is some Mozart level of musicality. She’s the most EXPERIMENTAL singer I know. Every rendition of her songs are different and always so well done. She got SO MUCH vocal and musical talent that she could do literally ANYTHING with a song.
