Also, I have noticed with Whitney Houston in some songs when she holds the mic in her right hand that seems to be her "beat hand" I guess; she will be tapping her fingers as if with the beat of the song. Whitney is and forever will be the greatest vocalist of all time. This version is great but for me the best version (again I said FOR ME) is when she sang it in Wembley Stadium. She was just on fire that night. To answer your question it’s not a Whitneyism lol, it’s her controlling the band and making them follow her lead. A lot of people don’t know how to have the band follow them but Whitney had total control of not just her instrument but she just controlled everything on her stage. The woman had impeccable stage presence as well.
