Back in days lip sync was mandatory. In some shows there wasn’t enough space and material to host the band and make them play live. 🤷‍♀️

It’s also a marketing strategy. Clive knew Whitney was not a karaoke-style singer. She is a singer’s singer, how she sang a song was different day to day. Arista wanted the record buying public to hear the music that they heard on radio/mtv & see the person who recorded that music they heard. Marketing wise for a young, new talent, it’s a pr no-brainer.
