The Squeeze

Күн бұрын

This week’s guest has taken social media by storm and has been the topic of conversation across the country…for the very first time, Whitney Leavitt, MomTok star and “villain” of Hulu's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, is sharing her story. To begin, Whitney opens up about what life has looked like since the show has aired and tells us how it felt to become the "villain" within the storyline. Whitney reflects on various moments throughout the show, such as the fruity pebbles incident with Demi and her reasoning for not attending Mayci’s event, and explains which actions she regrets and takes accountability for. She gives us a candid look into her relationships with the other girls on the show, explains what led her to leave the MomTok group chat, and opens up about the real reason why she took a step back from her friendships. Whitney also dives into her past marital struggles with her husband, Connor, and explains what it took to work through their challenges and rebuild trust in their relationship. She tells us about the Mormon community’s response to the show and gives us a peek into Mormonism and their stance on coffee, alcohol, partying, and more. Finally, Whitney discusses her viral RSV video, her potential return for a Season 2, and whether she plans to stay part of MomTok.

As someone who was in the Mormon church for 22+ years I can say Whitney is the exact type of Mormon girl who can dish it but can’t take it and is quick to get on the high horse and pretend to be sweet and kind when she’s actually a master manipulator… I can only imagine the convos between her and Connor when the cameras are off

I think the reason Taylor said ya know 15,000,000 times is because she clearly does not agree with whitney at all and has a hard time trying to gently call her out and trying to gracefully take her to task. I walked away from this feeling a bit different about Whitney. I appreciate her vulnerability and honesty! I appreciate y’all for having her on! I definitely agree with her about miscommunication and the impact it has on our relationships. I also appreciated the reminder that we never know what other people are going through and that sometimes they can’t be there for us because they’re already going through a lot! I think it definitely humanized Whitney a lot. I worry sometimes about people made out to be villains in reality tv. I worry that all of the bullying could drive someone to even take their own life! I feel bad for Whitney too that what she said after Ketamine was shared. I really hope she finds peace and healing! I hope she has a healthy delivery when the time is right. I got the impression that she reached out to them to schedule the interview, and they were allowing her to guide the convo more. I think they're used to conversation flowing more naturally, whereas Whitney was expecting a more formal/traditional interview with question/answer structure. I do agree it made them seem less prepared, though. If they would have had a more extensive list of questions, it would have felt different. I think it was a learning experience! They can still want more actual conversation, but be prepared with "backup" questions just in case that's not how it goes.

I think the Taylors have strong opinions on this and were nervous to be giving her a platform, while also understanding the nuance of reality tv villains being real people and not 2D characters. Also, she's SO pregnant and there's an inherent delicacy to trying to avoid unnecessary upset, out of respect-- even if you don't like her. My speech and debate coaches in high school and college used to ring a bell/buzzer every single time someone used a "vocal pause" (um, like, you know, etc) and it would blow your MIND how hard it is to train yourself to just allow an empty pause instead. When on a mic, especially, it's even harder to allow silence while you gather your thoughts because you feel the pressure to speak. It's even HARDER when you're trying to be delicate-- so you know what you WANT to say, but you pause to reword it in your head. You'll see that in a passionate debate, or a convo that flows more naturally, the participants won't have a lot of the same vocal pauses because they aren't taking same time to weigh the words out before saying them. I didn't find it hard to watch, like a lot of these comments are claiming 😂

I’m glad she had a safe space to talk and I really wanted to have a change of heart but it’s not happening. Let’s go: 1- she’s blaming the edit with the first episode thing. 2- she can talk about everyone but people can’t talk about her. 3- she was MAD that DEMI told everyone that W CONFIRMED THAT SHE POSTED THE HOSPITAL VIDEO FOR VIEWS. And she played the victim? She literally said many personal things about Demi as well. 4- she says she didn’t expect they to reach out when she settled those boundaries…but she DID. There is a conversation of her and her husband where she says that they didn’t invited her and he even says “ but you left the group right?” And she also said the same thing to Jess while they were at Laylas party!! 5- how she didn’t think that video of the screenshot of Macy was ok? 6- Taylor was a big person and really showed that she evolved reaching out to W. I hope W can learn from this but I don’t feel it’s genuine from her side. She knows if she be nice with Taylor it will work for her. Anyway, I still think her lack of awareness is crazy. She justify everything she did wrong. I really hope she change and be a better person/friend because it’s exhausting to have a friend like this.

My question to people is not why you think Whitney is bad, but that all the others are good? All the people terrorising her are clearly doing it defence of the innocent however the “innocent” are clearly not great people. They talk behind each others backs constantly: Demi calling Taylor white trash, Layla half laughing and saying she thinks Jen will “bring down the mood” if she comes to dinner after getting into a fight with her abusive husband, Mikayla using Whitney’s cyberbullying for clout by posting atleast one video a day attacking her, all the fights between each other mentioned on podcasts that didn’t make the cut, them all circling talking about how AWFUL and EVIL whitney was for simply unfollowing them after a explosive weekend. It’s so clear that Whitney got villian status with the group simply for not engaging with them anymore, I don’t think anything she did or said was any worse or any better than what others said or did. If there’s one thing a toxic friend group needs to survive, it’s a common enemy. And you can tell Whitney was it for them because they thrive off talking about her. All this is to say is that cyber bullying a women for being at MOST slightly worse than her also mean friends does not make you a good person, it makes you worse.

50 mins in and the only situation she has addressed head on with a real explanation is the fruity pebbles. Everything else is SO vague. I was actually looking forward to hearing her side and why some of these moments seem so out of pocket.. she gave no real answers. She did say no one made her do anything and all her actions were her own. So blaming the editing goes out the window.. Even though Tayler tried to almost do that for her? She talked about the first episode a lot, without talking about her getting mad that Taylor shared her hardships at that time too (because when friends talk, usually one shares, and then another does). She also makes it as if the fans just made up the tension between her and Taylor and none of it was ever real. But still owns all her actions and stepping away and not going to Taylor’s shower, etc.

I’m sorry but the hosts were weird specially the girl host, in this specific podcast she gave off rude vibes. She acted to me like she didn’t like Whitney with her face expressions and body language and even the way she would speak. I’m not a fan of Whitney either but I would have been super annoyed if I was Whitney. To be honest the wife gave hater vibes even if she didn’t mean too. Work on your manners and welcoming on any guest please.

The wife was rude. Already had her mind made up about Whitney, based on a reality TV edit...... Whitney is no worse then the rest of them. It's ok to remove yourself from a situation if you're struggling with your mental health btw. Sending love Whitney ❤

Whitney is a problem. A big one. She triggers me. Everything is your fault not hers. Her actions with Taylor!? Appalling when Taylor’s been nothing but real and honest and owned up! & I feel sad for Taylor bc she says Whitney is her friend but Whitney has said over and over “I don’t want to be friends”. Taylor’s heart is good even with so much heavy stuff on her. While Whitney is just like “look at my baby bump” and we should all bow down to her. She reminds me of certain friends I’ve had and I absolutely feel gaslit. “I’m like” “you know?”

I liked the show. I liked Whitney. I didn't like how everyone talked shit but only Whitney was made out a villain. She's human, pregnant, and on a heavily edited reality show. Bffr she's a person, everyone bullying her, calling her husband gay and everything else makes you no fkn better than the next villain. Pot calling the kettle black.

Normally a huge fan of the podcast but I mean this in the most respectful, constructive way possible…this was far from your best interview. The amount of “um” “ya know” “ya” throughout was very distracting and the whole thing felt awkward. Not hating at all just my honest experience watching/listening. I was happy to hear Whitney share her story though, it’s nice to see a side of her that we didn’t see on the show.

While I appreciate yall giving her this platform to speak, I do think she needed that; it is a little bit off putting that in most of the interviews with the other girls they don’t speak for her or about her except to answer direct questions. But it seems like she’s throwing everyone else under the bus left and right in an attempt to save face. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt but this feels like a last ditch effort for damage control. I just hope all of them are able to find peace, move forward, and focus on themselves. Thank yall for this though.

Whitney thought Taylor was going to be the villain that’s why she was so horrible to her. Even if edited she said straight to Taylor’s face she didn’t like her and she didn’t have any interest on working on it! Now she has changed her story because she’s been seen as the villain. I wouldn’t wish any harm on her and I think people who do that are horrible but let’s not believe someone who’s taking no accountability whatsoever. She is not a victim she’s a bully wearing a victims cloak.

I think why people adore Taylor is because even in her mistakes she can admit fault. She owns her mistakes and poor decisions. I went in thinking it would be Taylor was the villain. With Whitney, nothing can be her fault. Even if this video she spoke about clearing her name. Some of her explanations make zero sense. People do not trust someone who is always the victim. I would have gained a lot of respect for her if she had been straight up “Yeah I left the group chat because I wanted to see who would check up on me when I was struggling” or “Yeah, I shared the fruit pebble story on national tv and it was a bad choice I regret.” You can claim bad edit all you want, but they can only edit from what she said.”

@@34fashiondivaAs a member, I wouldn’t have responded to that question the same way Whitney did (no shade). It largely is because it can become an addiction, just like drugs and alcohol. The church since receiving that early revelation hasn’t continued updating it to include soda and such explicitly but we are definitely told that we should make healthy decisions for our bodies. Church leaders probably wouldn’t say it’s the best idea to be drinking 44oz of sodas every day but that was not included in the early revelation (probably bc sodas weren’t a thing lol). but yeah basically the principle is to take care of our bodies and avoid addictive substances, obviously not all members do that just like any other religion but that is the guideline.
