I hate to hear that mumbles is not getting any better. Plus I hate she’s goin through this when it’s also cold and snowing. I know the sun light would have helped on the healing process. I think the bright light and it all being snowed is being tough on her eyes. I pray she gets better and hope she starts eating and not loose to much energy she can’t bounce back.

I subscribed when I saw how well he looks after mumbles, we all are praying for her recovery. He is working hard and no vets in that area, I feel for him, if he was in U.K. I would go and pick mumbles to look after her till she recovers, it’s 24/7 job and poor guy has got so much on his hands, so many animals and a farm. He is doing great, trying his best.

All Turkeys are tough customers. Keeping them separated is the only answer. Poor Piper is just being normal. Try her with the new turkeys on a day you are home and watch. Poor Mumbles was on the losing end of a dominance fight. You might need to find her a new home. Sad all the way around. Piper seems to have bonded on you. My female did the same to me. Weird. I think the turkey will need kept separate with supervised visitation only. Piper has gone too far though. Establishing the pecking order can be done without such brutality, I've bonded with her as well which makes it even harder to make a decision.

I'm sorry about your goose! And what kind of jerk steals somebody's turkey. Farm life is hard, raising birds is so much fun, but when something bad happens its heart breaking. I recently got back into peacocks. I just bought 2 pairs, and 2 hours ago when I went in the coop, I noticed one of my peahens hurt herself, and there was blood on her breast. I'm beside myself! Sorry about mumbles and piper. I had a coturnix quail female that attacked to kill some quail pen mates- killed the male, was horrible! All this because I received 5 new quail penmates. I put her in an inverted wash basket and noticed that it took 3 weeks for her to try to bolt at all other animals- surprised me big time- never imagined such viciousness! Now she is calm -doesn´t attack the quail or the budgerigars that share the aviary. One of the quail, I was sure would have been blinded by the attacks, but has since recovered to having one compromised eyes- the rest is ok. It is a tough call. Good luck. Hugs from Portugal.

Thanks so much. I've done the warm compress on her head. She's now in the heated garage but eyes still have discharge blocking them, been researching to try and figure out how best to cleanse them. Still trying.

@@WhittAcresHomestead Hun try eye drops. I know u put warm cloth on her head but trying just over her eyes with a syringe just over her eyes. Mayb there just crusted together. We had to do that with one of our hens because of an attack from a rooster. He now has a new home! I agree u can’t let Piper do that. It’s sad cause we love them so much and she was always with u. But can’t have that happen. I hope so much something works she is a sweetheart. ❤️❤️

Just keep dipping her beak in some mash feed (water fowl like it soupy) every few hours everyday. Just like teaching a chick where the food and water is. Maybe look into tube feeding to get her through this tough spot. Once she regains some strength the sounds of the ducks feeding may lead and encourage her to do so as well. If you have a trusted small gentle duck think of giving her some company, once shes feeling up to it, so she can hear the sounds of eating. Try mashing a hard boiled egg into mush and put a bit in her mouth. Then dunk her beak in the water. It will give her some protein and force her to at least clear her beak and mouth the water. I think you are making the right choice with piper. Its sad and absolutely sucks, but its very likely she will pluck the eyes of another bird. Best of wishes ♡

hey its ok that mumbles wont eat, whenever ANY animal sustains injury, eating is not only too much energy spent on digesting and moving the food through the body, but it halts autophagy and deep healing of the body. mumbles is in a fasting state and is able to heal much faster and heal at a much deeper level. when they are ready to eat something high nutrition/biophoton availability and easily digestible like berries is great. im sure mumbles will be fine! dont worry about not eating, humans can go a month without food! and animals much longer. its a hit or miss with recovery if the injury is too severe, they wont make it, but i believe mumbles will be ok❤

@@WhittAcresHomestead yep injurys are no joke, my stepmom had lots of chickens and a broken bone, tendons, or ligaments can cause blood clot and they can die from that anywhere from a few days or up to a week or 2 after injury. most injuries where the animal wont eat for 5+ days means that the injury was pretty severe. hopefully mumbles eyes are okay and i think this level of injury mumbles will bounce back. get mumbles some blueberries for after recovery haha 🫐

Was Mumbles fed a particular chick/gosling food instead of the adult feed? Sometimes they'll eat food aimed at hatchlings, like it's a comfort food. You could also try adding some sugar to her water to get a few carbohydrates into her when she drinks. Don't leave it in there though, just when you're there to supervise.

Maybe go back to the eye ointment instead of the ? silver? It is likely the bright light is an issue for her. It's time consuming but try to do the warm compresses. If there's any infection the warmth will help draw it out. There's also the mental trauma she's dealing with, that could be worse than the physical injuries.

Yeah, you have some tough decisions to make, but I think they need to be made. I agree with everything you said in the video about the type of homestead you want for ALL your animals, and I suppose Piper has shown what she is capable of and I think she would see, in her own way, that what happened was a win in her eyes.
