Messing around with our FTB-2 pro, I've noticed there is an Optical Spectrum Analyzer. Not sure if that is something you would be able to go over but if you do thank you.

Kevin, I have a question. When using the auto setting on the OTDR. Is it possible to damage SFP’s? Our concern is when we are troubleshooting an active customer. Will the auto setting cause damage when it’s acquiring the distance? I would assume it wouldn’t but would like your opinion on this.
@KevinPeres Жыл бұрын
It depends on the situation. In fact I am going to change how I train on setting up an OTDR. I have a video on this page about SFP safe mode. In all the years I have tested standard 1310/1550 wavelengths I have never seen an SFP blown out or proved to have been the cause. In my experience. With that said DWDM optics and DWDM OTDRs use different detectors and lasers. In auto mode an OTDR will pulse to 20us which is tremendous power. We do this for ranging. If close enough to a DWDM optic it can damage the transceiver. Drop me an email and I can explain how I train on OTDR setup. Kevin.peres@EXFO.Com

Hi Kevin. What is the maximum distance for tone detection for the Exfo otdr..?
@KevinPeres Жыл бұрын
It depends on the OTDR’s dynamic range. Which one do you have ?

I use EXFO FTB-200 V.2 with old software. I heard that it can be updated and the interface will be changed, as on new devices. Can you tell more about it?
@KevinPeres2 жыл бұрын
We have gone through some changes over the years. I loved the FTB-200 in fact I purchased one for my personal test museum. The FTB-200 has some age so it so it can only be updated so far. The important question is what module do you have in the platform?
