Brian is my favorite. Dude is brilliant and amazing at what he does. Also, he’s a walking miracle, his head is screwed on tight after all the abuse and trauma, and he is doing well nowadays! Also not to mention, his straightforwardness when doing interviews and promotions is very wholesome, this man doesn’t live for the spotlight, he lives to help others feel happy through his music, and he’s been that way his whole life.

My favorite Beach Boy is Carl Wilson. He lived the rock & roll lifestyle in some ways. After all, he was a Wilson. But he eventually proved to be a bridge between the warring factions in the group. A very spiritual man, he was a conscientious objector during the war in Vietnam. He was probably the group's best instrumentalist, and he learned a lot of production skills from Brian. And yes, he had the voice of an angel, but he was far from a choir boy.

Timothy White's 'The nearest faraway place' which also explores the family history of the Wilsons/Loves is almost a case study intergenerational trauma and how abusive and self destructive behaviour gets passed down. I find the story of the Wilson brothers deeply tragic but am glad Brian has lived long enough and gotten himself to a place where he can tell his own story and see how loved he and his music is

Sir----------You missed a couple of key points : 1. From the summer tour of '63, up to '81 when Jeff Foskett came along, it Was Al Jardine, who's voice was good enough to hit all of the high falsetto notes that BW hit on his songs. Al's finest moment is on the '73 Concert album, when he & Carl trade verse/ chorus, on " DWB " . Al always showed up, did his parts & never caused turmoil. -----------2. While it is true, that Mike Love always had an outsized ego, & a sarcastic personality, it IS also true that his lyrics & perfect Bass voice, were keys to the group's success. --------3. You fail to mention Bruce who played a huge part in the harmony structure of the group, both in concert, & in the studio. ---------4. Carl was MD onstage, & when he returned in '82 , he took complete control of the group's onstage personnel, the music, played, & the songs performed. he also had perfect pitch, & an ear so good, he always knew when someone missed a part, or, did it less than perfect. Carl was a fierce perfectionist as MD, & as Billy Hinsche once said, " no one ever wanted to get 'the look " from Carl " -----------5. BW's voice improved dramatically from his '88 album, & the '92 Paley sessions, such that by " Imagination", he could sing for real, again. --------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o, & a Fan, from the very start, the Fall of 1962. ---------From 8/64, to 10/97, i saw them 24 times.

Hateful Mikey does not sing bass. A low tenor, at best. I don't think Al would say shit, even if he had a mouth full. One of the nicest guys! Carl, what is there to say about Carl Dean, other than what Brian says. "I miss Carl!" He was an amazing man and Artist! Dennis Carl. (Who named those 2?) An acceptable drummer, from what I've hears, the only real surfer in the band, and a notorious playboy. If this song doesn't bring tears, you have no soul. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5WlcoGpqct9qac Brian, well, Mister Beach Boy, regardless of what his "cousin" says. Without Brian, you'd have 2 brothers, a good friend, and Murry's nephew forced in. They probably would have never stood a chance! Look to Sir Paul, and Sir Elton, for the opinions. And, I get to see Brian, Alan, and a band so good, they named a city after them, Chicago! 6 June 2022! (I hope Al brings Matt.) [Edit] June 7th. Matt is a member of The Brian Wilson Band. Concerts were BOTH Bucket list items![/edit] steve

A few points, Murray Wilson died in 1973 (not 1970), I understand Mike Love did surf and longtime band member Bruce Johnston was also an avid surfer, It's also been argued that Dennis and Charles Manson fell out over the Manson song Cease to Exist (recorded by the Beach Boys as Never Learn Not to Love) over Dennis's changes to the lyrics. I don't like Mike but his touring as "The Beach Boys" is a function of the directors of Brother Records Incorporated (BRI) of which Mike, Brian and the estate of Carl Wilson voted in favour of (over Al Jardine's objection) after Carl died in 98. Al did write a few decent songs I like better than At My Window, particularly Take a Load Off Your Feet & Santa Ana Winds & All This Is That. Thank you for the Video!
@lesliegoodman-malamuth97963 жыл бұрын
@Blend42 I grew up only a few miles west of the Wilson family (Dennis surfed on our beach), but when it comes to surfing, Mike Love was never more than a wanna-be. He was well aware how much competent surfing would have added to his image, but he never got there. Mike’s done little more than pose with surfboards and bikini-clad girls on the beach... Bruce Johnston did/does surf, but he was not a founding member of the band.
@brucew36413 жыл бұрын
No, Mike didn't surf or try until they became famous. Dennis was the only one who did, there's plenty of interviews back then where they all say this.

Isn't Al's presentation a bit too short? Al is much more than just a short man with a farm. Also, you forgot to mention Carl's own issues with substance consumption in the 70s

I would venture to say that Al's greatest songwriting contribution is not At My Window. Rather, it is his collaboration with Mike and Carl on All This is That. True, that work is derivative of Robert Frost, but, as a whole, it is absolutely beautiful.

I don’t think Brian knows for sure, he thinks it may have been that or many other things, he took a beating as a kid, and went deaf when he was 9, and that happened over time, so its hard to say for sure how that happened. He also claims he was born deaf, but who knows lol

I don't think Mike ever said he has as much talent as Brian! I have the book, too! Though I haven't read it all, I have heard him in many interviews. Mike has been attacked by many as being a talentless jerk. So he defends himself and just wants to set the facts straight as to what he did. But the haters call that bragging. He can't win. Lol!
@Geritopia2 жыл бұрын
It's not at all difficult to find ML quotes which are pure aggression / self aggrandizement. I did see a recent interview with him where, factoring in the mellowing effect of age, he said many reasonable things. And while that's all cool and stuff, it's not extraordinary to be a nominally decent human being. Then again, he likes to wear a cap with his own name. Who does that?
@magictransistorradio49332 жыл бұрын
@@Geritopia They can be interpreted that way for sure. Definitely Mike is not perfect. But if he contributed a lot of lyrics to songs and didn't get credit for them, and many fans are convinced he didn't, after awhile, it's natural to defend what he did. That defense may come across as bragging or aggressive. I have seen similar things in team sports. A super star may get all the credit for a chpionship team. But even they need good players around them to have a good team. Sometimes the 2nd best player on a team doesn't get any credit and only won because of the super star. Which is true, but super stars also lose when the team around them isn't good. The 2nd star may explain what they did well and how they complimented the super star to make the team better.

My thoughts: 1. Wow. Brian gets a full third of the video to himself. That's not going to leave much for the others. 2. I remember when Dennis drowned. I was in Kindergarten. Before winter break, I'd never heard the band name before. After winter break, I knew they were an oldy band and my classmates mentioned them frequently for the next two weeks. (Yes. That's right. Kindergarteners talking about the Beach Boys.) 3a. What? Why would you go with Mike next instead of Carl? Carl's the third brother! Mike's just the cousin! 3b. I don't hate Mike. He's not my favorite personality, and we'd never be friends... but I don't hate Mike. 4. Three minutes left? Geez! Carl, my man, you're getting ripped off! 5. Al doesn't even get a full minute. That is how clean and uncontroversial he is. 6. It's great how this video includes footage of David Marks but never mentions him. Wait a minute! No, it's not!

Lay off Mike Love.. The other beach boys aren't around anymore, and that is not mikes fault he isn't touring with them. Mike never did drugs, probably why he is one of the last beach left. Showing Mike love with TRUMP then slamming him... shows your political motivation. Mike is just playing the hand he was given. Mike never claimed to be the genius behind the beach boys. Brian has admitted several times in recorded interviews that Mike did help write the Lyrics on the hit songs. Mike has never claimed to arrange or produce any of the hits, he concedes that Brian was the genius in respects to arrangement and production. It would be financially stupid for Mike to tour as "mike love band" instead of the Beach Boys. Brand name = Smart business decision. I"m unsubscribing to you because you got this so wrong.
