So much of the world I do not know about, thank you for this video! Love to all. If you think about the thousands of years back, and the richness of culture, and how humans got to those intensities of culture in so many ways around the world and try to mesh it with the idea that once people didn't know how to make tools or build fires...... it seems like that would have had to be a VERY long time ago, if ever.... it is mind blowing! Some cultures believe their ancestors came from other star systems.... interesting too!

This was very informative. I had no idea about the origin or how they viewed themselves. I know there are ethnic Chinese Muslims in China in a different area. I watched a travel vlog and they had huge mosques bigger than anything I have seen in the West. They don't seem to be persecuted because they are ethnic Chinese and they are not viewed as separatists. Interesting

That’s a mis-analysis. They’re not called separatists bc Hui Muslims are literally not claiming a Hui Land and want to be separate. And there’s no such thing as “Chinese ethnicity”. There’s hundreds of different tribes inside the (what westerners like to overgeneralize as) “Han”-Chinese. Hui are their own ethnicity.

Xinjiang has had mongols and other ethnicities such as the Han throughout time. It belongs to all the people there and they all consider it home. Han Chinese brought civilization, culture, science, agricultural technology to the area. Others opt to eschew modernity and live in tents and were illiterate…

Xinjiang is the name for northern Xinjiang formerly known as Dzungaria (a land settled by mongols) and southern Xinjiang (settled by Uyghurs) . So the whole of Xinjiang was not settled by the Uyghurs. It is only after the Qing Dzungaria war that the Qing brought in Kazakhs and Uyghurs and other people to populate the northern Xinjiang. Many centuries before, the Han had gone as far as central Asia during the Tang ,so the Chinese were not new to this place .

I think it is good to mention that the Uyghur has Iranian culture or origion too. For example the narrator's name of this video has a Iranian name and arabic-iranian family. Arsalan is a name of a mythical person in Iranian poetry. Or may be after The Seljuks occupied Iran they accept Iranian culture.

China ruled Xinjiang during the Han Dynasty, which was B.C., much earlier than Turkic history. Turkic peoples were nomadic peoples that originated in the Altai Mountains and had some culture so they merged with the oasis civilization of Central Asia. At the height of their power, they ruled large territories in Northeast Asia and Central Asia, but they soon officially split into Eastern and Western Turkic peoples under the political means of the Sui Dynasty, and then Eastern and Western Turkic peoples were destroyed by the Tang Dynasty. Pan-Turkists fictionalize history, there has never been a Turkestan state in history, if only cultural similarities identify it as a nation, then the Mongols, Japanese, Koreans, and Vietnamese can all be said to be Chinese!

It's so easy to become a gangster (but harder to create a System Of Thought in which there are different *levels of being a gangster*) -- all you need to do is to sleep too long or show up to work late One Time. I wonder who these parents are, who have such a strange theory about politics that they don't believe they should "Properly" participate in a country in which they are a citizen. It's REALLY OBVIOUS IF SOMEONE'S A GANGSTER, and they all seem to defend the ones who first suggested that there could be different Levels Of Being A Gangster. (this belief in levels causes the gangster to increase his aggressiveness "From Within", and does nothing else. Yes, one's community ought to be expected to be helpless against such an "attack" on it)

There’s so much misinformation here. Comparing it to Palestine-Israel is disgusting and not based on facts. Also, where is the proof it hasn’t been autonomous? During the time of autonomy, almost all high positions were held by Uyghur people. Maybe the separatists with extreme ideology didn’t feel represented, hence that claim of no autonomy? But y’all forget that NOT ALL Uyghurs wanna be separated and create East Turkistan. It’s your very individual wish. It’s very harmful to overgeneralize and violently force ur own ideology onto others. Many Uyghurs have been scared for their life from the separatist movement. Have some compassion for ur own people.

Uyghur people are related to other people in China. 'A study of mitochondrial DNA (2004) (therefore the matrilineal genetic contribution) found the frequency of Western Eurasian-specific haplogroup in Uyghurs to be 42.6% and East Asian haplogroup to be 57.4%.[146][147] Uyghurs in Kazakhstan on the other hand were shown to have 55% European/Western Eurasian maternal mtDNA.[147] A study based on paternal DNA (2005) shows West Eurasian haplogroups (J and R) in Uyghurs make up 65% to 70% and East Asian haplogroups (C, N, D and O) 30% to 35%.[14' - Wikipedia 'A study (2013) based on autosomal DNA shows that average Uyghurs are closest to other Turkic people in Central Asia and China as well as various Chinese populations. The analysis of the diversity of cytochrome B further suggests Uyghurs are closer to Chinese and Siberian populations than to various Caucasoid groups in West Asia or Europe. ' - Wikipedia

It's not about DNA... It is about culture, history, language, etc. That is what makes an ethnicity - not the DNA Also I want to add that the Chinese people have an epic and glorious history - Turks have had long contact with the Chinese and as you might know when the Mongols and Turks tried to establish their empire inside of a Chinese frame - they completely assimilated into the Chinese culture. Chinese culture is not like it's fire and water to Uyghur culture. They have similarities - of course. That's why I don't really like using culture as a word - since they overlap so much universally as well

@@k.n.6057 China is a huge country with 56 ethnic groups and different languages. It's the same with other countries that are made up of many ethnic groups and languages. E. g India has many ethnic groups and speaking diverse languages. According to the Census of India of 2001, India has 122 major languages and 1599 other languages. Similarly the US, Canada and Australia are multi ethnic countries. The native peoples in these countries were never ruled by the white settlers and they have different languages and historical backgrounds, not to mention genetically they're not related to white settlers. Should you support the independence of these native peoples from the white settlers?

@@k.n.6057 Xinjiang has been a part of China since ancient times. In the early Western Han Dynasty, the nomadic Xiongnu people in northern China controlled the Western Regions, and attacked the Central Plains from time to time. After Emperor Wudi took the throne, he adopted a series of military and political responses. In 138 BC and 119 BC, the Western Han government dispatched Zhang Qian as an envoy to the Western Regions, who convinced the Rouzhi and Wusun peoples to form an alliance to fight the Xiongnu. On three occasions between 127 BC and 119 BC, the Western Han authorities dispatched forces that inflicted heavy losses on the Xiongnu. They then set up four prefectures - Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan and Dunhuang - on key passageways from the Central Plains to the Western Regions. In 101 BC, the Western Han began to send garrison troops to transform wastelands to arable land in Luntai and some other places, and appointed local officers to command them. In 60 BC, the Xiongnu king who ruled the areas north of the eastern Tianshan Mountains surrendered to the Han government, which thereby incorporated the Western Regions into Han’s territory. In the same year, the Western Regions Frontier Command was established to exercise military and political administration over the Western Regions. In 123, during the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Western Regions Frontier Command was replaced by the Western Regions Garrison Command, which continued to administer the Western Regions. The Kingdom of Wei of the Three Kingdoms Period adopted the Han system, stationing a garrison commander to rule the Western Regions. The Western Jin Dynasty stationed a garrison commander and a governor to exercise military and political administration over the Western Regions. In the Three Kingdoms Period and the Jin Dynasty, the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Dingling, and Wuhuan in northern China moved inland and finally integrated with the Han ethnic group. In 327, the Former Liang regime spread the system of prefectures and counties to the Western Regions and set up the Gaochang Prefecture in the Turpan Basin. From 460 to 640, the Uighur Kingdom of Gaochang centered in the Turpan Basin and with the Han people as the main population was ruled successively by the Kan, Zhang, Ma, and Qu families. The Sui Dynasty ended the long-term division of the Central Plains, and expanded the areas in the Western Regions that adopted the system of prefectures and counties. The Turk, Tuyuhun, Dangxiang, Jialiangyi, Fuguo and some other ethnic groups submitted to the authority of the Sui. In the Tang Dynasty, the central government strengthened its rule over the Western Regions by establishing the Grand Anxi Frontier Command and the Grand Beiting Frontier Command to administer the Western Regions. The ruling clan of the Kingdom of Khotan (232 BC-AD 1006) asserted that it was related by blood to the emperor of the Tang Dynasty and changed its surname to Li, the surname of the Tang emperor. In the Song Dynasty, local regimes of the Western Regions paid tribute to the Song. The king of Uighur Kingdom of Gaochang honored the Song emperor as “Uncle” and called himself “Nephew in the Western Regions”, while the Kara-Khanid Khanate (840-1212) sent envoys many times to pay tribute to the Song court. In the Yuan Dynasty, the central government strengthened administration over the Western Regions by establishing the Beiting Command and the Pacification Commissioner’s Office to manage military and political affairs. In 1251, the system of administrative provinces was adopted in the Western Regions. In the Ming Dynasty, the imperial court set up the Hami Garrison Command to manage local affairs, and then set up six garrison cities - Anding, Aduan, Quxian, Handong, ChijinMengu, and Shazhou - between the Jiayu Pass and Hami to support local administration. In the Qing Dynasty, the imperial court quelled a rebellion launched by the Junggar regime, defining the northwestern border of China. It then adopted more systematic policies for governing Xinjiang. In 1762, the Qing government established the post of Ili General and adopted a mechanism combining military and political administration. In 1884, it established a province and renamed the Western Regions as “Xinjiang”, meaning “land newly returned”. In 1912, as a response to the Revolution of 1911, Xinjiang became a province of the Republic of China. In 1949, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) was founded, and Xinjiang was liberated peacefully. In 1955, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was established. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, all ethnic groups in Xinjiang united and worked with other groups across the country, opening a period of unprecedented prosperity for the region.

The Northern part of East Turkistan called “Ili Kazakh autonomous prefecture”, it’s a big chunk of that area. About 3-5 million Kazakh people living in that area nowadays. Especially in the Altai region there were 98% of its people were Kazakh back in last century. Altai had separated to 4 different parts, and that area blocked the connection between East Kazakh land with Mongolia. Altai region was very especial also because it’s never been fully belongs to the Qing Empire hundreds of years, it resisted the most. If you know about Ospan Batyr, he was the spiritual leader of East Turkistan Independent movement, like Che Guevara of us. Currently Han Chinese still very worried about this region and kept the Ospan’s relatives and descendants in jail…
