Salve Emanuele! I know Morlacii were the vlachs with black caps who used to live in the balkans mainly in Montenegro or Maurovlachia/Black Walachia which gives the name today as The Black Mountain. They were semi nomadic shepherds who were practicing transhumance, they were forming caravans to move goods(cheese/salt/leather etc.) and military services across the balkans. What I want to ask you is what is ‘ripa’ meaning from Bagno di Ripa?

orthodox people in krajina region, lika and dalmatia are descended from orthodox vlachs. they were a nomadic people who originally spoke an eastern latin language whose original homeland is in the pindus mountain region of northern greece. they still exist there today in greece. they are called aromanians. a branch of these people migrated to croatia via albania and montenegro who were called morlachs. another branch of aromanians migrated to todays romania and adopted the language of these people. serbian orthodox church was forced on these orthodox vlachs in croatia because the serbian orthodox church had strong influence over the occupiers ( austro-hungarians, ottomans), and supressed the establishment of a croatian orthodox church or a morlach orthodox church. serbian assimilation was aggressive upon them. thats why serbs are the majority amongst the orthodox faithful in croatia. there is still alot that didnt accept this serbianisation, and these souls must be counted. dont label people serb just because they are orthodox. this is not the truth and it is discrimination. orthodox not equal to serb. orthodox can be croat , vlach, albanian, romanian, bulgarian, greek, macedonian aswell as serb

+Kosta Σ Yes Vlachs are the Latinized people. Which is why they include the Illyrians and Thracians, as well as the Macedonians (who probably account for the Vlachs of Greece). Supposedly the Vlachs are not one uniform ethnicity, but so many parallels in many things are similar to Vlachs everywhere, even in the DNA. Even if it does not make them all of the same origin, it does suggest that most of the Balkanic (including Greek) and Carpathian stock were of close relation to each other.
@Userius16 жыл бұрын
+Dorian Hellene Yeah, they were so "Greek". First of all, Greek or Hellenic identity was more of a confederation than anything else. By the time of the Persian Wars there were already several tribal presences, including Dorian (Epirotan, Spartan, Macedonian), Ionian (Athens and some other coastal dudes off of Anatolia), Arcadians (supposedly Pelasgian), Achaeans (supposedly Mycenaean), as well as some other minor groups and Minoans (who I'm not sure would be represented by any specific region during that time period). These groups all brought elements of their own pantheon and influenced each other, ultimately being united under the Attic and Koine dialects. These Greeks or Hellenes, rather (as Greece is a modern name), would then continue to be involved with each other and influence in a variety of ways, especially warfare. On the Thracian side, where do you see such influence? Did any Hellenic tribe use the curved sica blade? Did any ever utilize a rhomphaia? No. Not any such presence can be attested to with them in any work of writing. The Thracian customs were deliberately described by Herodotus and other writers after him. Their kinship is far closer to the Illyrians and even moreso to the northern Dacians, neither of which could be considered Greek, although there was Hellenic influence that spread to them. The only Thracians that were in any way Greek were the Odrysians, since they were a confederation of tribes that formed a capital and used the Greek "polis" method of city management as a base for their newfound kingdom. Other individual tribes such as the Dii who slaughtered a whole Greek village during the Peloponnesian War or Triballi and Agrianes that Alexander used in Asia were of a separate stock. To call everything in Balkan antiquity "Greek" is a faulty act by modern Greeks who don't realize that by doing so they are making the same twist of history that the "Macedonians" *ahem* Vardarskans do.

1.Greeks always considered their tongue "superior", how they got latinized? 2.What about Vlachs from Croatia, Serbia, Poland, Czechia, Ukraine ? Were they Greeks too? 3. Why the closest to their language is Romanian, not Greek, Latin or Italian??
@alpidistra14 жыл бұрын
It is still a great mystery how this "latinization" actually took place. Historically, latinised people were city dwellers, usually part of the upper and middle class of educated merchants. Latinization is also strongly tied to religion and is usually confined to Roman Catholic populations. It is a mystery how Dacia, which was only briefly under Roman rule, adopted the Latin language. How did a largely illiterate pastoral people living in the mountains lose their native language?
@isissophieandandreea2 жыл бұрын
It did not happen, this is the truth. Latin comes from proto-Romanian language. Emperor Trajan when we came to battle the Dacians said, I return to the land of my forefathers. All this Roman Empire ballony and latinization will soon come to an end. It was meant to create an aura of greatness for thieves and attackers, instead of praising the civilizations that never sought any wars. When we stop glorifying the villains, turth will come out.

Albanians are not related to Romanians/their kin - Albanian is a standalone IE language not related to Romanian, which is a Romance language. If - and it is a rather big "if" - the Vlachs are somehow descended from the Dacians/Getae in blood and not just in language, then they occupied a different area of Europe than the Albanians of today did. And loanwords do not mean that languages are related. It just means people assimilate what they hear and deal with on a constant basis.

@bestopinion92574 жыл бұрын
@Janos Musatic Hungarians DNA has found in west and central Europe because you absorbed many populations. But also your DNA is linked with Asia. Hungarians went from Asia. It can't be DNA from ancient Hungarians in Europe, lol, you can be smarter than that. The DNA that links Hungarians with Europe is from those absorbed populations. As opposite, we were always here. Vlachs were shepherds. Dacians were shapherds. Those Dacian/Romanian words descripe a shepherd life. You want proves but you ignore the proof because did not fit your theory. You say Vlachs went from Albania in 13 th century but your fuckin' Gesta Hungarorum shows that Arpad asked Gelu (Vlach) for land. And then you make maps of that era putting only Bulgarians in the zone. And as you said, we did not become Hungarians just because they conquered the land from shepherds. We did not become Hungarians just because Austrian Hungarian empire made administration in Transylvania. We shepherds Dacians (Vlachs) were always been here but with no leaders and no army. But as always we were many. And when we managed to make leaders and armies we get back the leadership in the zone. Those from Albania are Aromanians. Still Romanians but with other dialect. Dude, other dialect, aka other people. You speak only from Aromanians as all Romanians are Aromanians. You blatantly ignore facts. As long as you clearly went from Asia shut the fuck of. About us is at most debatable (just because of you, no other country believe what you say) but for you is CLEAR, you went here from another distant place.

One, that Latin speaking peoples from other regions migrated to Dacia recently, especially after the fall of Constantinople by the Turks.

The term Vlach is originally an exonym. All the Vlach groups used various words derived from romanus to refer to themselves: Români, Rumâni, Rumâri, Aromâni, Arumâni etc. (note: the Megleno-Romanians nowadays call themselves "Vlaşi", but historically called themselves "Rămâni"; The Istro-Romanians also have adopted the names Vlaşi, but still use Rumâni and Rumâri to refer to themselves).
@andreast21689 жыл бұрын
It is clear, for someone that has done his homework, that Vlachs are Thracians. Not Greeks or Shqipetars(Albanians). As for Romanians, we have a 90% common language, that is true, but that does not make a Vlach Romanian, but a Romanian is partially Vlach. Furthermore, the reason why our language is so close to Latin is because, the fact that Vlachs were mostly doing the job of the sheperd, made them the best warriors, as they were familiar with killing and hard work, so they were Roman Warriors, that's why you will find Vlachs all over the Ancient Roman territory. For example in Italian when you want to say ''Good Evening'' you say ''Buona sera'', while we, Vlachs say ''Siare Bune''.As for Sqipetars(or Albanians), you will find Vlachs in the Toskic side of Albania, on the southern part( Moscopole or Voskopoje, Vithkuqi, Argirokastron or Gjirokastr and many more, which means that Vlachs stayed where they were since they moved to that place, which is proved by the fact that Vlachs never payed the Turks in Greece as they ( Turks) needed them to show them the paths around the mountains. As for Greeks, whatever you say about Vlachs or Arvanites ( Arberor) in Greece, is called PROPAGANDA. Of course the last person in Greece that could be called Greek is the Vlach. The fact that i am Vlach does not bring me to the position of admitting something false, like the superiority of the Vlach ''tribe''. Vlachs can so easilly adapt, that you never realize that a Vlach speaks a different language than where he lives and he speaks both fluently. Proud to be Vlach and Proud for my ancestors that have contributed to the maximum to create Greece (Averof, Zappas, Arsakis, Tositsas etc.) and call it the new home after losing Great Vlachia. Herodotus first told that a nation is the one where it's citizens have : same blood, same language, same ethics, same religion. I'm afraid all the bonds are broken. Vlachs are everywhere, Vlachs are everything.

BIG QUESTION ; if the first write trace of vlah are from 536 it s evident that they are down of danube earlier. some pretend that the macedonian of alexandre are in fact vlah and speak the same kind of language, they don t speak ancient greek. So if this is true, we can imagine that vlah are in fact the last living entity of the prehistoric pelasgian invasion ... I can t say that is true & i can t say that is totally false, the truth are somewhere between PROUD TO BE AFGIAT FROM VERIA

+Andreas Toris Andreas is a difference between Vlachs in Serbia and Vlachs in Greece. Vlachs in Greece (as those in FYROM or in Albania) speak Aromanian (zburasca armaneashti). Vlachs in Serbia, speak Romanian. All speakers neolatin were appointed appellation Vlach.

I dont understand when some people try to use mongolian as a negative thing. Why? Maybe now mongolia is not the richest country but mongolians already have left significant historical and cultural legacy before. Mongolian empire, one of golden ages of china by mongoian origined emperors etc. But what the hell have the romanians done which is similar to that???? Bocskoros koborlo kecskepasztorok. Personaly for me mongolian is a very positive word. Any connection with them just make me proud.

What about the vlachs from Baluchistan?...Bactria... :) Who had "latinised" them? Or "germanised" them? :) Valahii, Getii, Dacii, (S)Arimii, all these names means the same thing: WOLFS! From Western Atlantic Europe, to China, from Scandinavia to N-Africa, we have countless tribes an nations with these names, all having a more or less Carpathian legacy from Starcevo-koros/Cris Culture from 7500 years ago.

Where did I lie Greeks are Greeks and Latins are Latins there is a big difference "I’m not famous but I’m Aromanian" by Toma Enache its a comedy,drama, romantic move not a documentary. Not all things are invented by Greeks, even Greeks took from others like writing and other things. 2000yr ago the Greeks didn't have a common identity and different languages. It is true History can't be changed not even by Greeks... with their lies which befits their own propaganda.

The vlachs have albano-macedonian roots, they have nothing to do with Dacia. The romanization of the "romanians"(vlachs) took place in the Byzantine Empire they had also a state ther called Great(=old)-Valachia.

Hi! A good day to you! Tell me please what mean the word TATA in your language?Why the great ruler St. Stephen called the bishop Deodatus TATA?Let me tell you something else: 1256 and 1262 and two documents with the same content.Belonged to the Hungarian chancellery. Content: king Bela consecrated again officially the right of Esztergom bishopric, to charge the Romanians and Székely, from the area of her....AS HAD BEEN ENSHRINED FROM THE TIME OF ST.STEPHEN! So you see they knew about our existence in PANNONIA along with Szekels...who live there with us and pay taxes.

By the way, Valah, Vlach mean in fact ROMANIAN! ANd Great Valachia means ROMANIA... or this name, is in fact the name of Roman Empire!?! Was de real name used by all! The barbarians, aka. Germans called the empire Valachia and his citizens, free men Valachians. If you want to know more go please on KZbin and search this "Romania a history of the name". I have a bad info for you. Is finished the best study about a county from Romania with the most modern tools. Is called ArcheoGIS. Was finished in 2010 for TIMIS COUNTY and the result is very interesting. They discover at least 300(!) places in Timis County, and most of them have Dacian artifacts, roman and post-roman era after 275, and also vestiges from the Dark Age (V-XI,XII cent.)

Another info. Dacians were not massacred after the final war (106 BC). Even from the time of the first war 101-102, Dacians were enlisted in Roman army. After 106 a lot of them have the same "luck". They appears in a military diploma from 126 BC and from another from 152BC, when they were discharged. We knew a lot about them what they do every day and how they fight and ranks. They were regarded as great warriors and and are sent in the most important areas of the Romania. Along the roman history we know 20(!) Dacian units from Roman Army. I will make soon a well documented clip about this problem of Dacians after 106 BC.

And what you say:..."The romanization of the "romanians"(vlachs) took place in the Byzantine Empire"...is strange for a simple reason. After you will read what i say to you, in my first part...you will deny the existence of Romania, the name of Roman empire and also Latin culture in Byzantine Empire...but doing so you will contradict your self! Read again what you say...about our and were, so called "romanization"...This dilema is easy to solve: we live in actual Romania a part of the old Romania! By the way in time of Constantine the Great, Dacia was recaptured by this emperor, otherwise I do not understand why there were three stone bridges(!) built over the Danube during his time (latest discovered in 2012!). With respect, SA.

@unomnacajit11 I think that we both know which part of the Balcan peninsula was called Thracia. In my oppinion Thrakians are closer to Phrigians than to Illyrians. Some would say that Illyrians and Dacians were Thracians too. But that is really only some subjectively political motivated theory which is as you people from Balcans like to say "propaganda" and its goal is to show on some way "who has more historical rights on a particular territory".

@unomnacajit11 Please read carefully! I have naver said that Dacians were Slavic. But I said that Dacians were teutonic, thus of the same origin as Gets and Goths. But I will research more about them. But let me asked you a question how can you explain so many slavic river names and names of the cities and words of slavic origin in today Romania? And on the other hand Slavs in the Balcans have rivers with Latin names.

For all uneducated people … im an original Vlah my blood is older than 1000 years and my roots go back to 750 BCE... i dont give a fuck about what you guys think what or who we are ... stop Talking bullshit stop spreding false Information .. the vlahs are the dacians our first area was between Romania and Hungary which was about 700 BCE. About 960 we had our first State until 1245 then we were spred into 2 Nations the Wallachia and Severine Banate and this until 1354 - From 1354 we were unter the Rep.of Venice and we were put together as Wallachia until 1860 and then the Name was changed into Romania 1870 i think . So the only truth is that the Romanians today are Vlahs and some of the Hungaryan people also. We dont have Nothing absolutly Nothing to do with Albanians, Serbs, Greeks , or or or STOP THAS WRONG DISINFORMATION ! WE ARE ONE OF THE OLDEST PEOPLE ON EARTH AND WE DONT HAVE NOTHING COMMON WITH THE SLAVICS OR GREEKS OR ALBANIANS.

Vlachs of course are ROMANIANS, the only extant Eastern-Romance people. SOME FACTS (that some people of states with Romanian ethnic minorities don't like to recognize and are trying to distort, to deny or, at least, to diminuish): The Romanians ('Vlachs') are the single Romance people-nation who preserved their ancestors' [true] name. The cradle of the Romanians ('Vlachs') was situated and still is preserved on both banks of the Danube river. 'Vlachs' is the foreign name given by [neigbouring] strangers to the Romanians. The Romanians call/called themselves [in Romanian language] as 'Români/Rumâni', i.e. Romans. It is an indisputable fact, attested in written internal & external sources, that the Romanians used this name ('Români/Rumâni') long before creation of Romanian nation-state (1859). Doesn't matter that some [small] parts of Vlachs weren't born in Romania, anyway, it is pretty clear, they still are ethnically and linguistically Romanians, because the ethnicity can not be defined on what passport you have got or what country was you born or are you living in...for example, Albanians not born in Albania are Albanians too(e.g. in Kosovo, Greece, Italy), Bulgarians not born in Bulgaria are Bulgarians too (e.g. in Ukraine, Greece, Macedonia), Hungarians not born in Hungary are Hungarians too (e.g. in Slovakia, Ukraine, Serbia), Germans not born in Germany are Germans too (e.g. in France, Romania, Hungary), Russians not born in Russia are Russians too (e.g. in Estonia, Kazakhstan, Romania), Geeks not born in Greece are Greeks too (e.g. in Turkey, Georgia, Italy). It's very simply! Otherwise, many peoples can not be recognized as beeing of some ethnicity before the creation of their [unitary] state-nation. According to this 'theory', for example never existed Germans before the creation of Germany (1871), never existed Italians before the creation of Italy (1861), or never existed Russians before the creation of Russia (ca. 1721), or never existed Greeks before the creation of Greece (1830), or never existed Albanians before the creation of Albania (1913), etc., wich would be a stupid affirmation. So, of course, so-called [by their neigbours] 'Vlachs' are nothing else but ROMANIANS!!!

1:39 'is not' germanic but hungarian and english [maybe celtic because the hun similar to ancient celtic] walk to walk b=v; g=k; ballag=to walk slowly like the shepperd lets go in that way---> tha hungarians are scythian nomads the vlachs are shepherds too the thracians and scythians are the same - see Eusthatius and Stephanus of Byzantium who say 'the scythians are thracians who previously were called Nomaeos' so the huns are steppe nomads the vlachs are mountain nomads.
