Who are the Zoroastrians? History of Iran's Oldest Religion

Who are the Zoroastrians? This is a video over the history of Iran's oldest religion and the journey of one of the smaller ethnoreligious communities of the world, but also one of the most fascinating as an incredibly affluent, successful and influential group of people.
Although small and (rapidly) dwindling in number, the Zoroastrian (also known as the Parsi or Irani) community remains fascinating to many, not only in the Persian/Iranian realm, but also around the world due to their interesting diaspora and influential relations. Thanks for watching!

Interesting fact: While the Indian government promotes small families for population control in general, for the Parsis (Zoroastrians) the government is actually funding programs encouraging them to married and have more children. Because of their industriousness and philanthropic contributions, non-Parsi Indians (except for the edgy bois in the replies) have a very positive opinion of the Parsi community and would not want them to go extinct.

My coworker isn't a Zoroastrian but she is from Iran but is now a US citizen. She said a significant portion of Iran are not actually practicing Muslims because Zoroastrianism is the traditional religion of Iran but they had Islam shoved down their throats. Another woman I worked with who was also from Iran I found out today is actually a practicing Zoroastrian which is cool. I have heard the name before but never actually knew anything about Zoroastrianism it until last night and it's super interesting.

@@pres4417 Iran officially protects religious minorities, these are: Zoroastrians, Christians and Jews. It is illegal to openly practice the Baha'i religion in Iran though, because Baha'i are considered to be apostates to Islam. Iranian people are surprisingly tolerant towards other religions and cultures, and even strict Shia regime supporters usually have no problem with religious minorities living and openly practicing their religion, although proselytizing is strictly forbidden. Many Iranians are highly educated and know a fair amount of history. They have studied about the forced conversion to Islam, and later on the forced coversion from Sunni to Shia Islam, and most recently the theocratic takeover of the country by clerics who are seen by the general public as corrupt and illegitimate. To sum it all up, I belive that most of the younger Iranians are sick and tired of religious dogma and want simply to live in a free and liberal country.

@ Masaman Thanks for covering the Zoroastrian faith. As a Christian, I have a great respect for the Zoroastrian religion. The 3 Magi that were guided by the Star of Bethlehem and traveled to visit Jesus as a baby were Holy Men of the Zoroastrian faith. They recognized the significance of the birth of Jesus and they had the guidance of the Heavenly Father as they journeyed back to their homelands. The Lord guided them to keep them safe from the corrupt King Herod. Their interactions with the Lord are written in the Holy Bible. As a Christian, this to me is evidence that the Zoroastrians follow the Creator of all things, as do we Christian people. I always enjoy your content. Have a Blessed day, my friend. 🙏

Zoroastrianism was born as a revolt against the religious setup in India. Because of this Zoroaster thought that there was a great deal of injustice done to his people i.e. Asuras by Devas. So he revolted against it and started rejecting the religious practices of Devas. He felt the need of a new religious set up for his people to unite them and the concept of Zoroastrianism was born. After that He left India with his followers and settled down in the region in today’s Persia and Mesopotamia. Historians are still so confused even today because they have still not understood the events that led to the birth of Zoroastrianism and why Devas and Ahriman, who were once worshiped, were suddenly shunned as evil beings by later day Mesopotamians. Zoroastrianism was born as a revolt against the religious setup in India. Zarathustra received his divine revelations in a mount in India and he was born in India and not in Mesopotamia. The Zoroastrianism is nothing but an offshoot of Sanatana Vedic Dharma Of India. That is why it started believing that Devas were evil spirits and Asuras were good spirits. It was a set up against the Devas and that is why they were expelled from India. This again proves the irrefutable fact that the Mesopotamian Civilization was created and founded by Ancient India. If so, maybe you know that the book of Romans, chapter 13 says "The powers that be are invested by God", and "whoever resists those powers resists God" and by doing so they will be "damned". Since you believe that "this world belongs to Satan", that means that "Satan" runs the world by command of your "God", who wants it that way. So your "God" is in league with "Satan"! Although I’m American and purely of European decent, I’ve always been fascinated with this religion since learning about it in one of my classes. For whatever reason, it appealed to me the most out of all the world religions we studied in that course. Something about it and the people seems so attractive to me. If memory serves me right, it’s, unfortunately, only something you can be born into, not married or converted into.

forgalzz7 The term “Catholic” was only applied to the Roman church AFTER their separation from Orthodoxy. So yes, in a sense. And yet we all celebrate “Pentecost,” but we are not “Pentecostal,” we “baptize,” and yet are not “Baptist’s.” Attempting to manipulate terms to suit an agenda you know is false only gives away the faults in your agenda. The Byzantine traditions, liturgy, and way of life is clear and present in the Orthodox Church and always has been. It is not now, nor has it been for 1000 years present in the Roman church.

glad zoroastrianism was covered. it's a unique ethno-religious identity. that has surrounded itself in obscurity since it was driven out of iran when they were expelled by the abbasids. they have limited populations, and generally remain knitted to their communities with no much outsider contact. thankfully, india has provided them refuge for centuries and made them one of their own. they've assimilated to indian and hindu culture while still practicing zoroastrianism. sadly, iran is still oppressive towards them. to me, it seems like some elements of zoroastrianism never died. for example the veneration and cult of personality surrounding ali in twelverism. like how zoroaster is venerated as a prophet

All information is sourced and from the latest genetic studies by the world's formost scientific publications. All of this recent genetic evidence has proven there to be 90 to 95% genetic stability in Iran since the Iron Age. Arab and Semitic, Turco-Mongol, and South Asian related admixture does not exceed more than 5% in the general Iranian population, minorities exluded. Furthermore, Proto-Indo-European related admixture accounts for 20 to 30% of the modern Iranian genome, and Chalcolithic Iranian admixture accounts for 60 to 75% of the modern Iranian genome. The fire of the Zoroastrians is without any doubt related to the Hindu concept of Tapasya. It is frequently mistakenly defined as penance. But it's real meaning is the fire of purification which burns through the body releasing the follower from the pain and ignorance of their samskara's. It is these samskara's which hide from us the light of God, and the right direction of life, or Dharma. I am sure that the Zoroastrians worshiped this outer fire as symbolic of the inner fire and the process which leads the soul to freedom. Thanks for making the video. Peace.
