To be honest, Tom, if he carries on the way he is he’s going to be impossible to ignore and the fact that there has been no dip in performance no matter if he plays 6 or 7 Just ads to the chance of being selected. I think he’s quality 🏴

Personally i'd say that was a massively overly optimistic prediction. For me jac morgan & tommy raffel are the only welsh players anywhere near lions consideration & given the best of those prospects jac morgan missed the 6n i think we'll be lucky to have a single player in the squad. Rio dyer could be a bolter but he's suffered from playing in a really poor welsh side so it's been difficult for him to show what he can do. But those others you've highlighted are nowhere near for me.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast8 ай бұрын
That fair mate. I think saying we would be lucky to have a single player in the squad is quite harsh. Admittedly, this was an optimistic prediction, but I’m an optimistic guy and I think Wales will improve next year😁

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast There’s nothing wrong with a bit of optimism my friend. If i'm honest i was pretty dejected after this years 6N so i can’t help but think worst case scenario. Hopefully you are right about an improvement next season because this one was painful.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast8 ай бұрын
Yeah I totally relate with your feelings tbh. I felt the same way too. I just honestly think this is the lowest we can get and it seams as though the WRU are trying to actually turn things around for a change and we’ve got a lot of rookies that next year would have had experience in big games so I’m hopeful. Plus how well ospreys have been doing and how well the young players at Cardiff have stepped up 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Hi Christian, the next Welsh lion, Will Rowlands, Joe Hawkins ,Aaron Wainright, Daf Jenkins, Dewi Lake, Jac Morgan, Tommy Raffel, Tomas Williams. I can see Rio Dyer and Cameron Winnett in the lions i do agree with what you have been saying there are some good Welsh players that should play for the lions. I know we were Grand slam losers in the 6N but there is a few good solid individuals in the Wales team and should be in next years lions tour. Well done on you 1000 subs and catch you soon Take care

As an irish fan i think both ireland and eng starting 2nd rows are better than the welsh 2nd rows, so maybe one will get in as 5th choice based on current form and ability. Being brutally honest the only area of strength in the forward pack is the back row so guys like Morgan and rafell have a good chance but back row is also stacked in eng and ire so only one will be selected. In the backs I think a Welsh 9 and winger will be selected and possibly winnet at 15 (as injury cover). Aside from that no welsh 10 or centre will come close unfortunately
@TheWelshSportsPodcast8 ай бұрын
Yeah tend to agree with everything you’ve said Joe. Hard to argue in fact. I do think Jenkins and Lake will make it on the plane though. I’m hoping for bid improvements next year from both of them 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@@101MIGHTYJOE Hi Joe I know there will be no Welsh at 10 we are struggling at that agree, Ireland and England have got good second rows Cameron Winnett on the wing and Jac Morgan

Picking a Lions XXIII this week - even if Gatland was coach(!) - you'd struggle to make the case that any Welsh player was the best option in his position. Refell and Dyer on the bench would be arguably more than we deserve. But I agree we've got the right to expect improvement next year, and I don't think it's impossible that any player you've named could be in the frame in 12 months' time. Weirdly I'd put Wainwright's chances as perhaps the highest, simply because attacking 8's are in such comparatively short supply. Unless Ireland completely implode next season (a prospect as delicious as it is vanishingly unlikely) then any 50/50 calls are going to go to Irish players, and quite understandably so. And even our best is no better than 50/50 against their counterpart in green right now.
@TheWelshSportsPodcast8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I guess retrospectively I was a little bit over ambitious perhaps. But I do feel like this should and could be big strides next season know that lots of young players have been blooded and have gained experience. Add into that some of our quality players coming back like lake and Morgan Let’s hope anyway 😂🏴

Must have read my mind with this I was just thinking what Wales players make the Lions next year 😂 I was trying to think logically how many players in each position go on the tour each time and it doesn't look good for the Welsh lads. Morgan and Reffell I think are the only nailed on Lions. Jenkins and Tomos Williams should make it but I'm not 100% given the other nations depth. Could we see Wales with the fewest ever players from one of the Home Nations in the Lions squad next year? I think the record to beat is 3 😂 I only laugh or else I'd cry
@TheWelshSportsPodcast8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I have to be honest Jonathan I think I overestimated slightly how many players will make the tour? I guess these guys are the ones with the best opportunity, but same as you when you look through the other nations the depth is going to be quite hard for the Welsh boys to match. Of course I’m still hopeful, either that or very foolish😂
@jonathoncollins68618 ай бұрын
@@TheWelshSportsPodcast Have to be hopeful. Theres a lot of talented players who could do a job for the Lions. Depends on what Andy Farrell thinks. I see a very very large Irish contingent coming and wouldn't be surprised in they make up almost all of the test side too
@TheWelshSportsPodcast8 ай бұрын
Yeah, your spot on. Almost certainly going to be full of Irish players and you have to say rightly so. I’ll be interested to see who he does look at from Wales as I do think there is a fair bit of young talent in our small country and I’m really hopeful that next season we start heading in a much more positive direction😬

On current form, these lads aren't going. At some point, you need to learn how to win. When you think of the multiple trophies and experiences of win, other sides have. They're the real deal. 2 or 3 will go or get called up, but I can't make a case for these guys currently
@spud78238 ай бұрын
Ospreys have beaten 4 South African sides, 2 in SA with young Welsh talent, last time I looked South Africa won the world cup, Wales will have a higher ceiling in the next few years, due to blooding young talent.

@DM-rp9ik8 ай бұрын
@spud7823 It remains to be seen how high the ceiling is thats media talk tbh. The Welsh lads could be good players in a few years, but in most positions, they're up against guys who are not only good players but proven to be consistently good players with the medals and experience.

As much as it pains me to say considering the history of welsh players who have been exceptional for the lions with test match winning performances.. if not a single welsh player makes the starting 15 I wouldn’t be surprised even though catastrophic considering wales rich history supplying players that the lions simply had to have in any starting test 15.. the list of welsh greats since the inception of the lions has been seriously impressive for such a small rugby nation… but wales need to concentrate on themselves right now and need a huge improvement in next yrs 6nations to even think any welsh players could be considered for the lions..

I do see a big improvement coming over the next year. I may be over optimistic but a lot of young guys have got exposure at both regional and international level and there’s good signs at Ospreys and Cardiff. @@TheWelshSportsPodcast agreed ... there is optimism and I've seen it many times with Wales over years of ups and downs.. I honestly do feel there has to be a couple of serious changes in coaching staff .. ie attack coach for one and not to mention it yet again the 25 cap rule for obvious reasons..
