@joncoishАй бұрын
But player salaries don’t go up because all teams got together and decided to increase salaries, they go up because teams compete to try and sign players and different teams will offer higher wages to try and win those contracts. If you just tried to reduce salaries in England the top players would go to Spain or Italy, if they were reduced across Europe the top players would go to Saudi. The problem I see it is that the so called big 6 in England can handle it but then it gets passed down to the smaller teams as well and they’re the real ones that will struggle.

FA Cup: Really simple solution… Scrap replays (and extra time). However, before the game, clubs are offered the chance to swap where the fixture is played. Lower league clubs would benefit from increased revenue (and fans get a day out). Premier League clubs have then benefit of playing at home. E.g Tamworth and Spurs would both prefer the game to be played @ Tottenham. Where teams are drawn against opponents in the same division (Blades Vs Cardiff), there wouldn’t be a replay which neither club (nor the fans) want. Furthermore, with it being decided in 90 mins (then straight to penalties) clubs are more likely to play stronger teams as there is increased jeopardy on the game and there wouldn’t be fixture congestion.
@jakehowie442Ай бұрын
Actually a decent idea, if both teams agree to play at bigger stadium, they should. The only drawback it takes away the jeopardy of playing away a lower league ground with a crappy bobbly pitch

The reason ticket prices are going up is because the average premier league player is on a six figure weekly salary and a typical transfer fee is north of 30 million or so. Yet the same fans spend every transfer window screaming at club owners to spend fortunes on new palyers for their clubs and if they don't said owners are accused of mis-running the club or not caring enough about the fans. The reason I became fascinated with English football in the early 2000s as an American was the sport itself and the atmosphere of watching the games. I could only get a couple games a week and I had to record them because they aired mid-week in the afternoon. As the global viewership has risen I could tell the change. Seemed more of a franchise feel than a club feel. Now I don't really pay attention to the EPL. When I do catch a match I watch the EFL. To me those matches still have that feeling I remember of when I first started watching the EPL all those years ago. I do realize now that it is partly me and the like to blame for this rise in commercialization of the EPL.

Well, there you have it. All of these losses the 19/20 clubs are experiencing come from the RIDICULOUS figures players are now getting on a weekly basis in clubs all around the country. To think a player like Marcus Rashford is on 350k a week, and he hasn't exactly broken many records in his 7-8 years at Man United speaks volumes. Players across the world only come to the PL purely because they expect to make big figures, otherwise they'd stay either in the previous league they were playing in, or make the move to their home country and play in those leagues domestically.
@spinningowl9510Ай бұрын
Don't forget Jack Grealish too who's has broken a record for being the most expensive British player at the time and hasn't contributed to a goal in a calendar year!!!
@pratosaurusrex1128Ай бұрын
There are some clubs that (comparatively) have been more responsible. Liverpool are well known for their tight wage structure. If you take out Salah, VVD and Trent their highest earners are on £150k a week. Given the climate that’s not bad for a team challenging for league titles and champions leagues each year. Tottenham also have a reasonable wage structure for a ‘big 6’ club too. Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal have particularly high wage bills.

If the Premier League and UEFA capped players salaries to 80k a week and got rid of transfer fees, scummy club owners would have less reason to rinse loyal local fans!!

Hold on whose a tourist. And how do I qualify? If for example can't get a ticket because non member. For me no tourists at Premier league clubs as there are no tickets for non members unless the Cup. I will say this only once, there are no spare tickets. You only give to 80%, at the moment it's 100%. or if not certainly 95% because of some rogue sites offering tickets at high prices. So that's less supporters going.

The one thing Scottish football does well is giving tickets to schools in disadvantaged areas, my friend is a teacher and Celtic give tickets to several games every year and plenty of other teams do family days with tickets cheap as chips and this obviously works in encouraging people to then buy tickets as they get a little older as Scottish football is the best supported in Europe per capita which is not bad for a wee country.

I’m feeling a little guilty as an American traveling to England to watch a football match and prepared to pay the fees for the experience. I’d love to show some solidarity…but also, this might be a once in a lifetime trip, so I guess I’ll pay what they charge.😢

When I was in primary school about 10 of us won three tickets each to go and see Chelsea play a match. I think things like that where the clubs support local schools will pay off but most clubs are too short sighted to realise that.

Great that the overlap brings light to this , there should be one price for general admission and that’s that , corporate tickets charge whatever but for the average hard core fans it has got to be affordable or football in England will regret it in the future
@MrJaynashАй бұрын
That finance guy acting like clubs raising ticket prices is reasonable because of rising club costs…the obvious thing to do is reduce player salaries across the board. Why are working class fans having to fund salaries for millionaires when they would still do the same job for 100k a year
@jakehowie442Ай бұрын
Blame for owners and the Premier League for paying those wages. If the Premier League capped wages to 50k per week, it’d make the game cheaper for fans and make the game more equal competitive
@hurrayforanonymsАй бұрын
I think he was just answering the question about whether increased ticket prices can fund a player purchase. And why U.S. owners favour increased ticket prices. But salaries are definitely way more impactful, and increasing ticket prices are often just a penalty the fans pay for poor financial management from clubs.
@hhandley100Ай бұрын
He isn’t saying it’s reasonable. He’s just giving the reasoning that the owners would give for raising them.

Ref Ticket prices- The only thing that will work is government legislation that protects the fans. It would actually help the clubs because their biggest cost is salaries- and if ticket prices are regulated players salaries cant be so big- and with everyone in the same boat there would be no real loss. At the same time, if an owner moves a club more than, say 10 miles, they lose all rights to the name of the club- this is to head off any future idea of franchises. Also, fans need a scheme where every club has at least 5% owned by fans, but over the years this slowly increases. Clubs belong to their local fans, owners are only caretakers.

I didn’t hear once about the ills of capitalism or a forgotten class consciousness. We need to wake up. Our game is being eroded beneath our feet. We all see the problems and the answers almost exclusively boil down to profits for shareholders. These people simply don’t care about the game - they care about the bottom line.
