Freight equal charges policy and subsequently removing manbhum district from bengal was a devastating reason. Although we got back purulia but majority of resources went out of bengal. Industrialists from west india took advantage of this policy by buying raw materials at the same rate at which factories of calcutta bought. Bengal government did not protest against this policy which was a blunder. If companies got raw materials at same rate even if they are far from the source, they will set up factory on the west coast for the ease of exporting to the western countries.

I left Bengal in 1998 and left India in 2002. When I read stories of India’s progress and watch videos, I get optimistic about India, especially for states like UP, MP, Haryana etc. But when it comes to Bengal stories, I get depressed, especially when Mamata blabbers and misleads the innocent and ignorant people of Bengal. I fear the seeds of intelligence in Bengal have been left in the harshest conditions for decades and may not germinate properly. And if some gritty ones manage to sprout, may not flourish for lack of nourishment. But we must try. And I hope and pray a regime change with divine blessings will be the turning point. The three guiding stars of the current political dispensation at the Centre are all from Bengal; Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on the political front, Swami Vivekanada on the spiritual front and Ravindranath Tagore on the cultural front. And I am convinced our PM has very high respect for the core values of Bengal and will do a wonderful thing for Bengal if given opportunity and reasonable amount of time. But first we the progressive people of Bengal must first uproot the invasive weeds whose roots have gone too deep over the decades in the fertile plains of Bengal. Jai Maa Durga, Jai Maa Kali!

Lot of industrial projects have started over the last few years, and many are in progress. Kolkata doesn't have nearly the same infrastructural issues as Bangalore. No safety problems like Delhi. It has a higher GDP than Bangalore, Hyderabad. For women, Kolkata is still by far the safest metro. I can understand comparing Kolkata to Mumbai or Chennai - but both the cities (and Bangalore) benefited from favorable central government policies and targeted investments. But Kolkata has improved a lot since the early 2000s, and it is getting better. And there is now even a small startup scene (with some pretty good companies). Bengal has had among highest MSME growth in last few years in the country. We have much larger issues than Bengal the state - there are terrible central govt policies since 2009 or so around tax terrorism and not allowing or killing new industries - that's what is holding the country back as a whole.

I want to share about my experience of starting a service office in Kolkata. I applied for GST online and it took 10 days for them to reply. Now the problem began. The local GST office replied with email wanting unnecessary documents which are only required during purchase of property or mutation. Then they wanted proof of electricity meter installation even after submitting electricity bill. Lastly they wanted a map of my office which is on 2nd floor of an apartment. I submitted Google Map and Mouza map(stamped) which didn't work because they could not see the 2nd floor on google map and Govt. maps don't have images of buildings. Ultimately rejected. I always got harassed at every Govt. office for paperwork. I left for Noida and got my job done there. The day is not far WB will look like Somalia. Already you can see 3/4 of all beggars in West Bengal.😢

That means if your land was an agricultural land 200 years back but now it is urban with all the buildings and apartments. That's why you can see more non Bengali are filled in Bengal than Bengali. If they are migrating from their own states , why aren't they not eligible in their own states to get job or do business. Why only Bengal. Blind people are saying only Bangladesi people. Then they should speak pure Bangal bhasa not bhojpuris or matlis. Just observe your surroundings before blindly saying anything.

It's so true😢, my mother went to chandigarh for her msc and she said that women working below her post were paid higher salary than her, but here govt. Is busy paying money to women whoose husband have govt. jobs but not increase salary, i hope and plan to move out of bengal after i complete my college for job, hopefully someday a chance to another country too

I am a bengali. I left Bengal in 1996 after I failed to get a job in Bengal for a long time after my graduation. I moved to Delhi and settled there. I appreciate Aditya Saini for the detailed and informative video on the decline of Bengal. I have seen how the factories employing hundreds of people got closed in our state during the communist rule in the 80s and 90s. People were encouraged to attack rich people and snatch there properties. Acres of land were captured by the left front goons. The left government actually encouraged this in the name serving the poor. When TMC got to power, I hoped for change for the better. But they only worsened the situation. These days hardly any educated and capable Bengali stays there. Mostly move out to other states or out of the country. TMC has adoped a shameless approach of providing full state backing to Bangladeshis who enter the state illegally and get all necessary government IDs and faclilties in a very short time. Mamata Bannerjee knows this tactic is necessary to keep herself in power for long. State jay bhar me. Her only aim is to hold on to power. It's sad that even well educated people keep voting for her for their own interests. If they do not wake up and throw out TMC government, West Bengal will soon be worse than the Bihar of Lalu ragime. Cong, Left and TMC all have ruled and pushed it back to darkeness. I think the people of Bengal now should give and chance to BJP and see what they do in five years.

Kolkata and Bengal were murdered by TT Krishnamachari in 1955 when he equalised the prices of all industrial raw materials. In 1966-69 Mororarji Desai openly asked all industries and banks to go away from West Bengal to Maharastra. He refused to give any contract to them. When CPIM came to power in 1977 West Bengal was already dead. Thus, Tamils, Gujaratis, and Nehru destroyed Bengal and Kolkata. In 1970, West Bengal was destroyed already.

Missed out some vital points. First, the division of the state and the targetted killing of Bengali Hindus in East Pakistan made millions to migrate in West Bengal right upto this day. Secondly, the Jute fields were in East Bengal, but the Jute mills were in the West, this is why Jinnah tried to forcibly occupy Kolkata in Direct Action Day in 1946. But he failed and the situation became a detroriating stalemate. Thirdly, with millions of unemployed Bengali refugees, government of India enacted Freight Equalization Policy, which did the capital shift. Other than these 3 the video was largely correct, hope we rectify our mistakes and other issues ailing us now.
