“She’s fierce.“ Yeah you should’ve experienced this with us in the 80s. This type of persona was a new concept for a female artist, and we were blown away. Pretty awesome.

Not all the fans from the 70s who saw the Runaways! We knew....there were legions of us who watched happy days for leather tescadero and worshipped Suzi Quattro, to a lesser extent, Wendy O Williams. But we knew joan from her teen years. We watched every crappy movie cherie curry did, hell, we supported the bangles because of micki steele. Go gos were still punk at this time, it was a good time to be a rebellious chick.

As others have commented you need to check out Suzie quatro she was the first female rocker and had to make it in a man's genre of music.she is in her 70's now and still gigs and has a new album out.joan Jett said she was a direct influence on her.if you look at Joan's outfit and hair it's basically the same as Suzie's but red.

The end of the song "Bad Reputation" opens the video, the first song Joan Jett and The Blackhearts released, and that song really laid out Joan's philosophy. She was going to be herself, and everyone else just get out of the way. With a few expletives thrown in. Got to experience Joan Jett from about two feet away in a club in Boston one night. So much energy and pure presence, you gotta love what she brings. And by the way, she really does love rock and roll. She proves it every time she takes the stage.

Mum used to put on a gig for them all once every couple of months it was mostly Status Quo as that was their favourite group but other rock and roll songs that would get them staying in the dancefloor. They still remember the fun of those nights and Mum dancing along with them, and my little son who was about 2years old dancing along with them. She still is badass. More Joan Jett please!! She has done some phenomenal covers. This is one (original by The Arrows). Other great covers include: Crimson and Clover (Tommy James and the Shondells), Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (AC/DC), Love Hurts (The Everly Brothers, famously covered by Nazareth), Season of the Witch (Donovan). I would also recommend the songs Do You Want to Touch Me, I Hate Myself for Loving You, Bad Reputation (you hear it at the beginning of this video), and Little Liar. Further back is her work in The Runaways.

Her song ACDC is just as hard and kicking as anything she made 30 years ago. She's an absolute icon! Be sure to check out her first band, the Runaways and especially their song Cherry Bomb (the first true 'girl band' anthem, though the Runaways were hardly 'girls', they were hardcore artists!)

Believe it or not, this Blackhearts version in 1981 is Joan Jett's second remake of the song, which was first released by British glam rockers Arrows in 1975. Her first remake was with Steve Jones & Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, after both their old bands broke up. The latter version sounded more like a guide track, embracing a more muscular sound (& with British backing vocals!), & was released as a B-side single in 1979.
