I think this discussion should have taken tabs from the Bible: Who discipled Samuel, Moses, Timothy, Paul? Samuel and Moses were first weaned (discipled) by their mothers before Samuel was handed over to Eli and Eli began to disciple him. As for Moses, I’ll say his mother’s words must have remained in his heart even after he sat after living in Pharaoh’s house and later on, Jethro began to advice Moses, this can also be seen as a spiritual fatherism. From 1 Tim 1:5- Paul wasn’t Timothy’s first Discipler. His discipleship started with his grandmother and mother before Paul came into his life and became his spiritual father. Ananias first discipled Paul but from the book of Acts we can’t see any interaction with Ananias after he went to Jerusalem. This means your spiritual father or Discipler may change. Ultimately the major point is that we have Christ as our first Discipler and as we go through different seasons in our lives, he would lead us to a person or persons who would be there to echo the word of God to us.

This episode made everything clearer now, let's take a look at the first 12 disciples, Jesus was their spiritual father and Jesus' relationship with them defined who a spiritual father should be💯 Especially when he washed their legs, so spiritual fatherhood is beyond titles. John 14-17 got so much details. 📌Another POINT is if the precept of love stands in the entire body of Christ as God wills, Discipleship, Relationship between spiritual father(male/female) and the children should be built on God's love where we can speak the truth to one another in LOVE. It all bores down to genuine discipleship like how Jesus did as written in the bible.

In my own opinion i think that we can have seasonal spiritual father. When we look at the bible for example we can see that some of the Disciples of John the Baptist left him who was their spiritual father to follow Jesus making Jesus now their spiritual father so in that case I agree with Ife James 😊. Secondly I think you can be older that your spiritual father, that is not a problem, Jesus was younger than the majority of his Disciples but He was fathering them and teaching them what to do. When it comes to spiritual things although God respects leadership I think spiritual fathering is not a matter of age. Another example I will say is of Moses, Moses was younger than Miriam and Aaron but in my understanding he was their spiritual father. Thank you for this discussion 😊🙏

Yes I agree with Ife, Spiritual father can change because our dealings with God are different. Transition can cause that and transition in Christian life is an evident of growth, so you may be led to submit to a person that God has helped in that new direction you are taking. Jaymikee just nailed it!! I was going to mention that the possibility I see for a change in spiritual father is because both parties are still human(prone to errors). It's the only reason in my own opinion. Either party may deviate from God's path, which could affect the purpose of the relationship

The question on if one's spiritual father can change? The reason I think it is possible: because if the spiritual child leaves the location of his spiritual father, maybe travels to a different country. And he needs to have a spiritual father close by that he can be accountable to, and guide him. But my own question is: can someone have more than one spiritual father? Using the scenario i wrote above, what happens to the other spiritual father

I believe that a spiritual father can change depending on your calling. For instance as a young convert your Pastor becomes your spiritually father as you grow in your relationship with the Lord, the Lord can lead you to go under the leadership of someone else for the assignment He has for you.

Now we need to understand the role of the whole body of the church in impacting lives i.e the release of grace or a certain dimension of grace must not only be from your spiritual father all the time; but even with that it doesn’t stop him from being your father. I am afraid to say that it is common now that believers use the so called “change in season” to cover up their rebellion. Paul told the Corinthian church “you may have many counselors, but only one father…” So except in a case of death or falling away(derailment from the truth), it is expected that you maintain the same father yet being open to the graces in other people’s lives. In fact in a healthy father-son relationship your spiritual father can refer you to other believers that he sees a certain dimension of grace in their lives that you need. Consequently just like Jaymikee said your seasons doesn’t change your sonship . My take…Thank you 😊

My contribution to this is that; Spiritual fathering is also your pastor. Your Spiritual leader. The person you know and you can call a father and can call you son or daughter anytime, anyday. The person that take the roll of a father maybe when your father can't be, like a spiritual covering over you. While; A discipler is someone who guide you to become what God want you to become. For example, if your purpose is to become a pastor or a prophet, a discipler guide you to become that, like Elijah and Elisha. And also the person is doing or living your calling already. Yes both titles are use in the kingdom. And your spiritual father can also be your discipler, the most important thing is if he is grace to fulfill both in your life. Mentoring in the other hand, is like what you said it use in career wise. Thank you🙏

An individual may have multiple mentors, instructors, or guides to provide support in various areas of life-spiritual, career, or personal growth. However, one can only have a single spiritual father. Ideally (in the Christian context), all mentors, leaders, etc should align point us to Christ regardless of their strategy or the area in which the provide guidance A spiritual father is someone who takes direct responsibility for nurturing your spiritual growth, from your spiritual birth to maturity. Like a biological father, a spiritual father can assume multiple roles as needed to support and guide you throughout your journey.

It's almost 2025 and y'all haven't fixed the intro🤣🤣🤣 funny though. This spiritual father thing is something we need to discuss. This year many of us saw a pastor speak about another as his spiritual son and the "son" said it's not true 🤦🏾‍♀️. There's videos of them together, one was obviously teaching the other but the student didn't consider that a father son relationship. Then there's the type where the father is someone you've never met and you have someone who is there talking with you all the time and he's not your father 🙆🏾‍♀️. It's giving deadbeat 🤣🤣. I believe accountability is a huge part of it. I used to attend Salvation Ministries and everyone considers Pst Ibiyeomie their father but most of us would never meet him. Then there's people like my mom who knew him in school, she's older in biological age and spiritually, yet she calls him "Papa", it's really confusing. I've always found it weird how we focused on honoring the G.O and never talked about the local pastors we all knew personally. It's such a dilemma, I'm happy you guys started this convo. He mentioned it in 39:17 In your walk with God, there are times you need men, mentors around, a spiritual father and it is not too big or too small to pray to God about. So, pray to God to lead you to who he has placed to walk with you in that journey.
