I always wonder why Israelis call the Gaza Arabs palestinians...they are not, but by calling them that name you legitimize that they are - while it is a lie. There has never been a palestinian people. If there were than Jews who also lived there - just as Arabs - are also "palestinians." The Philistines were an Aegean people - related to the Greeks and with no connection ethnically, linguistically, or historically at all with Arabia - they conquered the Mediterranean coastal plain that is now Gaza in the 12th Century BCE. Israel defeated the Philistines back then and drove them out of Gaza. The name Philistine was much later given to Israel by Roman Emperor Hadrian, who's occupation was responsible for several decrees that sought to crush the National identity and religious spirit of the Jews some time after Roman Emperor Titus smashed the Israeli resistance in the year 70 and took most Israelis with the as slaves to spread them all over their huge Empire. But the Roman Empire disappeared and other occupier's toke over the Land such as the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire and the name Philistine was done away with and they renamed the whole region Syria - until the British became the world power and occupier and it was them to rename the whole region Palestina, that is: Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt combined. So ask yourself: where is the evidence that proves that there was an ancient palestinian State? Where are the old scrolls that describes its history - in it mentioned old Kings, old Rulers, old Governments and Government buildings - where are the old cities, old coins, old ruins, old roads, old harbors ??? THEY CAN’T SHOW ANY OF THESE MENTIONED ARTIFACTS ! Israel on the other hand CAN show MILLIONS of mentioned history and artifacts that PROVE they belong there. It is islam that doesn't tolerate any other religion which is the root of all conflict. We are waiting for the return of Lord Yeshua / Jesus to bring about peace.

The general thrust of your commentary is correct but some detail, specifically regarding Britain’s involvement is not totally correct. Following WW1, when the Ottomans who were Germany’s main ally were defeated. British troops had fought the Ottomans in Palestine. The newly formed League of Nations drew up a plan known as the Mandate system to decolonise the Ottoman Empire into smaller nation states. The mandates were awarded to France and Britain. Specifically, Britain was tasked with facilitating the establishment of a Jewish state in their ancestral home, the Land of Israel or Palestine as it was then known. An immediate dilemma faced Britain as they had enlisted the support of both Jews and Arabs in the area to defeat the Ottomans but had made the same promise of their own state in the land. The Arabs, unsurprisingly felt betrayed. Britain then decided to create two new Arab states, Iraq and Transjordan. The latter by dividing Palestine, with the area to the east of the river Jordan forming the new state of Transjordan. They installed two princes of the Hashemite dynasty as the rulers. The majority of the people there were Muslim Arabs (Palestinians). Unfortunately the Arabs remaining in the new borders of Palestine west of the River Jordan still objected to a Jewish State there even though their civil, religious and human rights were guaranteed. Violence against Jews and subsequently the Brits erupted. Post WW2, Britain announced they would not be renewing the mandate and responsibility for the area passed to the UN which had replaced the League of Nations. In 1937 the Arabs had rejected the first partition plan for separate Arab and Jewish states (The Peel Commission), but the UN still thought a two state solution was the best way forward and produced a new partition plan in 1947 which was significantly more favourable territorially to the Arabs but they again rejected it. The Jews accepted and shortly afterwards declared their independence as the state of Israel.

Why does it matter who originally lived there? The fact that Jews were there first doesn't give them the right to ethnically cleanse those who were living there in 1948. (700,000 Arabs and Christians). It doesnt give them the right to set up an aparteid state since that time. And, it doesn't mean they should be allowed to commit genocide in Gaza. If someone disagrees that if is genocide, what would you call it? The present state of Israel is not the perfect, democratic country many believe it to be.

And by the way, the Israeli government were the ones who boasted of their intention to cleanse the land of the Palestinians in 1948.
