We use "subaltern" to refer to someone inferior or secondary in position or rank. Earlier it was used in the colonial period to refer to the one who held a lower or secondary rank to the captain or even a superior rank person. And, also it is used in Indian context for referring to a person belonging to lower caste or status including dalits and poor people with no means to meet the ends and fulfil their basic needs. It's false Aryan theory and there was no caste before there was Varna system as mentioned in the rig veda but britishers mistranslated the Vedas and ambedkar himself told that he does not know Sanskrit and so he read the English translation that lead him to misunderstanding..
