Gary was the engine in that band. He had a huge vision of this band that he brought to reality. I miss him. Saw REO twice. The You Get What You Play for is easily one of the top 5 live albums ever recorded truly live.

Absolutely Loved the way Gary Richrath Played He Was Awesome Golden Country Flying Turkey Trot He played with all emotion! And the way he kicked one foot up! Missed got to see him several times not enough though! What him and Neal Schon and Guitarist Like that could get out of a Les Paul! I am So Glad that Great Rockers like You keep this out there! I get Really bothered that these Amazing Incredible Musicians who gave us all are all dying before they are Honored like they should be It Horrible that whatever that thing in Ohio RRHOF or that one I refer to as Rolling Stones Magazine awards maybe if they were to try to build one of these in another State I can’t Believe Paul Rodgers or Gary Richrath and REO and Foreigner it is a joke of what they have done although and nothing against him but if they could induct Bruce Springsteen every year they would the I Feel like I got to grow up in The Greatest Era of Music and I don’t get their reasoning Journey got in because Bruce Springsteen and some others sang the Biggest Song ever written Don’t Stop Believing and then started saying that maybe these Bands should have been in there a Very long time ago and finally giving the Fans a vote Rolling Stones Magazine was jealous of How Popular Classic Rock Music was and now it’s as Big as ever seeing another Generation loving this Music going to the concert’s

Who was Gary Richrath? Well, in my eyes, one of the greatest lead guitarists that ever laid hands on a Les Paul. I've heard so many of the greats duplicated. Yet to this date, I've never heard anyone duplicate Gary's style or sound that he could make. Thankfully, I first heard R.E.O. back in late 73 or early 74 and became a fan of Gary's playing in the midwest before Kevin destroyed the sound of the band with his wimpy style. Gary Richrath, Neal Doughty, Alan Gratzer, and Gregg Phibin were R.E.O. Speedwagon, and it was Gary that took them to the top. Without him, who knows if anyone would have ever heard of them outside of the midwest. RIP Gary and Gregg! Keep rocking the heaven's!!!

I feel really Blessed to have been a teenager going into High School and What I Consider The Greatest Era of Rock Music and being able to go see many times REO Speedwagon with Gary Richrath and His Guitar solos taking you on a journey in your mind with a Smile that made it Fun! Recently on KZbin I have had alot of fun watching Younger Generations that have these Reaction Videos to Hearing Songs and Music they are just hearing for first time even Vocal Coaches that teach and a lot them watch The old Live Performances ( always the Best way to watch or listen) so many have watched the older REO Speedwagon videos and the very Songs from The Late 70s to early 80s and Classic Songs like”Golden Country, Roll With The Changes Songs that showcased Gary Richrath’s Solos and nearly every reaction they are So Amazed with Gary’s Ability to take the listener’s on same journeys I remember from seeing them Live and I Love that this many years later Gary Richrath Deserves that He was Special! Really Such A Shame that a True Rock Hall of Fame that should have been carefully put together and Built to Honor The Legends Like Gary Richrath and the Amazing Rock Musicians that Deserved to have that Honor Bestowed to them when they were alive to Celebrate! The Debacle that Really is just what seems like a Rolling Stone Magazine Awards showcase the Magazine itself is Really not a True Music Magazine and doesn’t know if it wants to cover Elections Social Issues more Politically motivated than Honoring What these Incredible Musicians did for So many the chance to Celebrate Living !

Golden Country from Live You Get What You Play For may be the most KICK ASS solo ever recorded. Gary was chainsaw on the Les Paul and honestly not a lot of people came close in that era. Another ASS KICKING lead was Back on the Road. Just a Les Paul straight to a Marshall. When they got MTV famous, he was limited because of Cronin but even the solos on KC wimpy ballad kicked in the ass.

I don’t like these guitarists who think they have to play every effin note on the whole neck. Duane Allman crafted unbelievable solos from just a few simple shapes on the neck and he was ten times better than these guys who play ten thousand notes and don’t know when to stop. I’m sorry Gary had such a tragic ending, but I think he’s totally overrated.
