The first black superhero in DC comics. From what I remember, John Stewart look is loosely based on the actor Sidney Poitier. Even Batman admitted that John Stewart that out of all the green lanterns he has the strongest will.

Always loved the Green Lantern Hal Jordan but when they introduced John Stewart in the early 70s he became my favorite. During the late 80s while serving in the Marines I read alot of john Stewart green lantern when I could. Loved him even more when they added the Marine part of his back round🇺🇸I did not know it was the jl animated series that put the corps in his history. Great John Stewart review/ history video learned a bit more about him after this great video. Thank you👍

John was established as the Green Lantern through the Justice League cartoon, when the Green Lantern movie came out in 2011 most of the kids in the theater I was in said, "Green Lantern is black, why did they make him white in the movie?" The cartoon that they grew up on had John Stewart and many of them hadn't read the comics to know that there were other Green Lanterns.

DC constantly wanting to move Hal to the front and protect his 'shining hero status" meant John Stewart was thrown into all kinds of weird things (Mosaic) and take bigger risks ((destruction of Xanshi). That ended up creating a more interesting and well-rounded character. That is why he is my second favorite Lantern (Kyle Rayner, the answer is Kyle Rayner) P.S. as you mentioned, John is from my neck of the woods (Detroit)... were Ernie Hudson went to college at Wayne State University. From you I learned he maybe played John's dad. Pretty neat in my book.

While John isn't my favourite (I'm a Kyle guy), he might have the most interesting character arc of all the Green Lanterns. From being young and having a chip on his shoulder, to chilling while finding love & marriage. Then, losing his wife, being tortured by an apartheid government, only to cope with all that by diving head first into arrogant superheroing... which caused a planet's destruction. We've seen him completely broken and rebuilt. He's the most pragmatic and mature of the Lanterns, willing to make hard choices. Thought it was perfect when he was the Corps leader. AND, despite me disliking whenever DC gives a GL some gimmick to help them stand out, I actually really dug what John did with converting the Ultraviolet powers.

Great Research once again. I'm thankful that Star Sapphire Conversion for J. Stewart did not last for too long. The Ultraviolet allowed him to defeat the Justice League and his punch-out of Hal Jordan (SF2) style was hard hitting (Green Lantern Corps #26 Year 2013).

Dominating conversation so true. At times the moments became a little cringe. I just see young as a purist. When it comes to the comics. And it nipicks a bit. And Blerd is more on the positive side. To put it simply it's a glass half full glass half empty type of situation. What I thought was going to happen did happen. People dominating conversation and tensions Rising. Great commentary as always. Not gonna lie I was a Marvel head growing up. So I did not learn about Stewart until that JL series came out back in 2001. Based hlthe way he was written he was my favorite. He seemed to be the most grounded of the four human lanterns. But I will say I felt that Raynor had the best costume of the group.

Same here. I grew up more into Marvel than anything else, even though I started with DC. I liked the mask on Raynor. Definitely. Can't deny that. But when John pulled up, you knew it was a wrap lol.

Great John Stewart background. I grew up with comic books so I already knew about Hal Jordan. He was also the featured Saturday morning TV show animated GL in the Superfriends. The TV shows after that switched to John Stewart, while the feature film and animated movies got Hal Jordan. If they decide to make a John Stewart movie they will need the budget to produce the complex CGI constructs. Since he's well known for them as the architect of the GL Corps. The studio will really need to take the time to assemble them right. That means no smashing through them like they're made out of glass. They need to react more like metal constructs. Anyway, I just hope if they make a movie they don't do that arm support thing. Suggested actor: Cirroc Lofton
