Actually in Ramayana he was referred as Vanara in which Van means Jungle and Nara means Human beings so the being living in forests. Not actually monkey but a forests dweller people. Jai Hanuman...Jai Karauli baba🙏

@@Exiide89 It has been mentioned in the Sundarkaand paath itself. दशनागबलाः केचित्केचिद्दशगुणोत्तराः | केचिन्नागसहस्रस्य means that "Some of the vaanaras are having a strength of ten elephants. Some are having a strength of a hundred elephants. बभूवुस्तुल्यविक्रमाः || ५-४३-२२ which Some are having a prowess equal to that of a thousand elephants." Also, fd złudel: सन्ति चौघबलाः केचित्केचिद्वायुबलोपमाः | अप्रमेयबलाश्चान्ये तत्रासन् हरियूथपाः || ५-४३-२३ "Some are having the strength of a strong stream. Some have strength equal to that of wind. Some other army-chiefs of monkeys even cannot be measured." In fact, in next lines, Hanuman ji further says that he will throw big boulders and gigantic trees with such strength that not even a thousand demons like Ravan would be enough to bear this force. Obviously, Vaanaras were an amazing creatures, definitely not just monkeys.

Story time: A friend of mine who happens to be a Muay thai teacher brought me an amulet of 8-armed Hanuman blessed by a Thai Buddhist monk since Hanuman is considered the protector of Muay Thai fighters. He told me that in Thailand, statues of Rama and Hanuman are found all over Theravadra shrines and monastaries. I'm planning to visit Thailand next year 🤩

Hanuman and other characters of the later Krittivasi Ramayana are central in Thai culture due to Ramakien being their national epic. You'll find Hanuman , Thotsakan(Ravaan) , Phiphek(Vibhishan) and Maiyarap(Ahiravan) statues as protector deities as in Buddhism , the the slain are also liberated and become dharmapalas. However, the Hanuman from Ramakien and Thailand is wildly different from our Brahmachari Hanuman who is the greatest devotee. There Hanuman is no longer a Brahmachari and is a mischievous hero in Ramakien and has more prominence than Phra Ram in the epic. He flirts with many apsaras and famously with the mermaid Suvanammacha called Machanu(Makardhwaj) .

@@TheB657 You should know that Krittivasi Ramayan(1400s) is older than Tulsi Ramcharitramanas(1500s) . Most of the things that you take as "part" of Ramayana like Lakshman rekha , Ahiravan etc first find mention in Krittivasi Ramayan and the prominence of Hanuman being "worshipped" as a deity began specially after Krittivasi Ramayan and Tulsi Ramayan. So the "worship" of Hanuman is not "millennia" old. Hanuman was as revered as Garuda and held much the same status and was seen as a very important and vital character in Ramayan and later scriptures. But the beginning of "worship" of Hanuman as an independent god began much later . And the Dasharatha Jataka predates both of them by another 1000 years My point is there is no such "ideal" description of Hanuman. Many cultures see different characters differently . It is upto the reader to understand . However , we see Hanuman as a spiritual figure and hence as you correctly say, it is the image or the idea of a celibate unwithering devotee that us as Hindus should bear in mind and pay homage to . But that does not mean that we should regard other cultures' ideas as "removed from ideality". Their culture(Theravada Buddhism) does not see Hanuman as a spiritual figure but a figure from their own mythology . So we should be respecting their culture as well and refrain from calling ours as the "ideal" one and theirs as flawed.

​​​@@nicholasflammel2017 Hanuman has been a revered deity since the valmiki Ramayan. It was not buddhist mythology as the Buddhism in India doesn't do that. The Buddhist monks, who went to these countries, they essentially amalgamated the existing hindu deities to make Buddhism palatable to the local populations who were hindu. That's why the Buddhism we see there is a mixture of Hinduism and Buddhism. An Indian buddhist deems the south eastern versions or tibetan versions of Buddhism as impure versions.

​@@Exiide89 Clearly you not properly read what I wrote. Hanuman has been revered since Valmiki Ramayan. I said that it is the "worship" of Hanuman as a "deity" only became a norm pnly in the last 1000 years. Reverence and worship are two very different things when put in context of religious history. Like I said, Garuda has been highly revered throughout the subcontinent . But you hardly see any "Garuda temples" . The form of Buddhism that spread to south east Asia is Theravada or Hinayana Buddhism and there is hardly any "deity" worship in Hinayana. Again, I say the word worship. Indra in the form of Sakka is revered in the Pali Canon. It is Mahayana Buddhism which adapted the concept of "devas" to Boddhisattvas . For example , the same Indra plays an important role in the Ushnisha Vijaya Dharani. Nilkantha Dharani , one of the most widely revered Mahayana Dharanis is essentially about singing the epithets of Vishnu and Shiva in the form of Hari-hara and you find mention of stuff like "Tripuradahaneshwara, Varaha Mukhaya etc. But Mahayana Buddhism spread to China, Korea and Japan , Vietnam (Champa) while Hinayana spread to Cambodia(Khamboja) , Thailand(Siamdesh), Indonesia , etc . But again, Thailand was not Hindu . Vietnam and Cambodia , Indonesia were Hindu Kingdoms. So your statement that "Buddhist monks essentially amalgamated Hindu deities to make Buddhism palatable" is flawed . For example none of the reliefs of the Buddhist temple remains show the older Hindu deities and epics which are abundantly shown in the older Hindu temple ruins . For instance just compare the bas-releifs of Prambanan which was a Hindu temple from the Sanjaya dynasty with Borobudur which is a Buddhist temple from the Shailendra dynasty albeit in this case, Prambanan is later than Borobudur. Lastly , it seems to me that you don't consider the people of the north east or Ladakh as Indians as you say that Indian Buddhists consider Tibetan Buddhism(Vajrayana) to be impure because they practice Vajrayana . Because otherwise it seems to me as if you only consider Navayana Buddhists to be the only Indian Buddhists. Well , I don't want to get into any more debate about Navayana and needlessly anti-Hindu beliefs and oaths of Ambedkar which show a lack of understanding or awareness of the Mahayana Sutras and Dharanis.

After that all deities and God assembled and blessed him with boons and gifts. The mace he carries is Kaumoudiki, the mace of Bhagwan Vishnu. Yes, some consider that Lord Hanuman is incarnation of Lord Shiva. Lord Krishna mentioned once that ‘Among the warriors, I am the Rama’. Indicating how great Lord Rama as warrior - invincible, undefeated, it is well accepted that arrow released by Lord Rama can destroy all three worlds & entire universe & can recreate ALL back into existence. Lord Hanuman is incredible too & undefeated. Few points in Ramayana 1. When Lord Rama, Laxmana & vanar sena reach the shore and they face the sea. Lord Rama politely asks/prays Lord Sagar(Sea God) to show some path to go forward… Lord Sagar initially does not respond. Here Lord Rama gets little angry(showing that he is normal human(with all kinds of emotions- but always controlling them, Lord Vishnu in human avatar) & says ‘hey Sagar dev if you don’t cooperate then my arrow will dry out the entire ocean’ then Sagar Dev shows up & suggests to use stones with Sree Ram written on them so that they can float on water. Such is the power of Lord Ram. 2. It is well known that Even all other Gods can’t survive a single arrow released by Lord Ram. 3. Lord Ram got taught about ALL astras/weapons by his teachers, he can bring out any astra at any time. 4. Lord Ram mostly known as Kodanda Ram meaning Ram with bow & arrow, it doesn’t mean Ram is not good with other weapons. Ram is the BEST with other weapons too. 5. One story tells Once Lord Hanuman fought against Lord Ram , surprising one!!! - Plot - when Lord Ram back from exile & ruling the kingdom a demon enters Lord Ram kingdom & destroying some cities/villages etc… then Yayati(a immense Lord Ram devotee) takes things into his own hands & kills the demon which took a female ordinary human form by then & reached Vishwamitra sage for help when the arrow released by Yayati is about to hit her . Vishwamitra not knowing what happened promises to protect her but the arrow strikes her within few seconds & the demon dies. Vishwamitra gets furious & goes to Lord Ram - explains his version of truth & demands that Yayati must punished accordingly (for killing a normal woman, but infact she is a demon) . As Lord Ram is obedient to his teachers promises to punish Yayati (even though Ram is surprised that Yayati killed an innocent women) , Ram thought that when his own teacher said something then that must be true. Ram knows that Yayati is a great devotee of him. Yayati seeks Hanuman help, not fully knowing what happened Hanuman promises to safeguard Yayati at any cost, Hanuman was in a little hurry . Then Narad enters & explains the whole situation that Lord Ram himself ordered to get Yayati killed. Hanuman grieves that now he must fight against his own Lord. Hanuman already promised, so he can’t take back. Lord Ram already promised to Viswamitra so Lord Ram can’t take back too. After a series of events, finally Lord Ram himself gets into the scene to punish Yayati but Lord Hanuman interferes. A long debate happens between the two, mostly Hanuman being humble to Lord Ram. Lord Ram finally says no need of any more arguments either you surrender him to me or fight against me. Then Hanuman says ‘Rama, I can’t fight against you., we can do one thing - kill me & take Yayati’ so that no ones promise is broken(Hanuman promise is to protect Yayati as long as he is alive) . But Ram says it is against Dharma to attack someone who doesn’t have a weapon (at this time Hanuman doesn’t have any visible weapon, Gadha etc) . Hanuman says I am never unarmed, Sree Ram name chanting itself is the greatest weapon I have. Lord Ram strikes with Ram baan(arrow undefeated, cannot be defeated, indestructible ) , Lord Hanuman starts chanting Sree Ram name… that sounds itself becomes an arrow & these arrows strike against each other . At this point entire universe is with chaos , on earth volcano erruptions, oceans dying, cyclones, earthquakes etc., everything is getting destroyed. Between the two arrows - Ram baan & Ram name - none of them is gaining advantage over the other. Both are EQUALLY powerful. It seemed like that it would go on forever until entire universe is destroyed. Lord Shiva & Brahma interfere here & ask both of them to stop. Hanuman stops chanting , Shiva explains the whole situation to Lord Ram that Yayati killed a demon who disguised like an ordinary woman. And that this whole thing is actually a divine play. Ram baan is unstoppable so Shiva with his powers redirects it & it keeps roaming all the time in the nature & can kill bad forces. Vishwamitra also reaches there & learns about the actual truth. So everything is good now, Vishwamitra asks Rama to forgive Yayati as he complained on the basis that at that point in time he is unaware of the full truth. Rama agrees. Rama has not broken his promise here because the promise happened on the condition that Yayati committed a wrong doing. During War in Ramayana, when Meghnath strikes Laxman & Laxman becomes unconscious Lord Ram is worried, Hanuman must go to Himalayas & get sanjeevini before the sunrise, Hanuman doesn’t have much knowledge on the herbs so he decides to bring entire mountain… the mountain glows with so much light that it looks like a moving Sun when Hanuman is carrying. Lord Ram thinks that the Sun is rising(seeing The glowing mountain) & Ram decides to take down even the Sun to protect his brother Laxman(Laxman should get Sanjeevini before Sunrise) (such is the power of Lord Ram) when Ram about to take an arrow Jambavanth tells Ram that it is not Sun but mountain being carried by Hanuman. Only Ram name(devotion) can match Ram’s arrows … nothing more powerful than these 2.

I may be wrong but brother Rojer and sister Sabine has been into hinduism for quite a while... So instead of watching such descriptive videos, it wud be more helpful to watch about their leelas, story and such... Like we will never understand Shri Hari (Vishnu) from descriptive video but we will know him more from Hari Katha (Story of hari)... Hanuman ji is not Monkey , He is called as "Vanara" , "Vanara" means Van- nara , persons who lived in forest , so probably they were forest dwelling tribes who may adopted attire like Monkey , as even today we see Tribal People take diffn attire to mix in nature where they lives , so he is Vanara , nowhere in Ramayan he referred as "MARKAT" which sanskrit word for Monkey , Shree Ram's army was called as Army of Vanara so he is not monkey but person from forest dwelling tribe
