“விசுவாசத்தினாலே ஆபிரகாம் …அழைக்கப்பட்டபோது, கீழ்ப்படிந்து, தான் போகும் இடம் இன்னதென்று அறியாமல் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்” (எபி. 11:8). மோசேவுக்கு முன்பதாக ஆபிரகாம் என்னும் முற்பிதாவானவர் கர்த்தராகிய தேவனை அவர் அறிந்திருந்தார் தேவனோடு பேசியிருந்தார் கர்த்தரே அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு தேசம் தருவதாக வாக்குத்தத்தம் பண்ணியிருக்கிறார் மோசே செய்த பணியைத் தொடர்ந்து செய்வதற்காக யோசுவாவைப் பெலப்படுத்தும் தேவன், தாம் மோசேக்கு கொடுத்த வாக்குத் தத்தத்தையும் அவருக்குச் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகிறார். “நான் மோசேக்குச் சொன்னபடி உங்கள் காலடி மிதிக்கும் எவ்விடத்தையும் உங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தேன். வனாந்தரமும் இந்த லீபனோனும் தொடங்கி ஐபிராத்து நதியான பெரிய நதி மட்டுமுள்ள ஏத்தியரின் தேசம் அனைத்தும், சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்கிற திசையான பெரிய சமுத்திரம்வரைக்கும் உங்கள் எல்லையாயிருக்கும்” (யோசுவா 1:3-4). தேவன் மோசேக்கு கொடுத்த வாக்குத்தத்தம் ஆரம்பத்தில் இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களின் தகப்பனான ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. தேவன் ஆபிரகாமிடம் அவனுடைய சந்ததிக்கு ஒரு தேசத்தைக் கொடுப்பதாக வாக்களித்ததோடு (ஆதி.12:2-3,13:15), அதனுடைய எல்லைகளையும் குறிப்பிட்டுச் சொல்லியிருந்தார் (ஆதி.17:19-21). பிற்காலத்தில் ஆபிரகாமின் சந்ததியாரிடமும் தேவன் இவ்வாக்குத்தத்தத்தை உறுதிப்படுத்தியிருந்தார் (ஆதி.26:3-5, 28:13). இவ்வாக்குத்தத்தம் நிறைவேறும் காலம் வந்தபோது மோசேயிடம் இதை நிறைவேற்றும் பணியைத் தேவன் ஒப்படைத்திருந்தார் (யாத்.1:3). ஆனாலும், மோசே ஒரு சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தைக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமற் போனதினால், அவரால் வாக்குத்தத்த பூமிக்குள் செல்லமுடியாமற் போய்விட்டது (எண்.20:6-12, உபா.1:37, 3:26). இதனால், மோசே மரணமடைந்த பின்னர் யோசுவாவிடம் இப்பணியை ஒப்படைக்கும் தேவன், மோசேக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட வாக்குத்தத்தத்தை அவருக்குச் சுட்டிக்காட்டுவதோடு வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட தேசத்தை அவருக்குக் கொடுப்பதாக உறுதியளிக்கின்றார். மோசேக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட வாக்குத்தத் தத்தைத் தேவன் யோசுவாவுக்குச் சுட்டிக்காட்டும்போது, “நான் மோசேக்குச் சொன்னபடி உங்கள் காலடி மிதிக்கும் எவ்விடத்தையும் உங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தேன்” (யோசுவா 1:3) என்று குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். தேவனுடைய கூற்று இறந்தகாலத்தில் இருப்பதை நாம் கருத்திற் கொள்ள வேண்டியது அவசியம். அதாவது, “கொடுப்பேன்” என்று கூறாமல் “கொடுத்தேன்”என்று கூறுகின்றார். ஏனென்றால், “தேவனைப் பொறுத்தவரை அவர் ஏற்கனவே அத் தேசத்தை இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களுக்கு கொடுத்துவிட்டார். இப்பொழுது அவர்கள் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டியவர்களாய் இருந்தனர்”. இதனால்தான், வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட தேசத்தில் யோசுவாவின் காலடி மிதிக்கும் எவ்விடத்தையும், அதாவது, அத்தேசத்தில் யோசுவா எவ்வளவு தூரம் செல்வாரோ அவ்வளவையும் தேவன் அவருக்குக் கொடுத்துள்ளதாகக் கூறினார். எனவே யோசுவாவின் பணி, வாக்களிக்கப்பட்டதை எடுத்துக்கொள்வதாகவே இருந்தது. இது யுத்தத்தின் மூலம் கைப்பற்றப்படவேண்டிய பிரதேசமாக இருந்தாலும், தேவன் யுத்தத்தில் யோசுவாவுக்கு வெற்றியைக் கொடுப்பவராக இருந்தார். இதைப்போலவே தேவன் நமக்கும் வேதாகமத்தில் பல வாக்குத்தத்தங்களைக் கொடுத்துள்ளார். இவையனைத்தும் “இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் ஆம் என்றும், அவருக்குள் ஆமென் என்றும் இருப்பதாக” வேதாகமம் கூறுகிறது (2கொரி.1:20). எனவே இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் இருக்கும் நாம், தேவனுடைய வாக்குத்தத்தங்கள் அனைத்தையும் சுவீகரித்துக்கொள்ளக் கூடியவர்களாகவே இருக்கின்றோம். நாம் எத்தனை வாக்குத்தத்தங்களை நமக்காக எடுத்துக்கொள்கின்றோமோ அத்தனையும் நம்முடையதாகும்
