people don't see a very important thing in paraguay. paraguay is running on 100% renewable. no energy imports. huge surplus as well. if there is war, imagine what happens to countries that import their energy from places that are far away.

@leviellis3970 what happens if the damn is blown? Excuse so many questions
@levi39709 ай бұрын
@@MODEZMW I really don't know how much alternative infrastructure there is to compensate for it. What i do know is that in times of war, energy sources are always a source of drama. Nuclear plant damage, under water gas pipelines get blown up. Ships are attacked. Dams can be attacked. But damns can be protected and repaired. You can't protect a submarine gas pipeline.
@helena_aña9 ай бұрын
@@levi3970 We have three dams right now, of those we use two, the energy we don't use we export; there are plans to build other 20+ smaller dams so we can sell more energy to our neighbors, and also invest in solar farms. The biggest binational dam is protected by Brasil and all our economies/lives (Mercosur) are pretty much integrated. A war escenario in our neighborhood could only come from an extra continental entity, and not having sea coast is an advantage for us in this case.

Good stuff. Can you talk about cost of and laws related to importing belongings. I am interested in Panamá too but i hear it's expensive shipping and importing there from the States. In Paraguay for instance, have you heard of anyone shipping a 10' or 20' container loaded with personal possessions? Any insight into the cost?

very nice country , if you are coming from eu-us and have existing income. it is true, one of the chepest countries in Americas, though most of countries in Asia are same of even lower. but you need to have a savings or other foreign income+realistically to get a decent job, if you are a foreigner outside of neighbouring countries, is not possible. salaries are also very low. only thing which is expencive, is bying real estate in Asuncion, the prices are very high compared to the quality of flats you are getting. rental is better option for sure.

Being retired in the USA, availability of health care is important. Can you tell us about availability of hospitals in the smaller towns.
@NomadElite6 ай бұрын
Hospitals exist in Paraguay's smaller cities, but healthcare isn't as sophisticated as in Western Europe and North America.
@brunoactis11043 ай бұрын
I actually am from a small town in Paraguay. It's incredibly peaceful and safe, but i'd advise you not to come anyway. Hospitals aren't very good, most people here who need quality attention end up going to the capital, and it's a 5 hour drive. To put it mildly, it's not ideal if you have an emergency. But the peacefulness, quiet and safety could make it up, depends on your health and priorities.
