Oh yes, she is a huge deal in the scene. She especially has a huge fandom outside Korea as well. She's quite a character. Started off as a little bit of a culture shock amongst Koreans because she's just unapologetically being herself 24/7 (and also because she grew up in the US so she does surprising things like wearing revealing clothes, etc.) But after some time, the general public has gotten used to her and has become an actual icon. She has banger music and her songs are always charting well.

She just finished her European Tour. I've been at her concert last sunday, here in Germany! It was awesome! She was always talking to the crowd between her performances. She is such a sweetheart. I think I did mention Jessi on one of your first Black Pink vids. Haha. You should check out her song "Who Dat B" A couple others that feature other rappers are her song "DRIP" It features J-Park who is an incredible korean rapper. Her other song called "WET" features another korean rapper named FLOWSIK. There is so much variety and talent in the korean music scene. You have seen very, VERY, little of the talent in Korea. Keep expanding your knowledge by checking out different groups and solo artists. You won't regret it!

*please read from beginning to end, i swear it's worth it, I'm just excited you finally discovered Jessi* Jessi is Korean but was born in New York, raised in New Jersey. Jessi was already in the industry before the 2010s. She didn't really took off. Koreans, who are typically conservative, weren't too fond of Jessi's blunt attitude. But don't let that mislead you, she's actually one of the nicest people in the Korean music industry. You can tell with other people's vlogs of hers that she takes care of her staff SERIOUSLY, even defending them when other people wrong them. It's interesting because she actually started/debuted as a vocalist. She was heavy into choir when she lived in the States. She only got big recently after she joined the Korean female rapper tv show "Unpretty Rapstar" in 2015 and while she finished 2nd place, she was easily the standout contestant. It's fascinating that new fans now know her for her rapping, when she herself has said she doesn't really consider herself a rapper, and interestingly, only started getting into rapping when she joined Unpretty Rapstar in 2015. Now, she's easily one of Korea's standout female soloists. While BLACKPINK is still the biggest female act from Korea today (by a huge margin still), Jessi is comfortable where she's at now. Now that she has finally found her style and sound. Fun fact, she was signed under Psy's label (yes THAT Psy) "PNation" from 2019-2022. SO yes even the song you're hearing right now "Zoom" was supervised by Psy himself. She and Psy have such an adorable sibling dynamic despite him being the CEO 😅 They are known to be close and that Psy's label offers FAR MORE creative freedom for their artists than the big labels (which is also why PSY left YG ENTERTAINMENT, BLACKPINKs label) That is why it shocked many that Jessi left PNation just a few weeks ago. A lot of us were speculating but finally she addressed the whole thing saying she's been grateful for Psy and PNation, and that the decision to not renew her contract was amicable. She said she wanted to pursue more things with her career, hinting that she could establish her own label, just like Psy did. I'm so happy you're finally listening to her. I mean yeah of course Jessi isn't as recommended when the other contenders are BLACKPINK and BTS, but trust me among vocalists she's really respected now. After more than a decade of Koreans snubbing her, they finally acknowledge and respect her as an artist. As for international appeal, she always had and still has it. It's just that because she wasn't as popular before, she isn't as marketed more. The only Jessie I know of is Jessie J, who has an incredible voice. Nothing like this winey voice, that isn't for me. I hate to say it, but I'm afraid that most of the views come from her showing off her body rather than her rapping or singing abilities, or her great wordplays.
