The issue is not about Peter's true love, it's about the writers hating the concept of him settling down with one woman, because that would make him progress as a character, and the writers and directors abhor the idea of Peter not being broke and single. And because of that, *ANY RELATIONSHIP PETER STARTS WILL EVENTUALLY CRUMBLE.* All three of them work great with Parker. I'm a MJ stan, but Gwen is his first love and I deeply respect that. She will always have a spot in Peter's heart, and even MJ recognizes that, because MJ and Gwen were friends too. And Felicia has that awesome dynamic with him, not too far from Batman and Catwoman, and I would love to see them together too. But the writers, and more importantly, the directors at Marvel Comics don't want to. So they force the relationships to break. Gwen's legacy was tarnished and torn up for the sake of cheap drama, because her relationship with Peter was still very alive in the fandom. Then Peter got married to MJ, they pulled OMD. But Peter and MJ were together for so long in the comics that it is nigh impossible to reconcile this. So they gotta throw MJ's reputation in the trash too. Same for Felicia, every time she and Peter get into a more meaningful relationship, SOMETHING happens that separates them. I'll repeat, the issue is not the true love, it's that Peter isn't allowed to have one to begin with!

You're probably saying that because of the TASM movies lmao in the comics Gwen hated Spider-Man and would have dumped Peter if she knew because she blamed Spidey for her dad's death which caused Peter a lot of stress. Felicia is incredibly toxic because she doesn't love Peter she only loves Spider-Man we can see this in multiple occasions like when in the comics while they are hooking up she tells him to keep the mask on. This is why they never work out she only loves 1/2 of Peter. Gwen only loves Peter and Felicia only loves Spider-Man. MJ truly loves Peter and tolerates Spider-Man, She loved him before she knew he was Spidey and loved him after and has begged him to stop being Spider-Man in order to be with her because she can't stand the idea of Peter dying or something else happening to him. I get that you probably have a warped understanding of MJ because she's incredibly annoying in the Raimi movies, all right in the insomniac games and MCU MJ is barely even MJ so you prefer his other love interests but MJ Is the objectively best love interest and is why Peter and MJ are the most iconic comic book couple. @@solen5529 If you have ever read "The Evil that Men do", it really shows Felica's growth as a person and the impact Peter had in her life and how much she regrets screwing it up. You see a version of her the truly appreciates him as a whole person and not just the mask. And she doesn't ask him to be something he's not. which removes the usual internal conflict he always has. She would be a perfect supportive partner for him and it would be a very good case for character growth. If only they'd stay the course like in a What if story or an alternative like Renew your Vows.

The best one in my opinion was Chat. She’s probably that good because those line of comics were relatively under the radar / not selling enough. If it had gone on long enough, she would probably be ruined by the editors. They perfectly understood each other, Pete doesn’t downplay her abilities, she helps out it anyway possible. However it feels like I’m clinging to the past with such a great pair.

Stan Lee said it himself that he hated Gwen Stacy being killed off. One thing that I've always found so great about Gwen and Peter over MJ or Black Cat in the comics is that Gwen fell in love with Peter, MJ, and Black Cat fell in love with Spider-Man. Now, in Raimi's movies, MJ is sort of an amalgamation of Comic Book MJ and Gwen, and flat out made Peter use Gwen in the 3rd installment. For any of those who haven't read "Spider-Man: Blue". You need to, it's the perfect love letter to the underappreciated Gwen Stacy, Peter's true love. For had it not been for Gwen's death MJ would've never been in the picture

Prior to this, however, MJ and Peter were just friends, and she had zero interest in being in a relationship with him. MJ and Peter even went out prior to Peter and Gwen did. The relationship wasn't good for either party. Gwen, however, had a crush on Peter for who he was as Peter, before Spider-Man was even a thing.

Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's first recreated love, and it was Stan Lee's original intent for Peter and Gwen to get married had Gerry Conway not written "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" while Stan Lee was on vacation. I've always seen Gwen as the "good girl" trope done right and for a Mary-Sue protagonist like Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy would've been the perfect love interest for him. I think that George Stacy gradually figuring out Spider-Man's identity and then trusting him to keep Gwen safe after his death proves that Gwen would've been Peter's perfect match. There's even a comic when Mary Jane admits that she plays catch up to Gwen.

No I don't believe that. The Night Gwen Stacy Died forever changed comics. It had such a pivotal influence on the comic industry that I refuse to believe it was done out of some petty impulse by Conway. No not at all. People don't seem to realize this, but Comic book stories were extremely regulated and limited by in the 50s and 60s. Comic book writers actually couldn't write or show death back then. Everything always had to be episodic. Eventually by the late 60s and early 70s, those regulations loosened up. What Gerry Conway did was so big, that it essentially jump-started the Bronze Age of Comics. This wasn't something Conway could just do on a whim. Conway had to have major editorial oversight to proceed into this territory. Stan Lee was a showman and had a repeated history of exaggerating.

Here's the thing about how Gwen, Black Cat, and MJ are written. Gwen loves Peter but hates Spider-Man, black cat loves the spider but can't bring herself to love the man beneath the mask, and finally MJ when written correctly shows that even with the difficulties that Peter being Spider-Man brings she wouldn't force him to give it up because of the guilt of letting others die for his happiness when in his perspective he could have done something about it.

I guess it's hard for me to feel the same way since Spider-Man is a huge part of who Peter is and he pretty much never gives Gwen the chance to know that side of himself, so their bond feels kind of lacking. Yes, there are wholesome times but not enough depth past the surface level. Part of what got me to love Peter and MJ was how much they came to really know each other over the years and be there for each other during the worst and most wholesome times in their lives.

I have to say Gwen as a character is pretty boring, don't get me wrong she was a good girlfriend and a character that was very similar to Peter and that's it. MJ to me is way better because if we look the relationship close Peter and MJ are opposites MJ is model, actress, Peter is a Photographer, teacher, scientist. They don't have to much in common and still find things to do as a couple, i get many people love Emma performance as Gwen stacy but in comics MJ has way to much development in comparation of Gwen and as a couple of Peter.

The only reason MJ exists as Peter's primary love interest is specifically BECAUSE Gwen and Peter were objectively horrible together in the comics to the point that she got overshadowed by MJ. The only good Gwen and Peter is the amazing Spider-Man films and that's mainly due to the chemistry between Andrew and Emma carrying the film on their backs (they were dating at the time) and the fact that movie Gwen is basically just comics MJ with blonde hair in terms of personality compared to how she actually was.

For Black Cat, it's interesting because she's essentially the best side chick you could have. I think if Black Cat would stop being a criminal that she would be the perfect love interest since she can take of herself in most cases. It's just that having Black Cat be Spider-Man's primary love interest might be a bit uncertain because if Felica broke up with Peter because they weren't toxic enough, that tells me that Felica might want to keep her option open. Then you start to remember why she's just a side chick, I think Felcia works best in Spider-Man's life as "the bad girl" something that you want, but you know you don't need.

Mary Jane was never promiscuous, just depicted as outgoing and carefree, popular girl at school type of thing, but that was always a facade she put on to hide the pain she held from an abusive household mainly caused by her father. I say that the relationship with black cat is really the only avenue at this point... The success of ultimate Spider-Man proves at last without a shadow of a doubt that we (the fans) want Peter aka spider-man to get married, settle down, and stay that way But on earth 616 Mary Jane just isn't the person she could have been. Earth 616 mary jane just became a entirely different person than the Mary Jane from the new ultimate universe due to having entirely different experiences past a certain point. If they want earth 616 Spider-Man to stay relevant they need to try to establish that same kinda life for him and make a company policy that spider-man keeps his marriage with whoever he ends up with under any and all circumstances... But earth 616 Pete just can't end up with his MJ because she has been ruined as a character, the best, and perhaps only option, is black cat... If black cat needs that excitement, then there are ways to write that in, maybe it could be like a game, her still trying to corrupt him even though they are married, and he always tries to resist the corruption, but they both agree that either way they stay married regardless. Maybe part of the agreement could be that if she manages to get something he considers immortal (just to clarify immortal by the standards of when they get married she is trying to corrupt him after all) past his moral compass she could then cash that in to go steal something without him trying to stop her or telling someone else who would. Pete could agree on with his train of thought being "that will never happen, she won't manage to corrupt me, and i get her as my wife". Maybe they could have it as some kinda magical marriage contract, with these details included in a way that both of them are happy with. that way neither of them CAN break it, because it isn't even possible. after all this is black cat aka Felicia Hardy we are talking about...

Honestly, the best spider-man love interest is Sophia Sanduval, also known as Chat from 2005 series, "Marvel adventures spider man", issues 53 to 61. (Previous issues are from different author and irrelevant to the story). No dying due to reminder of how physics work, sheer empty ungratefulness and drama, ,deals with literal satan or fucking Paul. Just wholesomeness.... That was of course stopped from continuing.

Great video. This is what I think about the 3 loves of Spider-Man: 1. Gwen Stacy was killed off because Marvel and the fans thought she was too boring. I started reading "TASM" back in 1969. As the video showed, Gwen was killed off in "TASM #121, June 1973, the dates listed are the cover dates, not the release dates,, over 51 years ago. Stan Lee wanted her character to continue to be with Peter, but he was overruled. (I call the Silver and Bronze Age comics "TASM" not "ASM".) Gwen and Peter's relationship was becoming tedious because he couldn't tell her he was Spider-Man. 2. MJ really has two story arcs with Peter. The 1st is from "TASM # 122" to (July 1973) "TASM 183" (August 1978) where she rejects Peter's 1st Marriage Proposal. After this issue, she only appears infrequently like in "TASM # 188" (January 1979). MJ is barely in Spider-Man comics like "TASM" from that point. 3. Felica Hardy The Black Cat is introduced in "TASM # 194" (July 1979, one month after I graduated High School) and becomes his love interest until "Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #100" (March 1985) where they break up because Felicia got her powers from the Kingpin. Complicating the situation, back then, Felciai accepted Spider-Man, but not Peter Parker. 4. The Return of MJ. MJ returns in "TASM # 241" (June 1983). As the video states regarding the current state of the "ASM" comic, MJ should go away for a couple of years: however, Marvel already has done that and brought MJ back to eventually marry Peter. There are the iconic issues "TASM # 257" (October 1984) and "TASM # 258 (November 1984) where MJ tells Peter she has known he's Spider-Man for years It's retconned in the "Untold Tales of Spider_mMan # 16" (December 1996) where MJ sees him come out of his window when he 1st got his powers), and then the next issue, the temporary triangle of Peter, MJ, and Felicia starts when Felicia meets MJ for the 1st time. I thought at the end of "TASM" # 289" (June 1987), when Spidey leaves Felicia at his apartment, and the bottom of the page states the next issue "The Proposal", Peter was going to propose to Felicia. That never happened because there was a story arc in "PPTSS # 123" (February 1987) to "PPTSS #129" (August 1987) where Felcicia was plotting revenge on Spider-Man with the Foreigner because of their breakup. At the end of the story arc, Felicia goes away again and professes her love for Spider-Man, and Peter decides he had enough of this and proposes to MJ in "TASM # 290" (July 1987). MJ accepts in "TASM #292" (September 1987). Peter and MJ marry in "TASM Annual # 21" (Also September 1987). I'm a huge SpiderCat fan too as I'm a BatCat fan. Back then when MJ and Peter got married I was happy Peter married MJ, but now when I look back, it felt kind of rushed. Marvel seemed to be leading towards Peter marrying Felicia, then all of a sudden switched back to MJ. IMO, Marvel has done nothing new in the last 17 years from "OMD/BND" in 2007. "ASM" is a horrible comic and I agree with the comic lads regarding how you continue to buy this comic when the story arcs are dreadful and cringe. MJ should go away and never become Peter's love interest again. That time is over and all these meaningless attempts to get them back together are extremely annoying. Who knows what the next writers Kelly and Ireland are going to do to Spider-man with their 10-issue arc the "8 Death of Spider-Man" later this year. I'm also a Super Wonder fan believing Superman and Wonder Woman should be together as they were for a short time in DC's "The New 52". This way Superman doesn't have to worry about Lois. Like MJ, I think Lois Lane had her timer and it's time to pair Superman with Wonder Woman again. I know most DC fans don't like this pairing as I think most Marvel fans don't like Felicia with Peter. I think it's the best direction for "ASM", but what do I know. We'll have to wait and see what Marvel decides to do with Peter Parker/Spider-Man when the new writers come onboard.

I don't read comics but iv seen the movies and different shows. I guess that's love sometimes from both sides. i think gwen's is always portrayed as the healthiest but mj is always the iconic duo and that's just always the formula to the hero peter he's always the most relatable and in the end goes down the path of becoming a true hero even if he starts out like one of us. He's not a selfless person and he still does all this. it's what makes him one of the few hero's everyone wants to keep up with.

I think its a split as MJ (the older versions of MJ) / Not dead Gwen is the love of the normal side of Peter and Black Cat is the love of the Spiderman side of Peter. Its weird though as MJ is the one that springs to mind at first when I think of Peter's Girlfriend. Black Cat I kind of feel is the better one since she's a partner that can actually understand both halves of Peter, and they can actually kind of push each other into a better version of each other.

Peter could easily be happy with either Mary Jane or Black Cat. Gwen is dead, move on it's never going to happen. However, in either case, at this point it's going to take a change in character, either Mary Jane is going to need to deal with her actions and try to change. And it would be the same for Black Cat owning up to her own faults and changing. Right now neither of them really work as Peter's girl friend or wife. And we all know who fault that it, the writers, who flip the script ever time Peter get close being in a stable relationship.

To me the best way to go about Peter's relationships is to of course start with Gwen. Gwen should be an important figure in Peter's life, his first true love. Then after her death, like in the original comics have Mary Jane step up and mature from her party gal persona, and become a stable rock of support in Peter's life. Black cat and Spiderman fool around a bit here and there, but never really get serious. My head cannon being peter tried to make a move, but Felicia refused due to not being able to comprehend a relationship with the regular guy underneath the mask. A choice she later regrets as Peter and MJ get married, however she still makes the effort to get to know Peter and becomes somewhat of a sister figure to him. Leaving us off with Peter and Mary Jane Happily married, Gwen gone but never forgotten, and black cat being just a genuinely good friend. If Peter and MJ have kids, I can definitely see Felicia being like a cool aunt to them. But hey, this is just my personal preference.
