Seems like he's going to need some time to develop, and I think the Celtics are the right team to do that, given that Kyrie and Al are leaving. He'll probably play in the G-league for now though. I hope he can utilise his talent in the future.

He'll definitely need time to develop. He's not ready for an NBA floor yet. His Free Throw shooting is horrible and he doesn't seem to have any offensive game. He's no longer raw. Didn't start playing until 16, but is a hard worker and perfectionist who's taken his raw athleticism, reflexes, and size to NBA-ready. NBA teams he worked out with in 2017 told him what he needed to do to succeed in the league, and he took it to heart. He now has a full range of moves in the post, including drop step, an unstoppable hook, and a dunk so quick it's hard to do a hack-a-Shaq on him. He's dramatically improved his lateral mobility, court senses, passing, decision making, footwork, pic and roll, and avoiding fouls. His conditioning work let him go from 16 minutes a game as a frosh to playing up to 34 minutes in big games. His horrid free throw shooting this year followed shoulder surgery in 2018; by season end, he was swishing them through again. He was the most dominant college player on defense in two decades. In 2017, Tacko's UCF made it to the NIT semis because they were in the top 3 in FG% defense, 3-pt% defense and scoring defense despite being near the bottom nationally in steals, turnovers, and assists (i.e., it was ALL Tacko), as well as with only 6 scholarship players! Why tops in 3-pt% D? Because teammates could lock down the arc, knowing Tacko would stop anyone who drove by them (U. of Colorado didn't score a 2-pointer the first 17 minutes of the half)! Boston can do the same thing with Tacko and nullifty the Warriors-type offense. But what about the NBA zone and lane rules? Answer: the past 2 seasons, Tacko defended near the top of the key, so he's prepared to play NBA ball. But he doesn't have an outside shot. Fans have seen him in practice, and he has a great, soft shooting touch to develop so many other bigs. Ball handling and dribble drives? Google the workout videos of him. He once started a full court break (he can cover the court in 5 huge strides). Personality? Charismatic, emotional player who can play a crowd favorite on the parquet floor, big draw on the road, and global ratings boost the NBA desperately needs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5eYd62NnNCjh8k

Until now that is. :) And, as a bonus - just because they gave Tacko Falls that opportunity I'm gonna be a fan of the Celtics from now on.

Perfect fit for the him. I hear he had several offers, which is the reason for his delay in signing. Celtic fans may be in for a real treat. The NBA game has gotten kinda dull, like the old ABA. He's been into weight since as a freshman at UCF. He's hit 310 lbs. but lower it fir the Combine. He's strong and heavy - nobody can push him that easily. He's a FORCE in the lane. I'm inclined to believe he's gonna make it in the Celtics' main roster and be the starting center. I'd rather believe his coach of 3 years, Johnny Dawkins, thsn any one - he's gonna be a game changer and will excel in the NBA.
@DValeraEsq
@DValeraEsq 5 жыл бұрын
@Raiders Blackhole if you mean he has a jumpshot, no; he can add this though. But why would he complicate his game when he can make a dribble or two to the basket and dunk or hook a shot? He needs guards who can set him up, not ball dominant ones like Kyrie. He will bring classic center plays and low post moves back in the NBA. Big men belong in the shaded lane - they battle it out there - not in the 3 point field. Why attempt a 3 pt. shot when a higher percentage 2 pt dunk or hook shot from 5 ft is easier to do? He is a rim protector as he has shown during his college career. He's strong. He will easily shut down Giannis or Embiid, anybody shorter than him by half a foot. Tacko will excel in the NBA, said his coach of 3 yrs, Johnny Dawkins, a former NBA star himself. Olajuwon is impressed with him as a 16 yr old, saying he's "the next big thing." Jabbar has been mentoring him for the last 2 years. These former NBA centers, now legends, definitely saw something. Could they be wrong?

I think 3 things. One if anyone can coach him up and learn to use him even if just as a change of pace player for 10 to 20 minutes a game down the line it is Brad and his staff. Two after seeing what he did against Duke and blocking players who are 10x better athletes and played basketball for far far longer he has me intrigued. An 3rd an last, I feel bad for him as 10 or 20 or 30 years ago this kid is a lottery pick and would be the next Mark Eaton, Manute Bol or such such big and make a lot of money. As the game is more fluid and 3 point shot focused he may simply lack the quickness on switch D having said all that I am glad we got him, and i hope we keep him for a year or two to see if he can become a 10 to 20 minute rim protector game changer bench player.

A lot of Tacko's freshman issues were lack of court sense from only playing the game 3 yrs. So he'd hesitate or make poor reads and ill-advised decisions. But he's very mobile, has quick reactions, and soft hands. Most super-bigs aren't anywhere near as fluid. After attending all his home games for 4 yrs, I was stunned how much he's improved since the NCAA tourney game against Duke in March. I went to California to work with conditioning coach. And he's using his hook shot much more and farther from the basket -- and yet it's now automatic. And did you see his improved pick and roll and drop step? His balance, footwork, and patience dramatically better. Such a hard worker!

Could be one of the keys in Boston's rebuilding effort. A real team player who can also take control of game by scoring and freeing up teammates for open shots. Also, takes opponents out of their offense and force them to be one-dimensional 3-pt shooters.

He’s a project. He’ll never be a great offensive talent in the NBA. But if they can develop him to be a decent free throw shooter, he should easily average a double-double, and be a top 10 player in Blocked shots. And that’s worth the risk.

Free throw liability, thats nothing new. I would play him. Let some idiot team hack him until you all get into the penalty and opposing players are now in foul trouble.
