Tadao Ando designed a new addition to a museum near my house in Massachusetts. Most observers agree that he ruined the museum. The addition was tremendously expensive with lots of wasted space and nonsensical concepts, like cafe windows that face a blank concrete wall rather than the beautiful New England countryside. The original museum in the neoclassical style, built in the 1950s, is vastly better.

Spot on. Have visited many Ando buildings over the years, and his concrete is beautiful concept in my eyes were far less interesting than the timber constructions of his culture. This can be shown by a villa by Ando and a villa by Kuma, the later adopts the landscape while Ando blocks it.

I love Ando's work. However, I also love Luis Barragon. There are some stylistic parallels, but Barragon is from Mexico so his work is much more colorful. If you don't know him, look for his work.
