We all like Gravity Falls, Amphibia, The Owl House, and many shows like it partly because of their protagonists. But you can't have a great protagonist without an excellent antagonist, and these three shows have that covered with Bill Cipher, Darcy/The Core, and Belos. But among these three, who is the best "final boss" villain?

The Core should’ve been built up a bit more. Like aside from it taking over Marcy’s body and it’s effect on Andreas I didn’t have much investment in it as a Villian. Belos works so well because of his hero complex and his effect as a manipulator. How broke Luz and made her question her own purpose and resent her own existence. He mentally broke her. And the fact that he managed to trick the people of the boiling isle into committing a genocide against themselves. And Bill Cypher works so well as an underlying threat. He’s always watching. He feels like a lovecraftian threat. A being whose mere presence is mystery and uncertainty. He’s Madness and chaos in its purest form. But he’s also the devil on your shoulder offering up your wildest dreams for his own benefit. That’s in my mind what makes him the best of the three. Belos at the end of the day is the worst of humanity. Bill Cypher is the worst of existence.

One thing that isn't really pointed out a lot is how before these villains are introduced, the show already had a 'main' villain, (Lil Gideon, Captain Grime and Lillith) but once the true threat shows up (Bill Cipher, The Core and Belos), they join the heroes and become more heroic and this trend has been happening a lot in animated shows recently, Adventure Time (The Ice King gets replaced by the Lich) Steven Universe (Jasper and Peridot get replaced by The Diamonds) Star vs the Forces of Evil (Ludo gets replaced by Toffee, ok this one might be an exception) and Hilda (Erik Ahlberg gets replaced by the Mountain King) I'm sure theirs more examples, those are the ones I can immediately think off.

I think Bellows takes the lead in general because people like him does exist While one is pure evil, the other has an old ideology about conquering... but it takes a system and many people and it gets messy in this bloody system While Belos, is the only person pulling string. Having an ideology that's been challenged and refuses to change... the face of all everything he has done And done so much evil, and it was a mask person... any human could do the same like him And it hits different, while also having another said human putting down a new path and change. . . It also depends on the perspective you are taking for what a 'good' villain is. From a writing perspective, then *Objectively*, Belos is by far the best of the three., Serves as a good obstacle for the hero to overcome and has a presence throughout the story. Either represents the antithesis of the stories main themes or is the embodiment of those themes (Understanding vs Bigotry) Is only defeated once the protagonist has overcome their internal flaws and grown as a person thus embodying the main theme of the series. And leaves enough of an impact to be memorable and is an irreplaceable part of the story. There are of course other facets but over all, from a purely writing standpoint, Belos checks off all the Boxes for a GREAT villain. Bill and the Core all lack something in one or more of the categories, be it thematic relation or not having enough impact for the story to feel like it benefited much from their inclusion.

Bill was much more dangerous, but Belos offered the better narrative, this was a human, that got his hands on power, and grew it into the greatest power of his reality (i have not seen any hints of gravity falls connecting to the owl house/amphibia earth), his goal was not super immense by comparison, but despite having all the power he also never really needed it. everything he achieved was through deceit, coercion or charm, getting his own hands dirty was always just the last resort, if he hadn't tossed Kikimora, of all beings, there wouldn't actually have been any stopping him, not before it would be too late anyways.

While Bill Cipher is the utmost classic Modern Disney Villain, who has definitely earned his Spot as one of the best villains in animation. The buildup, his entertaining chaotic character and near Villain Victory made him very memorable to me. While Darcy/The Core was the most thematic villain and the antithesis of Amphibia’s central theme of change plus one of the best Villain designs that I’ve seen in a Long Time. But yeah as cool as it looks due to lack of screentime and lack of buildup or presence in the series makes him the least memorable villain. But Belos was certainly the most charismatic villain/character with depth and quite the interesting origin that’s in a way kinda tragic but at the end he’s an unsympathetic monster. I’d go so far to Say Belos is probably Modern Disney’s greatest villain on par with Judge Claude Frollo, and Death the Wolf from Puss in Boots Last Wish. But the Core and Belos BOTH managed to Kill the protagonist/heroine in their respective worlds (before both were resurrected by their worlds Gods, or Prophecies plot armor.

Bill’s actual backstory is that he most likely uses his destructive powers as a fun little distraction from the fact he accidentally destroyed his dimension and family. He now has ptsd and does literally anything to not think about what he had done. Stopping Weirdmageddon was the equivalent of denying an alcoholic beer. Bill was mad because any second more of not causing absolute chaos means more time pondering over that dark past and voices of all he has killed.

Out of all three, I found Belos the best villain because of how different he is compared to Bill and the Core. With the Core, you know a shred of Marcy is shining through in terms of personality when as Darcy. With Bill, he balances himself with god level threats and getting a kick at seeing the shocked expression on your face. But with Belos? It's like Darth Vader walking into the room. A sense of dread runs down your spine, an ice cold look coming from the mask he peers in when staring at you. It's like you're in a realm where a real demon is coming for you if you get in his way. Furthermore, the fact that he's so realistic as a human and an emperor makes him all the more terrifying as he represents how strong a man's beliefs can be and how it can bring about their demise as well as drive them to the point where they themselves become the very thing they believe they aren't.

The Core was definitely hurt by a lack of screentime, but to me, I also think it was hurt by two other things: it was a bit too funny as Darcy, and it was introduced to Anne & Sasha much too late in the season. While funny moments don't necessarily hurt villains, (case in point: Big Jack Horner from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) they can if they undermine the intention of also being sinister and a legitimate threat to the heroes in those same interactions, at least if they were intended to be in the first place. Take Bill Cipher: he is indeed funny, but in more of a "[nervous laughter]" kind of way, like someone who thinks doing random acts of violence is akin to an improv comedy routine (case in point: deer teeth & have a screaming head), creating an air of dread as we understand he does not have the same sense of morality as humans, adding onto his Lovecraftian vibe. For the Core/Darcy, on the other hand, when it is funny it's more of "Marcy quirkiness but antagonistic," which doesn't produce the same reaction of "funny but also pretty messed up" that Bill had, reducing the impact of the Core's actually intimidating moments as a self-proclaimed deity with multiversal conquest ambitions, which admittedly make great use of Haley Tju's acting in producing a Marcy that was notably too cold, serious, and often maniacal to be that person. I feel like it could have worked if they had made it so that those quirks were more creepy and aligned with that detached & calculating side of Darcy, like they were a result of Marcy trying to break through in a way, causing the audience to question whether they should find this funny or deeply disturbing in an "I have no mouth and I must scream" sort of way, which would fit nicely with the scifi horror vibe the Core has going for it. In sum, the Core wavers a tad too much between "Marcy but malicious" funny moments and "your friend's not here right now" scary moments to be an effective villain at times for me. Second, the Core met Anne & Sasha in the episode right before All In. In my opinion, this happens much too late in the narrative of the show, and takes away from the impact that could've come from having Sasha & Anne realize that their friend is the host for a god-like being, which could have prompted deeper reflection by having the Core use this revelation to torment the girls, possibly claiming that Marcy was better as an assimilated mind compared to how Anne & Sasha treated her. There was great story potential that could've been gained from such an interaction & its effects, as well as showing that the Core is not just waiting around for the invasion to start, but actively makes itself an obstacle for the heroes, but unfortunately we didn't get that. I love the finale of Amphibia (how often is it that we get this kind of series finale from animated shows nowadays, rather than simply being canceled?), but this could've given the fight with the Core in "All In" a greater impact imo. Anyhow, that's my two cents. Also, it's amazing that Bill Cipher is going to be ten years old soon (Dreamscaperers, when he first debuted, came out July 12, 2013) and he's held up as arguably one of the most iconic Disney villains of the 2010s.

I think I haven’t encountered more unique villain that Bill really. He is unsatisfied with existence itself and the rules it follows, so what does he do - HE WANTS TO DESTROY IT, to reshape it into pure nonsense. He fist destroys his own dimension and as a being of another one, his powers in the third dimension allows him to do exactly that. I mean think about it, what is the first thing that Bill do when he arrives after trying for thousands of years- party, he spends the next few days making a party, which doesn’t make any sense until you realise that the whole reason why he does all of this is simply to be happy. The desire to not exist is something that everyone experience at some point in their life, but while for some people it last only seconds, for Bill it has lasted his entire life and he doesn’t want himself to not exist, he wants EXISTENCE AS A WHOLE to not exist which is a pretty interesting and unique motive. Also the fact that he has god like powers allows him to switch between hilarious and terrifying in a blink of an eye. And correct me if I’m wrong, but to be able to manipulate mater, reality and time gotta be the most OP power in all of fiction

While I love the Owl House and Amphibia, I remain a bigger Gravity Falls fan. So, that said -- I think you were right at the start of your video, saying that which villain you find "best" depends on the individual -- what you're looking for in a story, what resonates best with you. I agree with criticisms of the Core; it was formidable, but it didn't do that much for me, I guess? (Although, I found it kind of funny that you called it out for limited screentime, when Bill Cipher is only in 6 episodes of Gravity Falls, and several of those, he's only in a tiny bit of the eps. He really doesn't have that much screentime at all.) For Bill and Belos, though -- they were each the perfect villains for their series, and you very much get a different experience from watching them. Bill is huge, difficult to comprehend (in terms of his goals), chaotic, terrifying, and seemingly unstoppable because of how much power he has and how many tools he has in his arsenal (once he becomes corporeal). Belos is more scarily relatable -- both because he starts out as just a normal human guy, and because, as you said, his type of evil is very recognizable from our history and from our present. Both Bill's and Belos's defeats are very satisfying, but for different reasons. So, in conclusion, even though I'm still more devoted to GF, I can't disagree with you picking Belos! And, I do want to add one more thing about Belos versus Bill: the writing. Belos seems to have been meticulously planned from the beginning of the show. He has a deep back-story that is revealed over time, and the more we learn about him, the more disturbing he gets. (I would say that later-seasons Belos is MORE disturbing than first season, where he's just the masked Evil Emperor. He becomes more disturbing and scary once we know he's a human witch-hunter from the 1600s playing a long game out of essentially religious-fanatic motivations.) I think Dana Terrace and TOH's team did a phenomenal job on him. (Although, if you are more connected to TOH trivia, please do let me know if it's ever discussed that Belos wasn't originally meant to be the same as he turned out to be!) Meanwhile -- we now know that Bill, while included in the show from the start (as an image on the briefly-flashed end-card of the credits, and in various designs seen around the Shack), wasn't originally intended to be the Final Boss Villain, until they started work on Season 2. Once again, I think it's hard to say which is "better". But I do think it's fair to say that Belos benefitted from the longer-term planning. Whereas, I give the GF team a ton of credit for taking this character they'd established, but weren't sure how he would develop, and turning him into such a compelling villain.

You know this seems pretty accurate honestly Dana even mention that even without the shortening of the show she never was going to make the collector the main villian of the show and it was always going to be philip and I got to say they did him correctly he is menacing, never jokes around, also looks toward his own goal and manipulated an entire realm into thinking he was a messenger to the Titan, I know the Core did that as well but at least they kept their loyal memebers safe in their hive mind while Belos has corpses onto of corpses of Caleb's/Hunter's

Belos may be the most fascinating portrayal of a manipulator I've seen in fiction. He convinced Luz, a classic bubbly overly helpful hero, that she wasn't a good person, and was in fact, as bad as him. He raised Hunter and countless other grimwalkers to only value themselves according to their usefulness. He indoctrinated an entire culture to be fearful of their own natural abilities and traditions. He attempted genocide to justify his own prejudices and to convince himself him murdering his brother was justified. For a brief period, he even convinced the audience that he was nothing more than a tired, homesick man. Bill Cipher is immensely entertaining to watch. But Belos is the one who sticks in my head and makes me consider what it really means to be a villain.

I honestly think that Bill Cipher is the best final boss villain of the three. Belos aka Philip Whittebane definitely is a great villain due to the terrible deeds he did, including killing his own brother, how he continued to be stuck in his ways and was never open minded enough to consider that he was wrong, he stubbornly continued on his path even when he was on the brink of death, he killed or at least almost killed Luz, it took Luz until the final episode to actually defeat him, and he was so unlikable to everyone in the owl house cast that his death at the end was just so satisfying. The core is definitely a villain that needed more screen time, but it was the literal embodiment of the anthesis of Amphibia's theme of change. The core hosted Amphibia's greatest minds that refused to die and refused to change their way of life through conquering other worlds. The Core's most heinous act was taking over Marcy's body, and essentially making her the villain. Darcy definitely took the likable traits of Marcy, and twisted them into something evil. They even used psychological warfare to nearly defeat Sasha, who was redeeming herself. When the core was initially defeated, they tried to end all of Amphibia. Anne had to literally sacrifice her own life to finally defeat the core for good. The core worked as a villain because it represents what was wrong with Amphibia as a whole, but just needed more revelations on itself. Bill Cipher is the best because of how powerful he is, how he was a bigger threat, how he is admittedly insane, how much he's tied into his respective series, and how the characters of Gravity Falls really had to overcome their issues to defeat him (which is true for owl house and Amphibia too, but I think it was more profound in gravity falls).

In my opinion, worst to best, it's Belos, The Core, Bill Belos was very evil, manipulting an entire civilization for hundreds of years, killing people, killing his own brother, and then killing said brother's clone countless times. He is also strong, and could beat Luz and her friends in monster form. He also provided a light challenge for Luz with titan powers, which while still only a small challenge, still shows how strong he is. However, he was trying to do something he though was good, so he unfortunately isn't higher. The Core was also evil, manipulating Andrias and possibly other rulers as well. Unlike Belos, The Core knew it was in the wrong and still did it, a real villain. It was also prepared to stab Anne in the chest for her power, and destroy Amphibia just so it could win. However, without it's moon-self, it is a pretty weak bad guy, being defeated by a weakened Sasha who wasn't even in her stone-powered mode. Anyone with advanced fighting skills could take it down, and it needs a host for even this. Finally, Bill is first because he is truly twisted. Like The Core, he knows he is evil, and enjoys it. Shuffling a mans face, making a throne out of petrified people, mocking Dipper's dad, being prepared to kill the twins, and manipulating a large number of people. He is also an extremely powerful being, capable of destroying universes, or at the very least l, dimensions. What makes him better than The Core, though, is the reasoning behind his actions, which are none. He does what he does simply for entertainment.

Everyone does have their own opinions but for me, as much as I do love Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls and he does have the most memorable quotes. Heck, I would even go as far and say that he is the most quotable Disney villain ever! I would have to say Belos from The Owl House for a number of reasons. 1. He is actually a witch Hunter from the 1600s named Phillip Wittabane, which makes sense in a show about witches and very unique. 2. He is a such a threatening and menacing presence ever since he made his debut in Agony of a Witch. 3. His backstory is such an excellent one. 4. He would not hesitate to do harm to those that are in his ways and either physically or mentally break them. 5. He killed his own brother and cloned him and that clone and did again and again and again. 6. He is the main villain throughout the whole series and the Collector didn’t become the main antagonist and instead made the latter more of a tragic character. 7. He gets a very gruesome death.

The ting I like about Belos is that if your in a room with the Core or Bill, they will probably just kill you in a few seconds. But Belos tends to give an intimidating vibe and make you scared even when he is not attacking you. I also like his backstory and his reasoning because we know why he did all of this. For the Core we only know someone created this crazy gang on a computer planning to destroy other worlds. For Bill, we just know that he destroyed his old dimension and plans on destroying all the other galaxies. But for Belos, we know he used to be a human and wants to destroy the boiling isles because the witches there were mean to him. This is why I believe Belos is the best villain of these 3. Note: This is just an opinion, so you don't have to agree with me.

Nah, Bill wouldn’t. During weirdmaggedon Bill had Dipper, Mabel, Ley and Ford at his immediate disposal, (Excluding Ley who he had at the end) and it was shown that he COULD’VE killed either one of them with a snap of his fingers (Granted that he didn’t know about the barrier until after he captured Ford, showing that he wasn’t gonna kill ford, not het atleast), he could’ve killed Mabel immediately, instead he opted to put her in a bubble for his own entertainment, and he had Dipper trying to punch him. He coulda killed Dipper right then and there, but decided to throw dipper into a tree and send two Henchmaniac’s just so he could watch Dipper scramble in fear, he had the children in a cage near the end and the two pines infront of him, he had “Every threat to his power in one easy to destroy circle” and instead he opted to make them banners instead of killing them all on the spot.

The thing I don’t really see much people talking about is how the villains counter with the story in it of itself. Bill and bells really show the true core of how the show is. Like how bill had a huge mystery element as in his history in it of itself is a mystery the one eye’d triangle represents the Illuminati and all that stuff. And Belos is a deep rooted character who is very serious. These characters both show aspects of the show that they are from. Toh being a very somewhat serious show and gravity falls having a huge mystery element which may or may not have been left purposely left out for fans to theorize.

I still believe personally that bill cypher was the best villain. (I also haven't seen the other two shows and am basing my reasoning off of the facts stated in this video). The reason I think bill cypher is the best villain is because he doesn't really have a good reason, nor a general goal. While the other two villains are trying to accomplish something, bill cypher simply wants to have fun. He doesn't want power, nor does he want order and control. He want chaos and destruction. This is what makes him, in my opinion, the most terrifying and menacing option. With the other two options, they seem to have a limit. Once they accomplish their goals, they can stop with their reign of terror. Bill cypher on the other hand, never cared in the first place, and willing to do almost any, horrible, putrid, heignous act just to have fun. On top of this, he's virtually a god, as stated in the video. This makes him even more terrifying to me. With the other two, it was known what they could do to stop him, or the fact that they could be stopped at all. But with bill cypher, he is unbeatable. It adds to this level of dread you feel when faced with this indescribably powerful being, on top of knowing he doesn't give a shit about what he does as long as he's enjoying himself. Think back to when they were forming the circle in gravity falls to finally kill him. You feel this sense of pure horror and fear once you realize that the one chance you had, the one weakness that you could use, was ultimately useless. Put yourself the characters positions. Now, knowing you failed, this cosmic being stands before you, laughing at your failure. This giant, godly, pyramid triangle demon has won. It stares you in your eyes, as it tells you all the horrible things its going to do to your world, all the things its gonna do to you. Your friends have already been laid down, trapped in posters with faces of horror. In that moment, you'd be thinking, It's over for me. Theres simply nothing you can do to win. tldr, bill in my opinion was an unstoppable force of evil who was willing to kill, torture, destroy entire planets, and probably many other things for his own enjoyment. In my opinion, bill easily wins best villian

Fun fact, in the Book or Bill, he states that one of his powers is seeing through everything that has the shape of an eye, without limitations. That's right, without limits, that includes other universes. So that means that all those eyes you see in Amphibia and The Owl House that look pretty cool? Yeah, he's watching everything through them and probably laughing his ass off.

For me it depends on what kind of villain I'm looking for. I consider Bill and Belos equally effective, but for completely different reasons. Both are powerful and utilize deceit to make their way to power. Both are incredibly threatening but, again, for different reasons. Bill has insane reality-bending powers and is essentially an insane trickster god. Belos, alternatively, does not have godlike abilities but the way he oppresses and slowly corrupts is just horrifying. There's also the extreme shift in personality; Bill loves to laugh maniacally and give sassy one-liners. Belos is more subdued and eerie, perceptive and terrifyingly patient. It's chaotic "deals with the devil" vs manipulation tactics that wear on you. There's also the fact that Bill is very much tied to fiction as there's no fear of running into him in the real world, so you can sit back and enjoy his shenanigans despite it being terrible. Belos, however, is a haunting reminder of the villains throughout our actual history, making his every action cause your skin to crawl. Basically, if I want genuine (albeit graphic) fun and iconic scenes to go back to, Bill is my favorite. But if I want darker themes with complex undertones to analyze, Belos is my favorite. As for The Core, I'll admit I haven't really watched Amphibia, so I can't say much on that.

Belos for sure. Killed his own brother, and created tons of clones of his brother over a couple hundred years just to kill once they disobeyed. He was the only villain to start out a normal person but killed, tricked, and manipulated to the top just to control. He even cut his own ears to add to his disguise. he manipulated an entire population and destroyed his own body. all for the reason of trying to get back to earth and be a hero for killing every single witch. he even tricked the collector into helping him commit genocide, which was like an immortal powerful being. he possessed multiple people, slowly eating away at their bodies in the process. and out of the three villains here, was the only one that never made me laugh, and gave me chills. a human who wanted to be a hero, but basically lost his mind and destroyed himself. Also out of the three, was showed to have very long-lasting effects on the world, and the minds of his victims. he was able to make Luz hate herself and think she was just as evil after speaking face-to-face with her a couple times. 1. Unlike the other villains who were born with power, Belos used his own intelligence to work his way up to power and nearly won if not for divine intervention (Collector and Titan). He was at his lowest point two times and still managed to achieve power all the same. 2. I wouldn't call Bill Cypher a villain but an antagonist because he is just a towering interdimensional entity who treats humans similar to how humans treat insects and ants. 3. Andreas is a great villain but he is overshadowed by the Core who treats him as a lackey. Adding the Core as the main villain removes Andreas' authenticity as a villain.

Gravity Falls was great and Bill Cipher was very memorable. "Dreamscaperers" first aired July 12, 2013. That's nearly 10 years ago!! The fact that we still remember Gravity Falls after 10 years is testament to how good the show was. I think a lot of people tie their emotions and feelings for a chararcter to the show itself and when asked which is the best villain, may as well be asked ""Which is the best series?" That's where I think a show like "The Owl House" falls down. As a result of its unfair cancellation, the entire final series was reduced to 3 episodes, which (in my opinion) soured the finale. I personally think that the final episode of "The Owl House" was disappointing. It had too much to wrap up in 45 minutes and was derivative of other series. Luz dying and being resurrected was almost identical to Anne's death and resurrection. The only difference was that Luz got a powerup after resurrecting. Belos was a good villain, but I think Bill was better. He set the groundwork for all future villains to come. Don't forget, both Matt Braly and Dana Terrace had previously worked on Gravity Falls and both series were heavily inspired by it. Bill was the OG Villain that everyone still remembers. Trust me, no one remembers the villain of "Star vs. the Forces of Evil" for very good reasons!
@TJ-hg6op
@TJ-hg6op Жыл бұрын
I do think that the owl house ended its show pretty well for the short amount of time it got. And even though I love bill, I feel belos is probably still a better villain. He is much more real than the others. An evil triangle, a malevolent hivemind, and a bigoted idiot from the 1600s. While bill is known for manipulation, we really didn’t actually see much manipulation from him to the degree of stanford treating bill like his god, which we only heard about for very little time. Belos manipulated an entire civilization and made it convincing at that, also really, Belos got far more screen time than bill. Bill actually only starred in very few episodes, and only appeared in others as the background or subtle hints. There are a variety of things that help boost belos in comparison, but I still think they are relatively equal with belos just barely taking the edge. Also the core isn’t really even close to as good as the others, but still is a fine villain. Gravity falls (other than the wendy stuff and stan easily getting his memory back) is probably a better show than the Owl House, but only because owl house was forcibly cut short.

What I liked about the core is how slow its build up was. Because by the first temple we knew andrias was evil and thought he was thefinal villian. Than he called this giant eye thing his lord which sparked a wave of theories. Oh plus we didn’t even know its name. We decoded a prophecy in a book from the shows made up language to see blah blah blah to expell the night. So we named this thing the night until we had a proper name. The build up was so hype but its worse on rewatch

The way Stan and Ford defeated Bill was by luring Bill to where he is weak and eradicating that place and Bill with it. It took a combination of Ford's knowledge of the supernatural and Stan's skills as a con artist.

The reason I think Bill is the best villain is that he could have easily literally ERASE our protagonists FROM EXISTENCE, but he didn't do so just because he had great time watching their struggles

For me, if I had to rank the three I would put Bill at the Top, Belos in a close second, and the Core in last. My reason is that, unlike Belos, Bill is absolutely unsympathetic which to me is rather refreshing in this day and age. While the argument can be made that Belos is a sympathetic villain due to how he loved his brother but his fear of sorcery turned him into that which he sought to destroy. He is definitely one of the best sympathetic villains for me alongside Mr. Freeze and some incarnations of Megatron. Bill, on the other hand, has no such argument and Bill is often for me a more timeless figure. Bill serves as the embodiment of evil itself in Gravity Falls while the Core is the culmination of a collective need for survival. Belos is a truly fascinating character and can be considered a tragic character in someways as he ultimately brought about his own demise while he can be seen as a representation of the manifestations of history's greatest horrors, I think Bill does this in a way that is much more potent then Belos ever could. I believe that we often forget that there are people out there who simply do terrible things just because they can and to top it all off, they know it is wrong but they do it anyways. Where Belos is blinded by his own fears, Bill is not and revels in what he does similar to Frieza from Dragon Ball, the Joker from DC, the Green Goblin Marvel, and Homelander from the Boys. However, what can also make for a great villain is how you defeat them. For me, if your going to kill off a villain, I've felt that villains like Dio Brando, Light Yagami (the manga version of him that is), DCAU Darkseid, and TFP Megatron are gold standards for killing off villains as they were satisfying by either having their major flaw be the thing that undid them, the thing they're after is what brings them in, or something they didn't count on brought about their end in a satisfying way. In the case of Belos, this is where he is weakest as I believe that it wasn't as satisfying as it could have been and thus felt less like a moment of extreme catharsis and more of a moment where the audience goes "nice" in my opinion. The Core shares a similar problem as I felt that when its connection to Marcy was cut, the Core would react in a similar manner to a computer where its software is corrupted leading to losing its sanity and going on one final rampage to be put down. However, that's not to say it didn't accomplish that but it came close to it as it felt more satisfying to see Marcy freed. As for Bill, what made his so satisfying is how his demise was portrayed. As you stated, Bill's arrogance was his own downfall. However, that was just the start. Bill's erasure was made all the more satisfying because it both came full circle by having Stanley, Bill's first victim in the series that we see, is the one that puts him down. On top of that, the very method he uses to control a situation, making deals, is useless as the one being given the deal needs to be in a position of desperation or weakness to be able to possibly accept it. However, Bill, the guy who makes the deals is the one that's desperate while Stanley is not and thus rendering Bill's deals useless as he cannot make a deal where the one who is desperate is himself because he can't make a deal with himself and thus all he can do writhe in agony as his body contorts, shifts, and breaks apart due to the erasure before Stanley delivers the final blow that ends Bill's reign of terror for the time being. For me, what makes villains like Belos, the Core, and Bill stand out is what they get right and they all do that. Belos is a villain with an understandable but warped motivation to avenge what he believes is his brother's corruption by destroying the Boiling Isles and its inhabitants. The Core is a villain that is driven by only the need to survive while Bill causes trouble for the fun of it. They also have powers that make them extremely dangerous in some way or form and all have satisfying defeats to varying degrees. However, what makes Bill unique is that he is the most unsympathetic villain of these three, he is also the most terrifying given his personality, and unlike the other two, the most cathartic moment of his defeat is at the very end of his life. Where Belos and the Core's defeats were most cathartic when Luz pulled Belos out of the Titan's heart and Sasha severed the cable to free Marcy. Bill's defeat was most cathartic when he was erased from existence. For me, the most important things that make a good villain are these things, characterization, presence, and impact. For me, only Bill gets them all right every time. Belos always has an intimidating presence and interesting characterization but sometimes his cathartic moments are limited. While his impact on the series grows over time, I don't think it really takes center stage until after Luz and Lilith rescue Eda. The core is in a worse position as its presence and impact are limited by its lack of screentime which didn't let the Core establish itself as well as it could have. On top of that, its impact is only limited to the second and third seasons of Amphibia. However, Bill for me does all of this right as his characterization is instantly recognizable to the audience due to his personality and design, he carries an intimidating presence every time he is on screen, and his impact on the overall story is felt throughout the entire series and even after his "death" in the series finale. By accomplishing these three things consistently, Bill, to me, cements himself as the best "final boss" villain of the three.

For me, I don't even see Belos as sympathetic. He reminds me a lot of Frollo in the sense that he's a religious zealot who hated a group of people and wanted to murder them in cold blood. Both of them look after a boy, who they abuse and neglect. Belos just lacks the lusting for an underaged girl thing...which I'm not complaining about. I think he's pitable to a degree and his motive is understandable in a warped sense, but I never sided with him or even saw the good in him at any point. He's just a human monster. But, idk, that's just me. We can both agree that Bill is an amazing villain in his own right and his death was well done.

Belos saw himself as a legitimate hero who’s only committing horrible acts against a race of people is because he thinks that it’s the only way to keep everyone safe. His brother falling in love with a witch made him think that they will do the same to everyone else and he wanted to stop it,like the video said he can be compared to people who committed unspeakable things for the “greater good”. Ironically Belos became the thing he hated and was so blinded by his ego that he couldn’t see he’s the one who poses a major threat to everyone. Throughout history it’s mainly the ones who wishes to protect what they love turns out to be the biggest monster

I think Bill Cipher is the more entertaining and likable villain, while Belos is more terrifying with how similar he is to real-life narcissists (such as the infamous Adolf Hitler for example). I agree that out of the three final boss villains shown here, the Core is the least interesting. With Bill and Belos, there was buildup to them, and we got to know those two as Gravity Falls and The Owl House went on. The Core didn’t get nearly as much buildup, and for most of Amphibia, King Andrias was the villain to be focused on (not counting season one, but you get what I mean). It’s a lot like what happens in the original Star Wars trilogy, where Darth Vader is the villain most focused on, but the Emperor is the true main evil.

With one small exception. In the original Star Wars movies, Palpatine was technically pre-built to some extent. In A New Hope, the line is only heard and thrown around that there is some kind of emperor, in The Empire Strikes Back he is already set directly as a possible villain for later, and in Return of the Jedi he is already the main threat. It is not a situation in which you have 3 films and in the third they suddenly intervene him out of nowhere. And secondly, Palpatine is cool, because of course he is. I mean, he's played by Ian McDermitt, who is a god actor . That really helps .

it depends on what someone values as a good thing for a villain if you prefer threatening villains belos is your guy if you like a villain where half of their limited screen time was goofy stuff the core is your thing and if you like a healthy mix of both bill is the triangle for you I personally like bill the best but belos is a close second for me it’s just that tiny comedic kick is what gives bill the upper hand for me it makes him unpredictable which honestly makes him scarier because you don’t know when he’ll suddenly do something horrific after making a joke

Below is the best, his culture warped his mind so he didn’t know any better. He didn’t get to see the changes in society so he stayed ignorant. The boiling isles and its inhabitants seemed like pure evil to him so he tried to eliminate it all and get back home. In his eyes he’s a hero and everyone else is the villain. His character arc is the most creative and compelling I have ever seen in a Disney cartoon character. Bill just liked seeing chaos and hated order. The core is just a cocky being that knows he’s smart and want to advance but doesn’t care about anyone else. Out of them all, belos is the the best.

I would have to agree, Belos is by far the better villain. His character was just the most interesting, and realistic compared to the rest. In terms of power, he technically had more strength than the Core. (If they ever fought 1 vs 1) But, if we account for all of their armies and minions each Villain possessed: 1.) Bill Cypher 2.) Core or Belos (Coin Toss) - Each of their armies were good in their own ways. (1 possessed magic that could probably have gone toe-to-toe with the Core’s army of robots, and the other (The Core) had an army that didn’t need sleep, and could be remade.)
