You hurt my feelings. I always reply to your posts and this is the first time I disagree! Don't get me wrong, Leona's a 9/10 on headvoice but Whitney's command up there pushes me to 10/10 for her. Whitney's was just so agile and multidimensional with all the seasoning and color one could ever want. Leona's headvoice is exciting but I feel like it's linear and sorta of stuck in that "sweet" / "girly" zone, I'm not sure I agree with "strong" but to be fair Leona has a 'smaller' voice

I really love that classical singing keeps the larynx down and the voice fuller. All in all she clearly has much more power than I was aware of! She almost sounds Mezzo in that clip lol, I’ll always favor Whitney’s coloring and lack of nasality it just conveyed this unbeatable colorful tone for her.

I knew she was classically trained and she stated that classical music was the genre she sang initially, yet when I heard her singing "Ave Maria" live for the first time, I was truly in awe. I agree, she almost sounds like a Mezzo till you compare it to Mezzo-Sopranos in Opera. It sounds much more full that the upper register of most Sopranos in the industry and even many Mezzo-Sopranos. After Whitney who would you give the crown to as a resident Queen. Before hearing this aspect of Leona's Head Voice, would it have been Beyonce, Sohyang or someone else? (Unless it would have still been Leona after Whitney).

@@GarageStudio7 tough question but I’ll stab at it. Beyonce has so many factors that she can deploy as an asset to her headvoice that it’s still relatively unmatched in my view. Headvoice is one register but when you can blend in colors, vibrato and seamless transitions between mix and chest it’s hard to beat that. 2.) would be a singer named Morissette. She hasn’t blown up yet but she falls into that near perfect tonality for my tastes Toni Braxton also has a very “Whitney-esque “ tonality to her HV. All in all I have a bias against sopranos in headvoice. I like a fuller more “womanly” tone and many sopranos have a somewhat annoying adolescent tone in headvoice like Tori Kelly and Ariana. Leona Lewis and Lara Fabian so far are the only “obvious soprano” headvoices I can stand, the rest tend to be more midrange singers. How about you???

For me the queens are definitely Beyonce, Whitney and Sohyang. Whitney’s head voice in the 5th octave is one of kind. But Beyonce and Sohyang edge it out when it comes to the 6th octave notes. It’s difficult to rank them. Best falsetto goes for Mariah Carey obviously

I like both Whitney's and Beyonce's head voices. They both have that Operatic feel to them. I prefer Mariah over Leona. For some reason, I don't like Leona's head voice on its own. I prefer when she is singing in chest and goes into it. Maybe it's because of how her songs are set up. I don't listen to Billie Elish, so I was pleasantly surprised. I like Christina A., but a lot of her notes are too strained and sweaky for me.
