Vicki Thorne (singer and harmonica player) also has her own solo project called Thornbird which i'd recommend checking out if you loved her vocals :)

They are energetic and infectious live, a long standing Aussie band, i think they are on tour in Australia for the next few months, and they do visit remote areas, as they are a band that was born in a remote area, Albany Western Australia are their origins. Their big hit was "I'm in London still", a band their paid their dues in the Aussie Pubs.

Yes, they are currently on tour. I'm going to see them in Brissy on Thursday night. Can't wait.

Love the Waifs. Still gets a fairly regular play in my house. Love all this sort of music, bluegrass, folk, rockabilly, trad jazz, stride jazz, even country, all good.

I got turned on to the waifs back in 2003 when they played on one of the national mornings shows promoting their "Up All Night" album, I've been hooked ever since. I would suggest listening to Love Serenade from their 3rd album.

Waifs pronounce Wafes. A Waif is usually a Motherless child a Stray. They are an amazing band. 🌠🏴

GREAT band! I met Donna (1st singer) in the New Orleans Tower Records while browsing records in 2002. Darlin' Aussie accent asking me if Neil Young's, "Rust Never Sleeps", is good? 10 minutes later I'm watching them perform in the store. Completely smitten and blown away... FYI & FWIW As someone said below, the guitar player, Josh Cunningham, is a luthier and he builds all of their acoustic instruments. Try this one The Waifs - The Waitress kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXnah6V5p7l7ic0

There's a great story I heard them tell at a show. The girls' grandfather (also a harmonica player) got seriously ill and was hospitalized while the girls were learning to play. One of them decided to play for him for the first time- obviously a pretty emotional thing. She accidentally made a horrible noise partway through "Edelweiss" and her granddad looked at her with a straight face and broke the tension with "Well, you're not very bloody good yet, are ya?"

I'm glad you like The Waifs. They have a live double CD called "A Brief History" which is one of my favourite albums. It's a "best of" really and covers all their early material. It's available on youtube but without vision, unfortunately. I'd recommend a listen. If not as a reaction then in your own time,

Great performance.Reminds me of Emmylou Harris' Mystery Train, with a more bluesy feel.

I can definitely get into this it is quite similar to what Neil Young would play very bluesy and folksy totally love this style of music. I know I have heard of them but in all honesty I completely forgot about them. I know I have an album of their now I am going to look for it, thanks for the awesome reaction Casey this seriously brought back some good memories.

We don't see many women take up the harmonica. Vikki is one of the best. Male or female. Vikki & Donna are sisters, and formed the band back in '91 or '92 I think. They have a really comprehensive catalogue of performances. I remember a huge thing for the band, was when Bob Dylan took them on tour with him across America.

Playing the harmonica is not as hard as you think. It is all muscle memory. Once your sub conscious mind has the notes it is all automatic. Once you have that it is a very easy instrument to play. 6 months approx to get the needed muscle memory.
