I think it's best to hold off on the rat for as long as possible. once you're consistent with him it trivializes the game.

​@@NineHundredOne True, once you get good enough to beat the Rat every run, the game turns from "can I beat the Lich?" to "can I flawless the Lich?". But, to be fair, this game rewards skill a lot, so at some point when you get really good at dodging, item drops barely even matter and every run has a 99% chance of beating the Lich from the beginning. Gungeon is most likely the least RNG dependent roguelike.

@@samuelconnel2166 probably, and I do appreciate that greatly, but when there's a 0% chance of losing it gets kinda boring. I'm 3 deathless files in and I've had very few close calls in those. great game but not as infinitely replayable as something like isaac or ROR2 imo.
