@@parsnipappendectomy I wouldn't call it bad. I think it's just kind of a more mid version of chocolate and cheese. I think it was an odd choice to not have as many psychedelic tracks. But some songs like 'My Own Bear Hands' and 'Blue Balloon' are really fun. And spirit walker is overhated.

Yea if I remember correctly they found it in some old folk song book, but it only included the lyrics so they just remade the song based on the lyrics alone

Everyone suggests Quebec but i have other favorites over Quebec. Chocolate and Cheese might be the best in my opinion, but i also really love the lofi sludge of The Pod.

Ween is absolutely phenomenal. “Chocolate and Cheese”, “White Pepper”, “Quebec” are just a few if their incredible albums. Some of their earlier albums are very experimental, but these guys are a rabbit hole worth diving into. 👍🔥

I first heard Ween YEARS ago, after they made godWEENsatan (their first cd?). I’ve always loved them, but that CD has a special place in my heart. Albums like the Mollusk and Quebec make much more sense after listening to their early stuff. By the way, I found your channel 2 days ago with your reaction to Phish’s Rift and I’m all in. I gotta figure out what Twitch is and start hanging out there. Cheers!

It really does. The Blarney Stone also sounds like Mr Krabs. And the fact that the album has two random out of place country songs reminds me of Sandy, a squirrel from Texas living underwater. You can really tell how strong of an influence this album was for SpongeBob

@ absolutely. I mean I know the story of how the album inspired the creator but hadn’t thought about anything specific beyond the general concept/theme, as that’s how I remember it being described. These examples are really good.

@@christophermeyer3115 yea I don't think Stephen Hillenberg ever went into detail about how the album influenced SpongeBob specifically, so it's all just speculation, but SpongeBob definitely has The Mollusk written all over it. Even the album cover looks like one of those hyper realistic still frame gags from the show lol

@@isaiahromero9861 Stephen Hillenburg directly told ween themselves the eentire album inspired SpongeBob :). They posted it on their Facebook after he passed away, and I believe Stephen Hillenburg said so himself too back in the 2000s.

I promise you this is only the tip of the iceberg for Ween. Their collections of demos alone would rival any catalog of any band ever. Not sure if you can, but I would suggest reacting to their Live in Chicago video on YT. Other songs like Beacon Light, That man (from the flat land), Help Me scrape the mucus off my brain, I don't want it, Gabrielle, Transdermal celebration, Doctor Rock (live chicago), Big Jilm (Live in chicago) and so on are some you should check out.

I've heard this album a few times and I grown to appreciate it more though I still don't really like it, something finally clicked for me just now. Have you ever listened to the band Brand New? Especially the last album science fiction. There's a lot of moments in that record that made me tilt my head like "what?" I don't think they ever sited Ween as an influence, but it kind of makes sense now.

@walterooski they had a song "SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy" on the Spongebob movie soundtrack. Very prolific band that have a similar odd vibe to ween, really interesting production & experimental/psychedelic sound. Their most well-known album is Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
