Uncles from both sides of the family are mahrem to you. Uncle meaning the brother of your mother or father. The husband of your Aunt (sister of your mother or father) is a non-mahrem.

i just learned about double cousins - when you are male and you marry you brother's wife's sister, which you apparently can, your children have 25% same genes, just like you have with your aunt. But they can get married.

There is no ruling on double cousins. Your double cousins share 25% (on average) of their DNA with you, and you also share 25% with your aunt. Your mahram is someone who has close blood relations with you, and you share the same amount of DNA with your aunt, who again, is a mahram. There isn’t any ruling that I have exactly seen however, so I would like someone to inform me about this.

I think these days most communities do not considers marrying the children of first cousin and I am not saying it because of religion but perhaps culture... but back than Arabs didn't have any problem doing so where Ali ibn abi taleb gave his daughter to Omar ibn al khattaab and Abu bakr siddiq gave his daughter to rasulullah (saw), even rasulullah (saw) gave his daughters to the sons of abu lahab...

You can't marry to your step-mother, your stepmother is your father's wife or former wife, not real mother. Your stepmother and mother-in-law are your mothers by marriage. So, you can't marry her

Every woman is mahrem to another woman. Women usually need a male mahrem to travel abroad, though it may not be required. You should ask this question to an imam or scholar. Also, the son of your mother-in-law (unless he is your husband) is a non-mahrem, you should not travel with him without a male mahrem.

They will forever be related depending on one specific thing. You become 'mahram' through a direct blood relationship , through the act of being suckled and marriage (marriage MUST be consumated in order for her to become 'Mahram')... The case you have mentioned relates to marriage. 'Old' or 'young' makes no difference. She IS the grandmother of the 'old' man's children. Whether they are biological or not. Main reason for this is to ensure a solid family structure. Surah An-Nisa was revealed for this exact purpose!
