I lost my little brother on September 9th. A beautiful boy becoming a man. Unless you have lost someone senselessly, this won't make sense. When we can't change our circumstances, to reeducate and unite our people against this machine of poverty, oppression, and discrimination. When we can defend our people from the police and racist policies in this time. All Their blood is on all our hands. We killed little boys.

This movie didn't start anything, like early hip hop, it was a reflection of what was happening. I grew up in Brownsville during this time. Kids were being killed constantly, via drugs or violence. It was genocide and it scarred me for life. My friends and I went to see this in the movies when it came out. It's a documentary for us.

The caption is nonsense. It started no explosion of street gangs? Nixon's war on drug policy (which coincide with this movies creation) are what led to the massive poverty and social service stripping coupled with disproportionate "policing" in the cities that led to more gangs. This is not ancient history.
@egojames0077 жыл бұрын
Dude, as a housing project survivor, I was right there in the mid 70's to watch the explosion of street gangs in the LA-Compton area. This movie was a urban must see at the drive in, the movie theaters. Gangs increased after this movie. So kiss my ass.
@hopperthemarxist85337 жыл бұрын
yes well said --- the urban poverty and gang warfare was engineered on a systemic level. The broader root causes of gang warfare had nothing to do with the film, and everything to do with material and social conditions
