In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is on a shopping safari! He's hunting for the perfect white tee shirt. Keep in mind Aaron is 5'6" and 152 pounds. Ratings below are between 1 (bad) - 10 (good).
The Review
1. GAP ($11) - small fits pretty well (8), not the softest fabric but it's good (5), quality (8), and OVERALL (7.5)
2. J.Crew ($18) - medium fits larger than he likes, fabric is soft, construction is similar to GAP, it's a nice shirt but nothing super special, and OVERALL (6)
3. Banana Republic ($15) - more stretch than the other two, it's thinner at the neck (in terms of the band), you can tell it's a premium shirt, and OVERALL (9 -9.5)
4. Zara ($18) - the medium is super stretchy and super tight, not comfortable for Alpha, fit (5), fabric (4), value is okay, and OVERALL (5.5)
5. Topman ($10) - medium is roomier with a regular cut, fit and length are good (4), quality is not good (3.5), price (9), and OVERALL (6)

Alpha, if you do more like this, you should do a comparison of pre-wash versus post-wash. You may buy a shirt and love the fit, or not like it so much because it is larger, but post-wash may change whether you like or dislike it. Just a suggestion. Looking forward to this series!

Completely agree here. I have the absolute hardest time with shirts because I'm right between a small and medium, so post wash it can go either way whether I still like the shirt. Just bought some Gap shirts that fit perfectly prewash, but i'm afraid of what they'll be like post wash.

Great suggestion. Was thinking the very same thing. A part 1 and part 2 follow up sort of thing. That's key to making a good investment. It's so annoying when a shirt shrinks up too much or even becomes super loose after washing and wearing it a couple of times.

You should do a follow up after you've washed each one about 5 times. I've bought a lot of white Ts from BR and the Gap, and the collars always bacon out in 2 washings. Not so with 3/$10 Hanes "stay flat" Ts.

if you have it in your area, you should try Uniqlo. What makes this brand so special is that they pre wash there clothing to show you the actual quality of a clothing before you buy it. They also make pretty good clothing, some a bit over priced, but all around a good store. and your next item should be the classic Henley's. thanks!

thats perfect lighting.....you can have decent abs with a "gut" (slight pretude in belly) even while you have abs......even if your really lean and you just drank a decent sized water bottle where do you think that litre of water is going? Sitting right in your stomach for a bit. so you still see abs but your stomach also sticks out. The only time you won't have a gut is if your lean and haven't had a meal for 2-3 hours or more.

Personally, I go with American Eagle tees, not the ones in their physical stores though. It's the flexible tees that I find are pretty good quality. Their older henleys I bought a few years back are still looking like new and fit well.

I have the biggest issues with the gaps v necks after washes. They get ridiculously small and lose their initial shape like crazy . I have thrown away so many gap shirts because they'll literally last 1 or 2 washes . I now air dry all of the shirts I get . It's helps. Lot , but is so inconvenient

Mine may not be the best white T shirt but I think it could last me a long time. It's an Arizona shirt, 100% cotton but it's a soft cotton so it doesn't feel heavy or thick. Nice fit everywhere, slightly tight on the arms though. But I have yet to wash it so I hope things stay the same after several washes. And I apologize but I don't remember the price. :-(
