I saw an episode of say yes to the dress where a woman bought the dress but broke up with her fiancé before he final payment. They have a no return policy so basically she could abandon the dress and get no money back on what she paid or pay it off and store it u til she decided what to do. So years later she gets engaged and comes back to alterations with the dress not knowing if it would hold awful memories or if she would use it. She puts it on and she’s like “this is still my dress, that guy wasn’t the right man but this is still the right dress!”

@shadowjewel8 ай бұрын
@@katyb2793 You say that but that lace is top tier; it's finished edge lines up with the waist perfectly, the detail overlaps the front and back neckline of the main body of the dress perfectly too, there's the neck detail on top of that, and it all looks like one piece attached at the dress neckline and zipper. It looks high quality to me, too. Good luck finding this kind of lace overlay as a home sewer. Unless you are are able to make it yourself, you'd probably have to use this as inspiration to make something much more basic.

About 6 months later a man I'd liked for a while asked me out and 6 weeks laater we were engaged. Meanwhile the bridal shop closed down and a fashion shop opened in its place. Thry were selling off the wedding dresses on a rail at the back of the shop. My dress wasn't there. I tried on a few but didn't like any. The assistant asked what i really wanted so i told her I wanted the dress that had been in the window and she said it was in a box in the store room! This dress looks similar to my mums wedding dress which she made herself based on a picture she found in a magazine. Unfortunately I can't quite fit it into it. I'm a bit wider in the back and have a bigger chest than my mum. My parents married in 1981 as well. Fun fact. My parents had an argument while my mum was working on her dress and mum threw a cup of tea at dad and it splattered on the dress so she got married in a tea stained dress. They're still happily married 42 years later and still have dumb arguments. Coincidentally my sister spilled tea on her wedding dress too. So maybe it's a good omen?

I didn't know for sure who I would marry at that moment, I just wanted it to be in that dress! I think it was $500 something, back in the late 1980's. That is my wedding dress. I was married in June 1984. That is the dress I wore. A few years later I lent it to a friend of a friend who was getting married but they were too poor to have a nice wedding. They couldn't even afford rings. I thought it would be nice to lend my dress since it was just hanging in my closet. (dumb I know). When I asked for it back I was told that she had no idea where it was, she had never used it and so gotten rid of it. I have shed many tears over my lost dress as well as the cavalier attitude of the person who seemed so sincere in their desire to have a pretty wedding dress. When I stumbled across your video, I could scarcely believe my eyes. I have only a few snapshots of our wedding and none of them show the details of my dress. I used to wear it around the house and my husband and I really enjoyed that. I had begun to believe the dress was only in my imagination. Your video has brought many tears, both of joy and of sorrow. I have watched it over and over and over. When I showed your video to my husband he instantly recognized the dress and I was touched to see a few tears well up in his eyes also. We will celebrate our 40th anniversary in June and your video was a lovely, if sad, way to stir us up to pull out our small collection of snapshots of our long-ago wedding. I wanted you to know how much seeing my dress again, even if only on a small screen, has meant to me. Thank you. 💕 💞

This is more common than you think. I used to be a wedding seamstress, and we would get a few dresses a year that were WILDLY out of the bride's size. Obviously we'd ask them why, and be told by the bride that they had been bought them looooong before they had a groom. I always remember one in particular, because she had bought it in high school and was getting married 15 years later... unfortunately, she'd been tiny in high school, and was no so much anymore. We couldn't "let out" the dress even remotely what she needed and she stood in the dressing room and bawled for an hour. It was a rough afternoon for all of us.

@hannahg5479 Жыл бұрын
@@GG-py9vp She likely did-- but I think she was hoping we would have some magical solution to make the dress work. A lot of people seem to think you can just "stick a panel somewhere" to fix a too-small garment. Brides can be very weird about their dresses; they pack a lot of emotions and fantasies into them, and when their vision doesn't meet reality they take a real hit to their confidence.

I brought my dress in 2009. I was already engaged at the time but not getting married until the next year or so later. £150 from Tiffany's. Always wanted a dress from Tiffany's. One of the last 6 of that style. I got it with help in 2009 and got married in 2011 in it to the same person I was engaged to at the time. We are happily still married. Upside, I was wearing a dress that not every bride wore that year and under £200 with alterations done by a friend for free for the length and adding straps. If you see your dress, get it if you can. Had I waited a year, I would have missed my chance completely. Worth it.

It's really fun to watch someone that has a such rich history period let alone through clothes. I just love what you do and my daughter and I love to watch your videos and then go antiqueing. It's a whole thing with us. Anyways I'm going to stop rambling. Thanks for the amazing content. Taylor and Lillian are huge fans

Quick question is the brand the dress is from called Gunne Sax because my grandma has one that’s really similar. Also the dress is very beautiful.

Honestly, I am HERE for the new era of every woman having wedding dresses they love at their leisure when they are completely single. What a fun freaking way to live and a good way to remind yourself that only the RIGHT guy deserves to see you in that dress you love so dearly.

Did the same thing after a breakup loved my dress married the man of my dreams 20 years ago. Dress is long gone being used by my sister and then passed onto her friend who knows where it is now. It lived a great life like me!

I love this for her. The man was just a bridge to meeting the dress.

This is actually very similar to when i want my own wedding dress to be like, just with a minimal lace and tulle overlay on the skirt to make it a little more cottagecore. Id also probably make it a different colour, but keep it light. I love basing designs off historical clothes, so thank you for finally making me see a similar version to what i hope to make in the future for myself.
