i think you gotta do a video just like "Unorthidox tricks" like shit that might not even have names, i think its be a bigger project so save it to polish it out or whatever but yeah, like that thing people do when they scoop their front foot under the board and it does like a semi varial type flip (i have coined this trick as The Mole Flip) or like pogos stuff like that, i think itd be a cool ongoing type project OR jsut a long video on the matter either way id like that a lot. Another cool video idea would be you taking the special tricks in tony hawks pro skater, and see if oyu can find videos of them actually doing they're tricks. you could even do like a checklist type thing where itd be like "alright so muska and campbell's special tricks match their real life tricks, and like elisa and burnquest dont (just an example) Just some suggestions :) keep up the good work bro

+JaymzIsUS great ideas! I like them all. I'll make some notes and see what I can come up with! I thought about the special trick idea before, and I couldn't decide how to do it. As soon as you get to B-Ballin' and Grind and Barf, it won't really work anymore. I'll give it some thought

The history of the first switch stance tricks would be really cool. I know Salman Agah was one of the first guys to push switch stance skating but would be interesting to see the history more in depth.

Koston's first video part was in Next Generation, alongside Dan Peterka, which makes it extra weird that only Koston's name got attached to it. You're absolutely right-I think Peterka just missed out because he skipped out on pro skateboarding soon after. They were both doing lots of crooked variations in that video, as well as some of the other folks (It really should have been called a "Next Gen" grind or something, because it was a definite theme in that video). Before Next Generation, I think it was usually dismissed as a lazy or style-less nosegrind since most people didn't do them on purpose. I first saw the term "K-grind" in either Thrasher or Big Brother in 1993, in a caption for a crooked grind photo. It said something like "Why do we call it a K-grind? K is for Koston, duh".

I def remember them being called crooked grinds before K-grinds. I think Koston was on the cover of one of the mags doing one huge one down a big hubba and my friend showed me and said, "they call them Koston or K-grinds now".
@digits0017 жыл бұрын
In the trick tip series from the 90s with Eric Koston and Tony Hawk, Koston kind of addresses this. He says something like "some people call it a crooked grind, or a k grind, or a pointer grind" I swear he says something about Josh Beagle teaching him the trick. Unfortunately couldn't find that video on KZbin.
@ViniAndradeMusic7 жыл бұрын
so why would the trick been taught as a 'k' grind? crooKed? grind?

I remember asking if you could take a look into Crooked grinds (K-grinds) awhile back, so cool that you noticed my comment and decided to look deeper into it :D I always had a feeling Koston didn't invent it too, glad you shed more light on the matter. Love your videos, keep it up!

These videos are great! Very educational. It may not be your area, but a request from my side would be the "Indy grab". Indy grabs are only done backside, as far as I know, yet some people insist that it is possible to do a "frontside Indy grab".

Mike Carroll did a noseslide to crook at EMB in Questionable. Probably filmed in '91.

I was determined to learn this trick. Only because I thought it looked good with a kickflip into crooked. I practiced for HOURS. No joke, weeks. Finally got it. Then backside. Backside looked awsome and felt great to show off. I practiced by my self after everyone went home. Got up early at sun up just to try all day. I wouldn't dare try now. Not even on a childs rail lol.

I'm going by memory here but I vaguely remember him championing for pros to get enough money to live, not accepting an offer for just him to get paid more, then being black listed by the industry/beaten up by Micky Reyes. www.jenkemmag.com/home/2011/07/20/what-happened-to-danny-gonzalez/ I know Jeremy Wray was black listed for a few years thanks to Phelps too, though I don't remember the story behind that one.

Do you have any insight on overcrooks? I've heard that BS overcrooks exist, but not FS. I'm on the side that the trick exists in both variations, but I'm continually told otherwise.
@RadRatVideo8 жыл бұрын
I've heard that too.... kind of like Suski grinds. I don't know if there's really an official answer for that one way or another, but the safe thing to say is 'ollie over to crooks'.
@zenpigeon59448 жыл бұрын
Rad Rat Video Interesting. The way I've been corrected is that it's just a nosegrind, which makes no sense to me.
@ViniAndradeMusic7 жыл бұрын
I think they call it a fs nosegrind because it's actually easier to lock your trucks 'overcrooking' it. It's even easier to get off the trick as your back truck won't be hittin the ledge or rail if you don't put your weight all over your front leg. So calling it a overcrook looks like you're saying you're doing a harder trick than a nosegrind, but actually it easy isn't. That's why they call it just a simple nosegrind.

Nobody invented it, its a nose grind, people just started tweaking em on an angle more and more, its like saying who invented a shifty or something. It was just a steeze think back then and is now known as a krooked grind. Koston def purposly teaked em out like that and Dan Peterka but its all from skating double sided curbs doing noseblunts and noseslides and then grinding. Watch Julien Stranger in A Reason For Living. It all came from that type nose slide and noseblunt and bluntslide shit. I skated back then and doinf bluntslides you would lock a truck in too. This shit is too funny, all skaters did this stuff before it was even in video parts. Trust me
